@ArcheryGuy510 hey.. there's a firmware update from Apple that fixes the problem.. The only thing is that you need to make sure that it stays cool when you are updating.. otherwise you might do damage to the Logic board.. it's probly best to get apple to do it.. so it's their problem if it breaks
I have the same flicker too, but mostly with the lowest brightness. Inverter board and its cables are in the change list, though wouldn't fix it myself 'cause it's pain in the ass to dismantle whole mb... >:/
I got my mac book pro in dec 2007...feb 2008 needed a new logic board...may 2009 the flickering has started. I reinstalled 10.4.11 (total delete & install)..its better now but still flickers a little..hope it's not the logic board (bored)
I had this problem. Resolved without changing inverter board. It seems my flicker was caused by a replacement HDD I bought (320GB samsung model). At first it was ok, but after a week or so it started to flicker like hell - seems there are some problems with HDD power managment. Either way, you can check if this solution applies to you: remove your HDD, plug it in a SATA>USB interface and boot your mac from HDD attached to USB port (by holding Alt key at start up).
mine is 3 weeks out of warranty and just started to do this...
bummer........ Seems every mac I buy has issues they try to not take care of. At least this might be easier to fix than the main boards I went thru in my Ibook.
It seems to me like apple doesn't quite know what to do about this common problem. My macbook had the same problem so I brought it to an apple store las spring and it was sent back to me with a replaced hard drive. It was fine for a while but the annoying flashing activity has returned. it seems a bit fishy that videos like this have been disappearing on youtube and that apple has locked the forums related to flashing screens...hmm...
This is SO annoying, I got a black macbook in march of 2007.. I noticed it in the summer, got the inverter board replaced under warrenty. And it started doing it again. Sometimes it flickers, other times the screen blacks out completely on the left side... I have no idea whats wrong, it's driving me nuts. I hope one day my suffering will be over.
Just call apple and they will take care of it. I have four in my office, 2 of which were purchases from different sources. Instead of taking the time to upload this video, call apple and get a new perfect macbook. I am sick of people trying to stain a great product. And by the way I don't work for Apple, I am an engineer and I have been a windows fan until I realized what I have been missing in OS X
or maybe this video is up to help confirm peoples beliefs that the problem they are having is common, similar and not just their eyesight etc. So instead of writing what you did, why don't you spend your time having sex with all of your lovely 'unstained' ahem laptops...
Probably just had a batch of bad VDUs. If it ever goes completey goes out and has no backlight in the future then it's definately that. They probably use their own special inverter board but in general, if the solder isn't the best on it, it does that. I've just reflowed VDUs at the main capacitors, fuses, and coil and it fixes PC laptop flickering.
That really doesn't sound right. It's probably just a defect on the 2006 laptops. I think that the screen should be replaced for free even if the owner hasn't purchased applecare (apple's fault, not the owner's). They're just too cheap to do it though.
thats not backlit backlits ur kybord

If your screen doesn't flicker when booting from USB, it is a faulty HDD.

I have a late 2007 laptop and haven't had that problem (yet). Does anyone know if that's happened on late 2007 models?

Same problem. I had it once fixed for free by Apple. Now, again 6 months later. I have no idea what causes this damn problem but it keeps popping up.

Had the same problem with my studio display. Turned out to be the backlight power supply in the monitor. Fixed it myself!
Go to any mac forum and you can find parts.

Bzzt, wrong. Ambient light sensor is only on the MacBook Pro.
InakaBoy 5 years ago
it is supposed to be a feature, not an issue: it tries to adjust the brightness and contrast according to the surrounding light.
