My dad was a 1912 model and was raised in Iowa. He told me they used to plow 25 miles of field a day with horses. I asked him how he knew it was 25 miles and he said you knew how long the field was and how many times you went back and forth, it was pretty easy math.
Another thing he commented on was that he was glad when the tractor came along because of the way people treated their horses. They'd work them to death.
I dont agree with your theory on the concrete pull ,but they are your horses so be it .Otherwise the whole clip was an excellent way to handle and work your animals , GOOD JOB ! Thumbs up !
@dodgediesel441 If you can even get it , I'm ridden my lawn mower and doing away with my auto , no tags ,no insurance,no repairs,No nothing and I can mow my lawn when I get back from shopping !
Pulling those concrete is no different than when i work my legs at the gym on back squats or a leg press or leg extensions. I'ts actually great to build muscle and have the body work as a whole. Short burst's of intense effort is great to do! Gets your blood pumping releases growth hormone naturally. Also staying in shape protects against injury during every day life and activity's. I just hope they don't have to plow alot of land.
I can understand the farm work...but the sled pull as though they are diesel dragsters?? Why risk your investment? They could tear muscles/ligaments in their legs and now you ruined your horses for good.
clearly be cheeper to have a 40-80 hp tractor to power the baler even a 1970/80 vintage one than horses/mules and an engine. The emissions would also be less than that engine and 6 farting animals. And no car tractor but engine topper and chainsaw WTF

I'm sorry I don't even know what I'm talking about , you treat your team well , I've seen a Youtube where men tried to get their team to pull a 5000lb log without a log arch , that I didn't like , God bless you and your team , your youtube was one of the most wonderful things I've ever seen in my life , Thank You , And may you and yours have a wonderful Holiday season , Peace
@sky4you2b Sorry you feel that way. This is a brother and sister team that I raised from colts.I make my living with them and I would be a pure fool to do anything that would jeopardize the bond of trust that is essential between us.They pull like that because it is in their nature and I merely provide them with the opportunity to do so,From their perspective a few explosive starts lasting only seconds,to the roar of a cheering crowd must be preferable to 8 hours of hard work.
I liked everything except when the horses were pulling the " dead sled thing with no wheels , although the farming machine is the finest farm machinery I've ever seen in my life , and very humane

He was also impressed with a horses intelligence.

@sky4you2b I agree with you. The potential for injury to do something useless like this is not worth it. Why hurt the animal?
