  • Very slick setup. I'm envious now lol.

  • Sweet setup. Thanks for your videos.

  • YP I have you on autoplay. I don't know how many I will actually be able to view, but I find this fascinating, useful and thought provoking. Keep up the good work! I'll keep watching!

  • extremely awesome series of videos!!!

  • Outstanding Video!!! Very nice!!

  • Wow Thanks for all the effort that went into making this film attached is my humble bugout trailer set up be safe my very best

    Michael S

  • Thanks for putting this series of videos together. I have learned a lot, and enjoy watching your videos.

  • I really like that stainless table you got your radio setup on, looks solid did you build or buy? Thanks!

  • @Toms2439 Sam's Club.

  • @Toms2439 Sam's Club

  • Great job on your of grid installation. You mentioned were are now looking at solar and wind. What solar panel and wind turbine systems have you been look at?

  • Great system!! have you thought about solar panels instead of wind power ?

  • @sharkT3 Start at 3:51 in the video

  • @brutus64804 This is a not a beginner or "hand hold" channel. Do you homework and you would not have to ask those questions.

  • How long will the battery bank run most of your essentials before they drain down and you need to fire up the generator?

  • @amusingisthedawn A long long time.

  • @Yankeeprepper

Well, thanks for the video. If you had to do it over again and you could only spend money on either a generator or the battery bank...which would you consider doing first?

  • @amusingisthedawn That's like the Chick or the Egg" question. You are going to need both for a serious off grid project. But a generator is nice for short term power supply and welding.

  • @Yankeeprepper

I'll have to look into how much of a charge I can get with solar panels. I start investing in a battery bank and panels, but i'd hate to spend the money to find out solar can't keep up with the battery bank. I'm actually a generator mechanic, but even I know that it's unrealistic to run a gasoline, diesel, or natural gas generator for prime power in a household. Your set-up is pretty much ideal for long term.

  • @amusingisthedawn I would take alot of money to purchase enough solar out right to keep the battery bank ahead of the draw. So I started off with a reasonable working system. Solar panels are coming down in price and the technology is getting better all the time.

  • @Yankeeprepper Very true. I suppose the easiest and cheapest way to get started would be to wire a sub panel and transfer switch, then they can sit and look lonely until I have enough money to attach a power generating source :)

  • @amusingisthedawn I had to wait too. It wasn't easy to find a Lister. I have been looking at Changfa diesels too. I recently found a couple small Listers on a miiitary surplus auction site that were pretty interesting. They were surplus motors used for light trailers. No listers like mine, but still a good model. I wish I had the time and money to tinker at this stuff. I would have a garage full of slow speed small diesels.

  • @Yankeeprepper I wasn't aware of the slow speed stuff until I saw your video. It's VERY cool. The last lister I worked on was a 4 cylinder air cooled (1800rpm) It was electric start and had a couple of hundred hours on it, but it ran like a champ. I'm always fascinated when I come across a generator that's in service that is 50 years old.

  • This is an amazing series of vids. Something I definitely want to do soon. I shudder to think about how much it must have cost. Thanks YP!!

  • I have a couple of quick questions. Did you buy all those batteries at once, and if so did you get a discount? Is there a specific amperage you look for when buying the deep cycle, and how about a brand? What gauge wiring do you use there? How long did it take you amass ? Thanks for the info.

  • Good series of videos.

  • Thank you for the informative videos... you are doing it and that's what I like about your clips.

Question tho. Where did you get your panel/switch .... you have it tagged as main panel and solar-wind? I like that fact that you have either one or the other on, not both. Thanks

  • @lovethesimplythings Northern Tools

  • Thank you sir! You are the real heart and soul of what it means to be an American.

    Long Live the Republic!

  • One thing nice about your system if one side fails the other can be use. People need to think ahead incase of a disaster. Simple back up power and an alternate source of heat are important.

  • @darkwoodsoutdoors There is not "luck" about it. And I didn't ask for you advice

  • Looks pretty slick!

  • Nice work Yankee!

  • Have you hooked up solar or wind since this video? I would be interested in a video if you have. Great video

  • @KellyBtech I simply answered your question as quick and to the point as I could. Nothing more behind it.

  • @KellyBtech And no ventilation is necessary

  • @KellyBtech I would not consider it.

  • @NAEP3K2 I know exactly what you are saying. And if you are a Dummy, I think YOU should make your system DUMMY proof for you. Do you know how sick I am of people like you? There isn't enough comment space. I want you to WORRY about YOUR life. I want you YOU to take care of yourself and MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. I have not asked for your advice and you get no cookies. You are the problem with American culture today. Take your SAFETY SALLY ASSHATERY and keep it to your world.

  • @kjpaint8 I did it all. I did not want to call an electrician in, because I was not interested in city codes or inspection.

  • @NAEP3K2 I don't see any problems. I wired and set it up the way I want it. And I don't need any safe guards. If you build your system and think you need one, I suggest you do it.

  • so all in all, how much did this awesome set up set you back?

  • @Yankeeprepper I know that an inverter is needed. Is the charge controller also needed if you are not using solar?

  • @tallytaxman Unless your charging method matches the volts in your bank and you are willing to physically watch the charge level in your batteries you are going to need something else to do it.

  • Yankee, One year later how is this system performing? Any upgrades?

  • @RoninX4 It all works as planned.

  • @my20lbcat I can't answer that. There are to many "ifs" The entire basement is well protected, but nothing....NOTHING is EMP proof. The strength and vicinity are key.

  • Nice Inverter Buddy

  • @BestCatEvaDontHateMe Yes, or worse.

  • so you are a ham radio op i am too kd5sby

  • @cyberlight22 Nope, I am a pirate.

  • A very nice job. What about in the main panel on the dead front above your main breaker an insruction sheet, simple 1,2,3 step process for the wife or others in the event your not present at the time needed. Take care-Will

  • Very nice i guess you do have it hooked up. So how is it running so far Hows twotwenty doning on that 48volt .Cant whait for part 4 inless i missed Later from nebraska,

  • must be my lucky day. I have found more than one video such as this one that is actually informative and helpful; not the other useless garbage produced by "those just trying to help" (actually just trying to get attention at the cost of frustrating everyone's search and time )

wish i was able to get to his 'level' as well and rig something like this

  • Nice Job Yankee! As Darth Vader would say..."Impressive...Most impressive!"

  • Dude, i'm so envious of your system. I would love to get to your level someday. excellent run through video. keep up the great work bro

  • outta reach of little fingers....ha ha thinkin like a dad

  • great looking cell

  • Another great video. When running on modified sign wave inverters your allarm clock will run 15 min fast a night I found a sony clock that keeps good time. Thanks for the video. CHEERS WINDY NC

  • this is a very cool set up thank you for the indepth view

  • Wow nice set up

  • Very nice! Very clean job.

Who is the manufacturer of the emergency lighting?

  • Capstone Indust. of out Florida. (manuf. in China) They are sold both at Costco and Sam's under ECO-LITE

Lithium battery last over 9 hours. I have them on every floor. 2 for around 20 bucks.

  • Wow! Those batteries must have cost a fortune! How long can those power your house? I would guess at least a few weeks.

  • I bought the batteries and got the pallet price by going in with a friend at the same time. (48 batteries total, 24 each) By buying in bulk we got them for 100 each, and saved about 20 dollars a battery. So around 2400 dollars. But, the lifespan for the T105 battery is 10 years......so 240 dollars a year is nothing in the big scheme of thngs.

Living carefully I think I could make it a week without genset recharge, but with solar panels.....who knows? we will see....to be cont...

  • Sweet set - up! Now if I could just win the lottery, I too could have one like that. LOL. Seriously though, I'm hoping to get my little set up on line within a few weeks. Really just waiting on me getting some new shingles on the roof, before I can mount the panels up there.

  • can I come to your house after the collapse?

  • Only if your nice to me and look like Angelina Jolie.

  • Didn't know you were in MN, I've been there before. Bloody cold :-)_

  • I can get cold at times. The locals say it keeps the "rif-raf" out.

But it didn't stop me from coming here.

  • I was in Winona one year and it was very snowy and very cold. I was staying with the rifraf
