Exactly. I agree with that stance a lot more. I actually saw Common in concert here at Notre Dame last year and I was very pleased to see that his rap treated a lot of contemporary political issues. THAT is what rap was made to do. I was simply taking issue with his choices of "good rap,"  the commercialized, sold-out garbage that abandoned its roots. Hell, even Public Enemy occasionally had a message - thats more than most rock and roll does anymore.
