Great writer? Indeed. A total grasp on reality? Hardly. The hardest part for me to comprehend is that he was an image of loose fascism. What he wanted was a drug-induced nation of free will and fantasy. He wasn't a human being as much as he was a walking drug experimentation factory. If we all lived like him and believed in complete modern liberalism than we would no longer have the U.S.A., but rather complete chaos controlled by the hero of the moment. An interesting concept, but not realistic.
