I just had to come back and watch this video again! And if I had to choose my favorite Doctor it would be impossible but Jon Pertwee if definitely one of the top!
Every single one of them... William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith all of them are brilliant!
I had always wondered who the white haired guy was when PBS ran "Robot". When I finally saw "Spearhead from Space" I was hooked. When asked recently by a British co-worker who my favorite Doctor was, I answered "Jon Pertwee" and I still mean it.
My intro to DW was Tom Baker on late 70's American PBS, so I considered him the best Dr for many years. FINALLY got the chance to see most of available Classic DW, plus some of the New Series. NOW consider Pertwee #1, followed by T.Baker, Troughton, Hartnell, & Tennant.
The best era of DW? The "Sarah Jane Era" with lovely, irreplaceable, and much missed Elisabeth Sladen, Seasons 11-to-14, Series 2&4, PLUS the incredibly good SJA.
@MegaClam1 Not only that he also taught Chuck Norris, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger etc that you don't need to be young to be badass ;)
@DoctorD279 No, I don't think so. It doesn't have the blue Metebelis 3 light. I mean the bit just before that. Not the tentacle attack, but the bit with steam or fog and something grabbing him from behind.
@DoctorD279 I finally placed the clip -- it's from "Death to the Daleks," the Doctor objecting to attempts to make him breathe druggy incense at a ritual sacrifice. I hadn't seen that story in about 25 years, oops...
this is the best 3rd doctor video. It really captures his era and his personality. He was the James Bond of the Doctors despite his age and who the hell could pull of frilled shirts and capes besides Jon Pertwee.. Thought it was cool that Matt Smith got his clothes from a very similar hospital, i'm sure that was a 'homage' to Jon Pertwee.
Never delete this again, o Babelcolour! However awful the song may be, it does work for the Third Doctor. This is a great tribute to a Doctor I love enormously.
You deleted all the other tributes you had on disk? More lost Doctor Who "episodes", 'eh? :)
Pertwee was the "James Bond" of the Doctors I reckon. :) It's so depressing viewing this stuff sometimes when you know the actors are all (or nearly all) dead and this is the stuff of my childhood. Makes me feel near death myself. :(
Funny...saw this song used recently in a tribute to the Brig...does this mean when John Levene or Richard Franklin bite it (which hopefully won't be for a long, long time) their tribute videos will be set to this song as well?
whatever3132 said it! I mean, I enjoy the other Doctors. They all have their good qualities. But Pertwee was just THE BEST. He's never been topped, and I really doubt he ever will be! (Also, although I agree with you on the song, it's kind of oddly appropriate for his Doctor...)
You the music could really work for any of the Doctors because he is a hero. He doesn't fight phyically like Pertwee did but they did always save the day. But this is still an awesome video.
Jon may have been the dr. most like James Bond, but he also had the most distintive gentlemanly persona and subtle sex appeal. His era showcased what a great ensamble piece the show could be, via UNIT and the exile to earth. He had great chemistry with his female compainions, members od UNIT, and his good friend who played the master, Rodger Delgado. People forget that he was very gracious to fans of the show and a real ham. I was very sad when he died in 1996.
Pertwee is by far my favorite doctor. I keep hoping we'll have another just like him, not the goofy ones they've had lately. I think the third doctor has ruined me for any other.
He is and will always be my favorite. Oh, I love all the other Doctors a great deal, but Pertwee is just... WOW. He was like James Bond with a (broken) TARDIS!
1) Tom Baker 2) John Pertwee 3) Patrick Troughton 4) Matt Smith 5) William Hartnell 6) Colin Baker 7) Peter Davison 8) Sylvester Mccoy 9) Paul McGann 10) David Tennant 11) Christopher Eccleston
He was def the most physically strongest of the doctors. The number of episodes he goes hand to hand with aliens to take them down was quite good - never leathal - but had the smarts too!
How can anyone hate this? This is probably my favourite of the tributes. The music fits him perfectly, and it's just vidded so well. People need to realise that the music isn't everything... even though I will admit this is a favourite song of mine.
Haha this looks great! I gotta get a hold of some Pertwee episodes!! Anyone know where I can watch them online? Can't rent them anywhere in my city . . .
@Ravengirl1011 Its from 'Spearhead from Space' where The Doctor is trying on clothes from the hospital. Remind you of a episode which has been on this year?
I'm 20 years old now but i was able to find all the old eps of doctor who and Pertwee is my favorite next to Tom. The 3rd doctor is my doctor I don't care what anyone says!
the timelords exiled the dr on earth but he def had a great time (UK was on a 3 day week power cuts at 9pm, the BBC was broke) but great scripts and a excellent doctor & master
Random trivia for you- My mum (i know, imbarrasing) met doctor number three, he sat next her on a bus. Apprently he was headed for a surrey in wales..
Looks like even today the bbc dont stray far from wales :P
I think it might have been the five doctor episode, not sure. shame he passed away. R.I.P.
I have watched this countless times.. Jon Pertwee is my absolute favorite doctor! I realize that sometime this video will no longer be available to watch.. if only there was a way of getting a copy... (Hint Hint) Thank you for this video.. it's brilliant and exquisitely done!
your miss understanding me, when pertwee was the doctor, galafrey was still there so he wasnt the last of the timelords, when david tennant was the doctor he was the last one and the master dying was the last of his kind dying.
Amazing that a guy can wear that much velvet and lace, speak with a Brit accent, and still be a bit of a badass... Much as I like 'em all, the 3rd Doc is my favorite, and oft-underrated.
I'll admit I'm not a big fan of the song - but it's entirely appropriate as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the more physical, swashbuckling style of Pertwee's portrayal of the Doctor. Good video!
I really like the song, always have and the Doctor is a true hero. Three is one of my fav docs. He was smart and caring and brave and I'd have gone off with him and Bessie in a minute. Jo was one lucky companion. Jon Pertwee was a tremendous actor. Thanks for the vid that celebrates him.
Good tribute. I think the music is good but if you dont like then I could recommend "Live to win" or "Live and let die" for a re-make (if your doing one) but I think Hero works
I think Pertwee had the best era of the show. He doesn't have a bad episode. His worst episode isn't nearly as bad as the other doctor's worst episodes. Gotta love Pertwee.
Every Jon Pertwee story exists. Just not all are in colour, at least not yet anyway but many are being vidfired. The Doctors who are missing stories are Hartnell and Troughton with the latter affected the worse, shame really as he had some crackers and was fantastic in the role.
This was awesome! Jon Pertwee was the very first Doctor I ever saw, when they were re-running it on PBS in the mid-80s. Sadly, it was the BOSS supercomputer storyline, which BBC purged, so I'll probably never have it on DVD.
the BOSS supercomputer? Wouldn't that be the Green Death? You're actually wrong--the green death does exist--in fact, I just finished watching it. I can send you the link where I saw it.
You're right of course, but there's a long running Dr Who vid of Harry using the same tune, so it'll always be Harry's tune for me! ( I'm sadly a LOT older than you!) X
It's called 'the thoroughly decent Harry Sullivan'. Sarah Jane and Harry made a lovely team - she was like his Mum! Harry was a perfect hero - gormless, not a clue what was going on, but would take a bullet for his friends. He made us little boys think that we could be heroes too.
Aaaaw! All the stuff we missed... in Germany we only got Sylvester McCoy on TV - and of course Eccleston and Tennant in recent years. But the rest... General public is really missing out on something there. Cheers and thx for the vid, again!
i love the perfect timing of the "crashes" in the song--like "I need a hero" *crash*--it's just sublime! I'm going to be really mad if youtube mutes this video!
If you're doing a new tribute (like you did for Tennant's Doctor), I had an idea. Make it show the bleaker side of Pertwee's Doctor, in that he's a prisoner, marooned on Earth. He's had to regenerate into a heroic personality, as he instinctively knew that he couldn't just cut and run in the TARDIS; whatever came, he would have to stand and fight. Not quite sure what song would work for that, though.
If someone else had taken over from Patrick Troughton, it would have seemed ridiculous that Jon Pertwee was even considered. Instead, Pertwee played the part dead straight, as arguably the best and most heroic incarnation of the Doctor to date.
Babelcolour, a great tribute. There will never be another Jon Pertwee.

Thanks! I just got finished watching it. It was even better than I remember.

I see you use a lot of clips from the mutants--is that your favorite 3rd doctor serial, or one of your favorites?

A Re-edit needed, as this song is dedicated to 'Harry Sullivan', still good to!. I miss Ian Marter.

a re-edit? Are you crazy? This song is perfect for the Third Doctor!
harrietamidala1691 2 years ago 3
You're right of course, but there's a long running Dr Who vid of Harry using the same tune, so it'll always be Harry's tune for me! ( I'm sadly a LOT older than you!) X

what's the video? I'd like to see it for myself.
harrietamidala1691 2 years ago

Jon Pertwee is probably one of my most favorite Doctors next to Patrick Troughton.

the clip where the third doctor is waving, from 1:10 to 1:11, what serial is that from?
harrietamidala1691 3 years ago
The Time Warrior.
Sarah: "Are you going to sleep there?"
The Doctor: "If you'll allow me to do so." Wave. "Goodnight"
Cool stuff!

The third Doctor was the James Bond of Dr. Who! Good show, Jon Pertwee. You outdid even Sean Connery.

I like the way that BabelColour chooses the most obvious song choice that no-one else dares to touch.

and makes it awesome ^.^
