Could some one help me with the name of a tune by pharoah, it begins with Egyptian style music converting in to a more jazzy tune then it ends with this really deep double bass any ideas?
@drummerman558 Thank you for the recommendations, but no these are not the tune I had listed. I herd it on KCRW Los Angeles, about 8 years ago it was the ONLY time I ever herd this tune from Pharoah maybe it was one of those rarities hopefully one day I can find it again
Perhaps Sun in Aquarius? Starts with about 12 minutes of (apparently) loosely organized noise, breaks into a more structured jazz tune for a while, double bass break for a while, ends with noise (pardon if I'm not using the correct term).
@thebroisland Hey thank you for the recommendation, this is not the song I herd I remember clearly starting with Egyptian like soft music converting into more jazzy tunes with a deep deep double bass on the last 2 minutes or so and finalizing with a solo double bass if it rings a bell let me know thank you for your help cheers
Funny about Pharaoh Sanders, I hated him with John Coltrane. His boring, monotonic screeching ruined a lot of later period Coltrane for me, but I really like, even love, his solo work.
How come this never won a Grammy - or never gets played on the radio? It seems in this country we have a taste for pablum and artists like this offer up a gourmet feast. Classic and beautiful.
I have listened to Creator over and over and I never tire from listening. The first time was in the South of France, over 35 yrs. ago. Geographically, I so close to Africa, just over the other side of the Med. But Pharoah took my spirit there, to a time of peace and joy, and before the time of chaos. Thanks man and thanks some more.
how is it that the first part of this video has 14K views but the second and third only have under 3000?
how could anybody have anything better to do than listen to this whole song? (actually its less of a song and more of a poetic, expressive epic that rivals homer's odyssey)
In San Francisco, late night, walking along with my girl friend looking for a bagel shop. Saw Pharoah Sanders standing outside in the chill night air. Told him how much I loved this album. He invited us in and we got to sit right under the stage while they played ALL of Karma, seemed like over an hour. Later married the girl, but later got divorced. Still love this song. Best jazz piece ever, even more than Coltrane or Miles.
@hoytchristmas Aside from the divorce part, but damn, that's awesome. You met one of the greatest jazzmen in the world, and he was even friendly enough to invite you in. Now that has to be a good memory.

@jw22345 I like to think that the first part overwhelmed them so much that they exploded from sheer musical bliss.

Not many comments on this one, huh? This is music that most people don't understand. But I love it!
