I was there as well a good gig. one thing that sticks out in my head was the first band called skafish were the lead sing came on stage dressed in white with pom poms , and ending up getting a cut on his head . it only got better from then on
Holy Shit, Sector 27!!!!!!! I remember these guys when they played at MY FATHER'S PLACE in Roslyn, L.I. N.Y. back in the late 70s , early 80s. This song sounds just as fresh today as it did back then, F------ amazing! where are they now?
Tom, thanks to youtube (and, off course, thank to your great tallent) I discover more and more things that you've done over the years, and I have to tell you - I love every time I go into that world that you've created with your music.
I hope you still play your white Fender Precision Bass, because it looks like Leo Fender invented the Presicion bass just for you, and, also, you play the bass like a bass should be played.
Gayness is not the issue here at all. This band was amazing, way ahead of their time in their own very special, individual way. Invitation and Not ready remain as some of my own personal most important post punk moments. If anybody has a clip of anything by Sector 27 please post it, I'd love to see it.
Lol, Stevie is my guitar teacher and i promise he does not look like that anyomre (luckily) and unfortunately his 'manly pink guitar' and his Les Paul were stolen. That must have been a fun day
I love YouTube. I just left a comment on another TRB video about Sector 27, and then I find this. Tom, we saw you and Sector 27 back in the day, and I can remember saying "man, this new band is YOUNG!" (We're about your age.) Watching the video now ... well, everyone looks young :-).
@bothways - as a hetero male I can proudly state you specificly shifted entirely, back in 78 and 79, my attitude and understanding of gays, man, you are, and have been, a genuine inspiration to many of the non homophobe hetero blokes my age all around the world !! Tom Robinson - I love and admire you, thanks.
@bothways Funny how the perception of passing of time alters the older you get. It baffles me and I will never get my head around it. My memories of 34 years ago when I was 15 years old are as clear as when the memories were only a few months old, yet the last 30 years have gone so fast with the last 10 seemingly gone in the blink of an eye. Yet the 1970s which began with me being 7 years old and ending for me aged 18, seem to have lasted forever compared to the last 10 years, Lol
Great band. Funny thing, this record was promoted like the second coming when it came out (early eighties), and now I can't buy it anywhere. Took months to find it on download. Worth the trouble.
anyone else experiencing difficulty posting on this or any other of the splendid 'bothways' offerings . . . ?

Haha :( My friends and I would sing this before jumping off the roof on to a mattress when we would get drunk in like 9th grade.

GREAT stuff and Robinson's voice is right up there with Bowie's! (both those talented fellows are my musical heroes)

We were a little freaked out to go see a gay band play, but as Tony B put it "Do people flock to see a hetro band?" Detroit 1981 Bookies.

Saw Sector 27 at Bookies in Detroit, 1981..30 people maz were there - it was a great show..loved the pink guitar. so manly.

Would love to find out where you got it (or a hint in which direction to look). I have been looking for a good long while too!

jo burt is a phenomenal bass player, one of new wave's best. his work on "can't keep away" lingers in the mind. unjustly neglected band.
