  • is this the original??

  • this piece is absolutely beautiful. i wish that my high school's wind ensemble would do this series for a concert. all in a row. they're just soooo amazing. lol

  • and amen

  • This contrasts so strongly to the first piece. The entire work is truly an epic of its own

  • Whenever I'm feeling sad, I listen to this and instantly feel better.

  • Doesn't the beginning sound like the beginning of Willy Wonaka's Paradise?

  • @aveyowyns Brings back so many memories lol

  • I could listen up to 1:44 all day.

  • @BandGeek6241 Yeah, I know, after that it doesn't really sound that much peaceful anymore.

  • Thank you for posting these 4 movements! Thoroughly enjoyed :-)

  • A French Horn cracked at 4:15. D:<

That makes me a little sad, knowing that I'm a French Horn player.

  • still dont fully understand the first 3 sphere of heaven :l

  • amazing songs

  • oops that was an accident

  • qui tollis peccáta mundi, súscipe deprecatiónem nostram. Qui sedes ad déxteram Patris, miserére nobis. Quóniam tu solus Sanctus, tu solus Dóminus, tu solus Altíssimus, Iesu Christe, cum Sancto Spíritu: in glória Dei Patris. Amen

  • Glória in excélsis Deo et in terra pax homínibus bonae voluntátis. Laudámus te, benedícimus te, adorámus te, glorificámus te, grátias ágimus tibi propter magnam glóriam tuam, Dómine Deus, Rex cæléstis,  Deus Pater omnípotens. Dómine Fili Unigénite, Iesu Christe, Dómine Deus, Agnus Dei, Fílius Patris, qui tollis peccáta mundi, miserére nobis;

  • 3:18

  • that aside. I LOVE this peice

  • "Oh come all ye faithful" right there in the beginning with the horns. Just saying someone ripped someone else off.

  • Love this playin it in our orchestra class sounds amazing

  • marching to this blows its much better for concert band you have to cut a lot of the good parts in each piece or even an entire moment

  • How on earth does one march to a concert piece?

  • well, they changed some parts of this, so tis easier to march to...

  • @zomgnerdftw either march it at tempo or speed it up a litlle bit. make it louder too, thats pretty much it

  • @zomgnerdftw It takes time and patience to get everything just how you want it. I know because our band marched to the three pieces from Dante's Inferno: Inferno, Paradiso, and Ascension in 2008-2009.

  • @zomgnerdftw hard work and determination. oh and memorizing it in the first week

  • @zomgnerdftw my school did it this year

  • @zomgnerdftw drum corps do it often or they would transpose the piece so that it is march-able. Like Santa Clara, did Phantom of the Opera, orgianlly concert but they marched.

  • @zomgnerdftw how does one march to a jazz chart? in fact how does one march to three jazz charts with an accelerando at the end of the ballad? it was fun. my high school did that for the show last year. all jazz music. it got dissed though. lol

  • I love playing this song..favorite parts are the singing at the beginning and the Bari Sax runs I have towards the end haha

  • our msrching band does this song, and yes, we sing while we march... its pretty cool

  • OMJ this and Purgatorio are my favorite, but we're stuck playin the Ascension.. :(

i luv the horn part also!!! & omj i luv the french horn.....that was my first choice instrument!!!

  • were playing this song at our senior graduation! :D

  • I can't wait to play this song next year!!! I love all of the pieces of the Divine Comedy. Robert W. Smith did an AMAZINGGG job!! <3 (Go flutes!!!) =D

  • This is one of the coolest pieces to play ever! And we get to sing when we play it. A rare thing for violinist to sing.

Dante's book is awesome. It was one of my favorites. If songs are based on books, I always read the book.

  • my favorite part of the book Divine Comedy is when Dante ascends to Heaven and sees God, I mean come on THATS THE ABSOLUTE HAPPINESS EVERYONE WANTS!

    GLORY TO THE LORD!

  • my band will probably be playing the whole divine comedy...

    AWESOME!!!

  • our band is playing this.

    man...i love this song.

just wish we could sound like this too.

    XP

  • I don't really like this movement besides the brass choir I prefer inferno and purgatorio

  • personally, I think inferno and ascension are the best.

  • Yeah, I agree. I like inferno and ascension the best and paradiso is pretty good. I'm just not to fond of purgatorio.

  • How can you not like Purgatorio?? It's awesome..the tribal drum soli section, the soprano sax solo, the demonic chanting, and the crazy trumpet fanfare?? It doesn't get much better than that

  • But really, hen I'm listenign to the piece that is the only part I enjoy listening to. The other 3 minutes of it is a little boring.

  • One of the best concerts I've ever played in was the one containing Robert W. Smiths Divine Comedy.

  • WHen the choir comes in at 1:00, that just adds that much more to the heavenly feel of this piece. So angelic!

  • i love this and acension

  • =[

nooow, this sonq makes you think about a lot of things.

    &nddd it made me cryyyy....

  • I get to play a baritone quartet in this in the marching band!

  • This song makes me smile:)

  • i love this music im soo glad that i got the chance to play it my senior year both paradiso and ascension

  • My summer music program band did the whole symphony for our concert , its a work of art

  • my high school band is doing all 4 movements for our spring concert next thursday. WE WILL FCK THE CROWD

  • u wont fck as hard as Columbia did when we marched all the movements in 2004

  • rly?

    nice!

I got to do that 2 yrs ago, its really, really awesome :)

  • I absolutely love this song. It's so beautiful. The ascension and Paradiso are so beautiful. I love how it was written. It goes from the depths of hell and works it's way up. The story that goes along with the divine comedy is also amazing...

  • My school played Inferno last year, we're playing Purgatorio for this year's spring concert.

  • We're doing the Divine Comedy in concert band this year. I'm really excited. We haven't learned paradiso yet. I just love how themes from each part all tie into the other pieces.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeeee divine comedy is my marching bands show for next year! wooo paradiso!

  • Inferno must be showcased. And what is with marching bands wanting to do this lately?

  • bcuz it kicks ass. we did it in 2004, whats wrong wit that

  • Nothing if it is done right.

  • To tinrob:

You can get it on LimeWire...that's where I got mine!! ^^

  • what did you do, search for each movement individually?

  • Inferno and Ascension can definitely stand on their own. I realize the composer wanted to tell the story of the Ascension on his own, but considering the restatement of theme from from Ascension, I wonder if he truly has suceeded in that distinction.

  • sike.

  • where can i get an mp3 of the music? :D

  • the timpany part at 4:30 is a real killer!

  • This makes me cry at 1:53 because that would've been me if I hadn't quit.

  • That's why quitting is for bitches.
