  • if there was a video on how to play like les paul, i'd pay big money for it! i could use some of that pin quick as well :D

  • this amazes me. he plays the guitar like it is simply an extension of his hands. this is the first time i have seen the great Les Paul play, and up until now have heard a few songs, heard much about the Les Paul guitar. i am a huge fan now of him and Mary-they are darling and oh so cool.

  • They're so cute, I know that sounds weird coming from a guy but doesn't every dude want a wife that he could jam with?

  • this is art , today they need lasers ,lighs , a zillion watts for nothing. where is the talent ?!

  • simply a legend

  • WHOA!

  • 1:51 - 1:54 made me laugh.

  • @almightyseancore lmaoooo it is funny

  • the electric guitar was first produced by Fender...Les Paul invented the solid body electric guitar

  • well that's just wrong.

the telecaster (originally broadcaster) was the first commercially available electric guitar, designed by leo fender. les helped design the gibson solid body set neck electric guitar, which was the les paul, two years after the telecaster.

  • This is also posted as episode 6 of 10.

  • Les Paul is one of the greatest guitarists ever. Every imitator should realize, however, that his ultrasonic speed was acquired by doubling the tape speed at the time of playback, hence the Mickey Mouse sound if his guitar. Still I have a problem following him even at half speed, so god bless him!

  • thats really great to know those facts,,,,and just watching his finger speed,,,u can sure see he is working that neck pretty damn fast... wouldnt it be great to have one his first guitar's. my friend had one in the 60's,,,he called it a "black beauty"..is that a common, name?,of did he just call it that.

  • common name, those les paul customs are refered name black beauty

  • THATS WHAT I FIGURED...and i was wanted confirm from a nice person...thx....he was obviously an american genius put here to Rock our socks offffff... i dont think he invented the electric guitar...did he? .b4 i think it was just jazz guitars,,,hollow body?

  • The Les Paul Custom "Black Beauty" was introduced in 1954. What he's playing in this 1953 video is the prototype. You can see him with the finished product in the "World Is Waiting" video. Note the difference in the pickup config. I am lucky enough to own an original 1959 LP Custom and I tell you what.. there is no other guitar on the planet that comes close, except maybe another pre-60 Les Paul. I also have one of the new Gibson VOS reissues.. hahaha ya right. Very pretty but NOT the same.

  • 1966 my friend w/ his beauty,,& two friends all 14 entered a national battle of the bands against all the best bands in the USA. they all played hard core.but my buddies did the simplest song,,and they WON. Pepsi gave them ton's of Fender amps and tele's. and $1000. he had 20 incredible guitar's when he fuxin died at age 41.of a heart attack. the song they did was Baby Elephant Walk...but it was his lead guitar playing that blew everyones mind.

you can't believe how much i miss John Welch.

  • Yes, the series had TWO national sponsors in syndication: Lambert Pharmacal's "Listerine", and Richard Hudnut's hair and beauty products [including "Pin-Quick"]. As I've mentioned, the five minute format allowed this to be seen on TV anywhere, at ANY time- early morning through late night...

  • Thanx for posting this

  • Les, Incredible guitar player as well as a great man and innovative musician.

And Mary, she had a beautiful voice!

  • I'll comment. Legends both of them. Les is my favorite guitarist. He should be known for his playing and him and mary's songs, as much as he's know for his signature guitar. May Les go on for as long as he can.

  • Can't believe no one has commented on this great twosome since it was posted. Les Paul continues to be one of the most innovative in the business, and is still going strong at about 96. All of today's rock stars owe him much. Les and Mary had many, many hits during the 1950's. Really good sounds.
