Not many were willing to take the job, the original choice was Pat Lachman (former Damageplan vocalist also performed at the early reunion concerts).

I don't know what the whole story is but I'm pretty sure Will was second choice, he did perform Layne's parts in many AIC songs Jerry played on his solo tour.

Jerry is Alice In Chains, not Layne (the other guys are really talented too, Sean, the drummer, is incredible for instance). Just because Layne (sadly) died doesn't mean he was AIC. That's the kind of bullshit the media puts into your minds. It's like saying David Gahan is Depeche Mode, when Martin Gore is. A band is made by the creative drive. Layne was great, I respect him and think he was very talented and unique but the new guy does have talent. Let them be and RIP Layne.

This is the first place I've heard the new guy, Duvall? I was real skeptical. He sounds really good. His style will fit AIC just fine, I think, and he has similar vocal qualities as Layne and can pull off the old stuff well. I have more faith in "my boys" now.

This is one of the first times they played live in 2006...saw them twice in Tampa (electric) and Orlando (accoustic)this year, and they rocked, and you can't do the compare game.....Layne decided to off himself and ttere's no bringing him back....let the music live, and William does a good job with it.
