I had a lesson in an R22 a week ago, they're really twitchy! Pretty easy though, if you can divide your concentration easily and do 3-4 different things at once.
At first , u may have to concentrate extremely hard, and think constantly to make corrections. However u will have to make these a reflex. Like when landing and hovering around the pedal work should become a reflex. My instructor learned me this and just not thinking too much about this really helps. Just remind to use a LOT of left pedal on landing flare or u go spinning ;)
R22s are very easy to fly, except in high winds. This maneuver is actually quite easy. This guy may be landing in his own back yard... from the looks of it.
OH YEAH....you are a pilot and you flight in r22 every day, didn't you?...maybe you have to shut-up and don't talk about things that you can't understand.r22 is one of the most difficult heli to fly.don't be arrogant and shut-up.
@blekoldshaflo2 when it comes down to it the fundamentals of flying a helicopter are.... the fundamentals of flying a helicopter. saying an R22 is one of the most difficult to fly is a silly statement. flying a helicopter is flying a helicopter. what it all really turns into once get past initial phases of training is systems management particularly from a military perspective. the mechanical act of flying becomes second nature pretty quickly regardless of type
Thats cool, hope I get that good...just passed all my written exams and radio licence hope to do my skills test in the next two weeks...63hrs on r22 so far.
thanks for watching.... keep on practicing on R22, because it is a good trainer for bigger helicopters, good luck for your exams and remember SAFETY FIRST!!!
Thanks for your reply! cooling down is really important, in the video herein posted I only close the throttle to cool down before shutting off.You can find the right update procedure to shut down in R22 Check List MT399-1 dated July 2005, where the first misunderstood step is "coll down RPM 70-75%" and COLL is refferd to COLLECTIVE and not COOL DOWN.
Many pilots understand in the wrong way this procedure.
I can assure you that before shutting off you have to cool down the R22 at idle position.
thanks for your reply, the helicopter is a Robinson R22 Beta II. Colour yellow. Have a nice day and visit our website "elighibli"(unfortunately we have not the english version yet, only italian)
anche se profano il joystick del r 22 risulta quasi piu' un manubrio se comparato a quello di altri elicotteri anche della stessa categoria

Phew, it would freak me out holding the cyclic like that. There's a reason it has a pistol grip with a PTT.
Nice landing though. Clearly he has already scouted for loose items in that junkyard.

is that how you hold the cyclic, rofl.
