  • Got a great citique on my Radio Oxford show jonks ago - - and was it by Nick Vince? I remember his name was Nick. Anyhoo, about Jerry Byrne & later Dr John??? got probs with recall, but believe it's the same man. if so, RIP. Great RNR. Thanks for uploading.

  • he left us one of the best rock and roll songs

  • Wonderful record timeless and having heard it thousands of time, it will never wear on me. God bless rock and roll. you gave me th best years of my life. NICK VINCE Southend Teds Rule OK

  • Mac Rebennack didn't play piano on this. It was a guy called Art Neville. Jerry did sing with Rebennack's band at one point, however.

  • He may be gone but this song will rock for all eternity.

  • My sincere sympathy to all of Jerry's family and loved ones.

I have admired this record so much since the first time I ever heard.

Hope that I can be worthy enough to meet him someday up there in Rock & Roll Heaven some day.

  • RIP

  • Gone : But what a legacy

  • God Bless Jerry Byrne!

     Rock on in Heaven.

  • Lights Out, but not for you Jerry, God Bless You.

  • I am saddened to hear of his passing. I have loved this all my life. At the risk of sounding like a git, his name and memory will live on. One of my favourite records ever; one of the greatest records ever!

  • It is with extreme saddness that I must tell you this. Jerry Byrne passed away Wednesday morning (4/7/10) after fighting a brave battle against his illnesses. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and fans. He was so loved and was a kind, loving and generous human being. The world has been dimmed by his loss.

  • @DonnaJAppel .Thank you for letting us know . The light out song is a fav of mine and used to bop to it in the early 80's it was good for attracting the girls. Even bought an original 45. Thank you and RIP Mr Byrne Regards from England

  • Bowser...Of course, this may not be pure 'billy, but give Mv his due: it's a damned lot nearer than most pap that fellow Brits of my(and his) age are told is rockabilly.

  • This was the first Rockabilly tune I ever bought in 1976 in Southend on sea UK, aged 13.

  • Mr Motivating whilst i commend your taste in music this aint rockabilly ..... but you are so young!! if you want !true rockabilly see "Charlie Feathers "

PS i did my training in Souffend ....in 1966 kid

  • E for Excitement exactly what is missing from todays shite music.

  • Hey do I detect another Rockin Jock

Us north of the border always put an "e" at the end of shit .... and this is the exact opposite of keech

  • What Rock N' Roll is!

  • The late 50's

A young boy growing up in East Texas and going

to sleep every night with WNOE and Long John Silver

    on the radio.

This is one of those tunes that made the music and radio

from that era so unbelivably exciting!

  • rock n roll at its best

    thanks from Bonnie Scotland

    hoots mon

  • Bought this when I was sixteen years old. Sigh!

  • quality boppin tune. hope he gets well soon . from England

  • Jerry is a good friend of mine. He has been having some serious medical problems of late and would enjoy cards from his fans. To send your regards you can contact Jerry Byrne at PO Box 431, Morgan City, LA 70381.

  • Sorry bellgardens53, he didn't. Dr John was Mac Rebennack who co-wrote and plays piano on this. You can see his name on the writing credits in the picture

  • Ok, I mixed it up then...anyway it's a real smoking rocker this one. Gooooood. All about what Rockn'Roll was meant to be. Thnx posting it!

  • He changed his name later to Dr John but that's another sory as they say.

  • Yes this is a real classic!!

  • Goodness! If there indeed is a faster and wilder version of this, one would probably wind up in some kind of traction!

    Man, this rocks!

  • Apparently there exists in 'The Vaults' an even faster and wilder take of this track which has not been 'officially' released. Does anyone have a recording of it they could put up? One of the finest records ever made. I never, ever, tire of hearing it even after 30-plus years. I remember getting a request for it played on the radio in 1978 when I was a boy...

  • Could you PLEASE post the flip side of this single? I believe it is "Honey Baby" as my brother had this record years ago and it is one of my favorite rockabilly memories.

  • thanks for putting this up, dood!!

  • God!! ave got this one in the attic couldnt dance to this like i used to

  • The perfect rock 'n' roll song
