Mika Hakkinen delt with that so well.. Schumacher got a load of shit after that by people saying he was just doing it for publicity but I never believed that, its one of the few times where Schumacher's emotions took over and I've always respected him for that

i am still wonder, looking at some today's driver how JV would perform but dont dream in color. Some of the boss of F1 just want robot to drive their? cars,,there is no place for feelings anymore.
i am sad for F1 and all those great engineer behind the scene.
He's so sad because he was right behind Senna when he crashed and won that race because he crashed and knows that he would have never surpassed Senna's wins if that horrible crash did not happen it's sad that it takes the death of a legend for a legend to be born
@22astonmartin Schumacher was obviously not expecting the comment, and not prepared for his own reaction. I don't believe, from what you've said, you understand how heartbroken these men were (and are) when one of their own is lost. Senna in particular.
Ayrton is my all time hero. Schumacher obviously felt emotion with it all, but that's when the interviewer needs to know when to stop. As fans of any sport, all you hope is the people you support care, when you see this, you know they care, you know when the emotion is real and when the questions have to stop
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
He deserves an Oscar for that display of emotion - so genuine he keeps his head covered for fear that someone may see his crocodile tears. Such an ass and will never be in the same league as Senna. I really cannot stand MS and his arrogance...and he's fucking hideous, to boot.
he just equaled the victories in numbers. In my point of view Schumacher always was some kind of overrated. In conclusion that Ferrari never had some kind of rivals during this time. The competition was fought between upgrading in car engineering which is also shown by the enormous difference those cars made up so far.
Senna, Schumi, Fangio....they are the best, stop debating who is number 1. can we be like them ? probably....if we do our best on everything we do maybe next time i will see your face on Youtube.
Senna an F1 legend Schumacher and never will match up to it can pass Senna's very easy victories in pro for 8 years with Schumacher the best F1 car until the rubinho won with this car! Senna best of the best
In Schumi days Senna got one title 1991. Schumi drove only a handfull of races in this year, because the real first/sesond driver of the Jordan team B. Gachot went to prison. They need a replacement..this was MS. 400 meters and his FIRST race (SPA) was over. This was the ELEVEN*s race in the season 1991. 1992 N. Mansell became worldchapion, 1993 A. Prost became worldchampion.1992 Senna was not even under the top three. Number two was R. Patrese, number three MS (team E. Jordan) !!!
The interviewer was the biggest acehole. He had NO control and respect. Behaved like a yellow press actor. What I read here about Ayrton Senna..I am speakless. Many people make comments here, who were a child or not even born when this happened. Perhaps it is better to engage in F1 deeper. MS and AS are/were not so diverse. On the track both were hard bones, They both are/were not gentle at all. Beside the track both made /make humanitarian aid without talking about it !!! Characters and legends
The start was not veeery nice too. J.J. Lehto and P. Lamy had a worse crash. One wheel got off and 9 viewers got hurt. M. Alboreto lost a wheel in the pit lane. Couple of mechanics got hurt. The whole weekend was F1 at his worst side. Nothing was funny about RM like I read this here couple of times. He was young, a rookie and complete helpless. Schumi is a hard bone, but this time he showed his real face.Mika RESPECT !!! He tried to handle this worst case in an absolute human beeing way.
I was sitting 1994 in front of the tv and looked the race. I look F1 since 1991 (since Schumi started) until these days (live races and tv races)... Two F1 drivers died at this F1 weekend. R. Ratzenberger in the qualifiying. A. Senna during the race. R. Barrichello had a horrifying crash in the free qualifiying session too, much much luck was on his side, he could have been the first one.
Schumacher will never be the greatest driver! Only Ayrton Senna is really THE BEST! Schumacher is 'electronic driver" who wins 94/95 with Briatore's cheats. Schumacher doesn't even come close to Senna
@deangelis777 why u people always forget about Fangio?? He had the highest winratio of any F1-driver, 5x world champion in an era with no aids, dangerous tracks and minor protection.
@rafedasi Senna, the absolute greatest ever! Schumi idolized Senna growing up and told him once that he wanted to be just like him. Of course, that would be an impossible feat. Even with all his titles (and obviously a MUCH longer career in an era where there was very little competition & he drove a nearly perfect car...), Schumacher doesn't even come close to Senna.
@22astonmartin "Schumacher doesn't even come close to Senna."
Senna made mistakes too, and even in schumi's early years with Benetton he rivaled Senna, and probably still would have gotten the 94/95 titles had senna not died.
@VColossalV yes they all made mistakes but Schumacher was a next gen driver who understood the electronics being used at the time and also had the better car, senna was struggling to get hes car tuned right at the time he was testing the car with the electronics which made him slower so he stopped using it, but then he would switch to no assists and struggle with the way the car was tuned, on the race he died hes car wasnt even completed the way he wanted it.
"can we have a break" too fucking right. How did the reporter expect that to continue that interview about the race when a man is in tears right beside him. Shameful.
you idiot why did you keep going on after he starts crying. you could have just said "obviously a very emotional situation for michael" instead of going on
@theMstanglover I'm a NASCAR fan but that doesn't mean i don't enjoy watching other motorsports. And why is NASCAR and motorsports underlined? can we make them official words. Help us Urban Dictionary!
hahaha!! I love the way the press conference unfolds! Schumacher cries and the reporters go to Mika. Then FOR A MYSTERY-REASON Mika sends them over to Ralf Schumacher!! hahaha! I think he was as moved as Schummi was!! :D
Im pretty sure if the interviewer had a choice he would have called for a break, however these interviews are live around the world in many countries and the interviewer would not have control over it, it would be a producer or someone behind the scenes pressing buttons who had control......
I do not believe that Schumacher cries because of Senna's death... he just cries just because he bit Senna's historical win record.... a dream for him if Senna alive... Senna was not one of the createst F1 pilots... he just was and still is in our mind as the GREATEST..!!!
I just watched ayrton senna's movie, and it is the first time I cried in front of the death of someone who died before I even was born. I'm 15 now, and Senna is by far my idol. RIP Senna, greatest driver of all times...
@kawasakimouse Then you have no idea what you're talking about and shall remain quiet when it comes to Racing. You're an ignorant fool. Senna, was by far the greatest driver ever, but Schumi comes close, and should be respected as the champion that he is. Not only does he have passion for the sport, but he respects and is passionate about the people he races again. Hence the reason it's hit him so hard when he was equal with Senna.
@FmMan33 i have deep respect for Senna, but dont forget he became to overwelmed of all fame. He risked his life too many times at the circuit. And about schumi, its my opinion. In my eyes he just a pathetic driver. For example: Driving behind a safety car and hit the brakes so that someone passes him (what isnt allowed in F1 incase u dont know). The one who passed him got disqualyfied. How can you screw somebody so hard. He doesnt have respect too others i guess that.So i dont shut my mouth for u
Here one can see that Schumacher is only human, and I think it's a powerful gesture that makes Mikka. I could never liked Hakkinen, but he has understanding for the situation of Michael, which shows her human side of both
Why ndo you write things like that ? Why are you trying to express your insignificant opinion, why are you trying to take dreams away from the people? Nobody cares about what you think anyway
@salmanfarruz : I was sitting 1994 in front of the tv and looked the race. I look F1 since 1991 (since Schumi started) until these days (live races and tv races... Two F1 drivers died at this F1 weekend. Rubens had a horrifying crash too, much much luck was on his side. The whole weekend was F1 at his worst side. Nothing was funny about RM like I read this here couple of times. He was young, a rookie and complete helpless. Schumi is a hard bone, but this time he showed his real face.
i´ve just watched "Senna" recently and found out what a great person he was.... so far i just knew a tiny little bit about his life.... now i´ve seen this video and almost began to cry...
you can see that schumacher knew the question before it was even asked..which means that he was dealing with it before it was asked. - i think Schumacher feels a great deal of contradicting emotions..everything he achieved in formula one (Championship/status) was because of Senna not being there..- i mean he would not have won anything ! if senna had lived...that is a strange thing to deal with...also seeing it happen right in front of you AND win that race where it happened. - its messed up !
"Yes it does mean a lot to me...Sorry" We forgive you Michael , All we , Ayrton's Senna fans we forgive you and we respect you , as a big sportsman and as one of the best drivers of all the time . Senna #1 .
@marco116d Nahhhhhh Williams of 1992 was the best wiliams, even tho they had that balance machine, Ayrton was a sick driver, dont look at the statistics, look how he raced, the man was amazing, and look at the era he raced in, his Mclaren Honda Mp4/4 low downforce with 1200 hp, and if schumacher is such a great driver why doesnt he win anymore? btw that Mercedes isnt that bad.
@josmdg I thought the interviewer was actually very good. He recognized Schui couldn't go on and moved on to the next guy. Schui obviously didn't want to end the interview or he would have walked out. Schui just tried to compose himself. A relentless interview would have kept at him to get a reaction.
I think Senna and MS had so many similarities in their abilities on track.
MS was definitly the best opponent Senna ever had to face.
And even now, that he became old and lost a lot of speed, he still can nearly completely compete with 26 years old Nico Rosberg (who is very talented as you can see in his pre-formula1-career), with 42!!
One have to imagine this, I remember Mansell at the same age didnt even fit in the cockpit lol
The really good ones, you always see them driving in rain ;-)
@StefanoCelentano I agree with you. Everyone is quick to say that Senna is the best and Schumacher is as great a Senna. But you see, they both raced in the same era and Schumacher was the one who gave Senna the run for his money. Back then rules were less safer and there was more freedom. Nowadays we're bounded by electronics, safer rules and so on, but Schumacher has proved, pound for pound, that he's possibly the best ever. Just look at his final race in the Ferrari, one of the best ever.
@rvind92g He never had a world champion as a team-mate Went on to have a much superior car than his peers in a Ferrari dominant era.Schu great for sure but Senna the greatest ever.Senna maximised inferior F1 cars' potential like no other. It took Schu TWELVE years to break senna's most poles record . Senna also holds the record for the most Monaco wins, (6), and as everyone knows Monaco is the ultimate test of driver skill and talent. Even Schu says Senna's the best.
@rvind92g Schumacher had a cheating car in 1994, and Senna knew it - it made no sense that the greatest driver ever was being beaten by a relatively new driver. Senna's Williams car was virtually impossible to drive - it was shaky and highly unstable. Senna still managed to put that godawful car on pole for the first three races of the 1994 season. Senna was second for the Championship in 1993 - he would have won it if Prost hadn't blocked him from Williams (it had the best car then).
@rvind92g ...Schumacher was fourth for the Championship in 1993. It's a complete joke to say he is as good as Senna. Read up on your F1 history a bit - Senna never would have dreamed of cheating because he didn't have to: winners are confident in their innate talents - only losers cheat. Schumacher never could have won as many world championships if Senna had lived. Senna was voted the best F1 pilot ever in a drivers' poll a few years ago - even Schumacher admits that Senna was the best!
@22astonmartin You are acting as though no one will surpass Senna as the greatest ever driver. He's the best there was, but saying had he lived Schumacher wouldn't have won many a times? Have you forgotten the rules back then were different? If Senna did one of his blocks today, he would be given a penalty. And you say Senna never cheated, what about Japan 1990? When he rammed Alain Prost off the track? I'm not hating Senna here, I love him in fact, but you putting down others is just premature.
@rvind92g As far as I remember, that was not cheating, if it was, he would have certainly been penalized, but he wasn't. The FIA president was French and he didn't like Senna and he liked Prost. It's the same guy that took Senna's championship the year before - very debatable one -, if he had the chance he would have penalized Senna.
In that race, Senna took the gap of the inner line and Prost tried to block and then they collided, that was not cheating, he had the line.
@rvind92g I think that it's a bit stupid to argue that the rules were different. I mean, when you use IF you have to try to think about it more deeply and I'm certain that Senna would find another way to show his skills in today's F1.
And somebody could counter-argue you by saying that back in the days, there was no electronic assistance like you have today, when the car makes more difference than the pilot and that's why F1 became a bit boring.
@rvind92g I'm not trying to defend Senna blindly, I don't even care if he cheated or not, I'm not even defending the other guy - because I think he is idealizing things a bit.
My only point is that I don't think that your argument to balance things was there. Because rules don't change the fact that he was very skilled and talented, not being able to block wouldn't make a difference. And that was not cheating. What happened in the backstage with him before was cheating.
Michael Schumacher had such an aggressive style of driving and he was just so damn fast. In the 94 season when they changed rules and allowed refueling, MS invented what later became his driving style: Extremly agressive sprints, 20 or more laps as it was a qualifing. In so many races he had one or two stops more then the rest. When he went to Ferrari, they were nothing but a joke. And already in 97 he nearly won the CC in a car that was so much worse then the Williams!
Having watched it again just now, Schumacher was behind Senna at Imola in 1994 when it all went pear shaped. Hakkinen was on the podium in '94 at Imola for the restarted race, and and was Sennas teammate in 1993. Add in that the marshall was killed in the pileup at the 2nd chicane and this is a very emotion charged interview. The moderater for the interview I hope was spoken to very very sternly.
@wandactes estas tan...... no mames no es por eso wee es porque el mismo schumacher lo vio morir el gano la misma competencia en la que senna murio!!!!!!
the interviewers does feel sad but because that its their job to interview them, and they also experienced many other situations, i think the interviewers tried whats best for them and the job.
This shows Schumacher cared and wasn't a cold SoB that only wanted to win, unlike what the press says. Mika and him were the last gentleman in F1. All we have today is just a bunch of robots that only cared about points and kers and drs and shit like that
@NOXXism you're forgetting about Hamilton & Webber. But Yeah i agree with you,DRS is a bit of a silly gadget & Vettel is a little Terminator, who cares about statistics,Remember in India when his Race Engineer said he equalled Senna's record of Pole Positions in Quali,No emotion at his just 'Yes Yes Yes' & his little praise to Red Bull.
The reason of F1 died!! It's bernie ecclestone!! He's killing this sport!!
RIP TO ALL OF THIS MOTORSPORT'S WARRIORS WHO DIED IN RACE...
WE'LL NEVER FORGET THEM... NOW THEY'RE LEGENDS...
HI to all of fans of motorsports racing!! See you on tracks!! ;-)

I do not believe that Schumacher cries because of Senna's death... he just cries just because he bit Senna's historical win record.... a dream for him if Senna alive... Senna was not one of the createst F1 pilots... he just was and still is in our mind as the GREATEST..!!!

My opinion is that schumi is a bad driver
kawasakimouse 1 month ago
@kawasakimouse Then you have no idea what you're talking about and shall remain quiet when it comes to Racing. You're an ignorant fool. Senna, was by far the greatest driver ever, but Schumi comes close, and should be respected as the champion that he is. Not only does he have passion for the sport, but he respects and is passionate about the people he races again. Hence the reason it's hit him so hard when he was equal with Senna.
Massive respect for him..
Now, shut your ignorant mouth. Cunt
FmMan33 1 month ago

Reporter: Hey what about equaling the record of a legend you watched crash and die before your very eyes.
Good choice of questioning.
RIP Senna! True legend. Shame you couldn't grow up and coach Bruno to be as good as you. Oh how F1 would probably be so much different right now.

Schumi is a hard bone, but this time he showed his real face.

sirmikeypikey 2 months ago
you can see that schumacher knew the question before it was even asked..which means that he was dealing with it before it was asked.

StefanoCelentano 2 months ago 3
@StefanoCelentano nice comments man.. very interesting
opreanu 2 months ago
@StefanoCelentano I agree with you. Everyone is quick to say that Senna is the best and Schumacher is as great a Senna. But you see, they both raced in the same era and Schumacher was the one who gave Senna the run for his money. Back then rules were less safer and there was more freedom. Nowadays we're bounded by electronics, safer rules and so on, but Schumacher has proved, pound for pound, that he's possibly the best ever. Just look at his final race in the Ferrari, one of the best ever.
rvind92g 2 months ago 7
@rvind92g He never had a world champion as a team-mate Went on to have a much superior car than his peers in a Ferrari dominant era.Schu great for sure but Senna the greatest ever.Senna maximised inferior F1 cars' potential like no other. It took Schu TWELVE years to break senna's most poles record . Senna also holds the record for the most Monaco wins, (6), and as everyone knows Monaco is the ultimate test of driver skill and talent. Even Schu says Senna's the best.
thehitchrules 2 months ago
@rvind92g Schumacher had a cheating car in 1994, and Senna knew it - it made no sense that the greatest driver ever was being beaten by a relatively new driver. Senna's Williams car was virtually impossible to drive - it was shaky and highly unstable. Senna still managed to put that godawful car on pole for the first three races of the 1994 season. Senna was second for the Championship in 1993 - he would have won it if Prost hadn't blocked him from Williams (it had the best car then).
22astonmartin 2 months ago
@rvind92g ...Schumacher was fourth for the Championship in 1993. It's a complete joke to say he is as good as Senna. Read up on your F1 history a bit - Senna never would have dreamed of cheating because he didn't have to: winners are confident in their innate talents - only losers cheat. Schumacher never could have won as many world championships if Senna had lived. Senna was voted the best F1 pilot ever in a drivers' poll a few years ago - even Schumacher admits that Senna was the best!
22astonmartin 2 months ago
@22astonmartin You are acting as though no one will surpass Senna as the greatest ever driver. He's the best there was, but saying had he lived Schumacher wouldn't have won many a times? Have you forgotten the rules back then were different? If Senna did one of his blocks today, he would be given a penalty. And you say Senna never cheated, what about Japan 1990? When he rammed Alain Prost off the track? I'm not hating Senna here, I love him in fact, but you putting down others is just premature.

iNONSENSE 2 months ago
@rvind92g As far as I remember, that was not cheating, if it was, he would have certainly been penalized, but he wasn't. The FIA president was French and he didn't like Senna and he liked Prost. It's the same guy that took Senna's championship the year before - very debatable one -, if he had the chance he would have penalized Senna.
In that race, Senna took the gap of the inner line and Prost tried to block and then they collided, that was not cheating, he had the line.
iNONSENSE 2 months ago
@rvind92g I think that it's a bit stupid to argue that the rules were different. I mean, when you use IF you have to try to think about it more deeply and I'm certain that Senna would find another way to show his skills in today's F1.
And somebody could counter-argue you by saying that back in the days, there was no electronic assistance like you have today, when the car makes more difference than the pilot and that's why F1 became a bit boring.
iNONSENSE 2 months ago
@rvind92g I'm not trying to defend Senna blindly, I don't even care if he cheated or not, I'm not even defending the other guy - because I think he is idealizing things a bit.
My only point is that I don't think that your argument to balance things was there. Because rules don't change the fact that he was very skilled and talented, not being able to block wouldn't make a difference. And that was not cheating. What happened in the backstage with him before was cheating.
iNONSENSE 2 months ago
I still remember the 90s:
Michael Schumacher had such an aggressive style of driving and he was just so damn fast. In the 94 season when they changed rules and allowed refueling, MS invented what later became his driving style: Extremly agressive sprints, 20 or more laps as it was a qualifing. In so many races he had one or two stops more then the rest. When he went to Ferrari, they were nothing but a joke. And already in 97 he nearly won the CC in a car that was so much worse then the Williams!
StefanoCelentano 2 months ago 4
Having watched it again just now, Schumacher was behind Senna at Imola in 1994 when it all went pear shaped. Hakkinen was on the podium in '94 at Imola for the restarted race, and and was Sennas teammate in 1993. Add in that the marshall was killed in the pileup at the 2nd chicane and this is a very emotion charged interview. The moderater for the interview I hope was spoken to very very sternly.
