Some of you guys spend more time bitching on youtube about cars then actually enjoying any of them. I would like an R8, even if the V8 version. Vettes are sick though the choice would be tough for me, I see more vettes on the street and even though most are C6 they kind of ruin it for the ZR1 owners as the looks are to close. The R8 stands out like a soar thumb, sometimes it is about the effect the car has in public over power for some people.

Corvette ZR1, Viper ACR and ZO6 were faster than Audi R8 or other cars on Nurburgring, because: 1) They were driven by prof. drivers who can take car to the limit 2) They had track competition semi-slick tires which cut almost 1,5 second of time per mile of a race track 3) They had suspensions tuned specifically for nurburgring 4) They used racing fuel which increases power output. Those are facts, unquestionable facts.
@kppdsuckakppd What you don't understand is that european car manufacturers dont come to nurburgring to compete, they come to only fine tune some parts of a car, only americans come to nurburgring to compete...but the thing is, they compete ALONE, because lap times on nurburgring arent standardized, when all cars will do lap times in same conditions, on same tires, with stocks setups, with equally skilled drivers, THEN you will be able to use the lap time as a benchmark.

@2gnt STI is nowhere near as fast as R8. People just take STI's to the very limit when they drive them. R8's arent take to limit, nobody would risk crashing, but R8 is very well capable of doing a lap at nordscheife in mid 7:50's, STI can barely do 8:10. Also, STI is nowhere near as fun to drive. Lap times say very little about how cars feel to drive.
You people do realise that The Ring is considered an open toll road right? You don't need a helmet and not many people wear them. I know. I take a Nurburgring vacation every year. Besides, if your a profesional driver, you can do without.
By the way, now that you mention ZR1. Its faster than R8, but its nowhere near as fun or nice to drive. If you watch the video of ZR1 you will see how crappy it is to drive. Its all over the place, steering wheel is moving all the time, its like it has nothing to do with the cars direction. R8 is controllable and does exactly what the driver wants, and gives a lot of feedback. When you're driving a ZR1, what you're doing is preventing it from hitting the wall 90% of the time.
This is Horst Von Saurma, Editor of Sport Auto from Germany. He's held the record at "the ring" numerous times so if he looks bored, it's because he's been around 1000's of times, similar to Sabine Schmitz. The camera placement is absolutely annoying. Using 2 cameras to shoot and using an insert to show the driver would have been much better. I must say I have even greater respect for the creators of Gran Turismo 4, they simulated this circuit beautifully and I knew where he was and what he was doing just from playing that game. I even could tell where he would back off in places you don't have to in the safety of a video game.

I own a R-Tronic R8. He is not using an R tronic transmission. There are no shift paddles on the wheel, the R-tronic gearbox does not make such a loud metallic click when shifting and you can clearly see his arm moving the gear lever horizontally a number of times, something you would have no reason to ever do using R-tronic (also if he had R-tronic why would he keep bothering to move his right hand to the stick while trying to set a laptime?)
Yes it is the manual gearbox. The R8 has the metal gated shifter that's why you hear the clicks when he shifts. Do you see any paddles behind the steering wheel? Didn't think so, obviously it's not the automated manual. It even says right in the video description that it's the manual.
That's no manual gearbox, dude!! It's the Audi's R-tronic or Tiptronic gearbox kinda like the DSG gearbox on Volkswagen but a bit faster on the gear change... It's an automatic and sequencial gearbox. And he's using the sequencial mode!!

sti killed this time for way less also lol. mind you i dont know whether this guy is a professional or not. Which makes a world of difference. he does seem to know the nordschliefe decently well tho. Still sad to see that a 50 thousand dollar (cnd) car can rape a 180 thousand just by being a better driver. Still amazing seeing that beautiful piece of engineering lap the greatest testament to car and driver the earth has to offer.

@2gnt STI is nowhere near as fast as R8. People just take STI's to the very limit when they drive them. R8's arent take to limit, nobody would risk crashing, but R8 is very well capable of doing a lap at nordscheife in mid 7:50's, STI can barely do 8:10. Also, STI is nowhere near as fun to drive. Lap times say very little about how cars feel to drive.

You people do realise that The Ring is considered an open toll road right? You don't need a helmet and not many people wear them. I know. I take a Nurburgring vacation every year. Besides, if your a profesional driver, you can do without.

By the way, now that you mention ZR1. Its faster than R8, but its nowhere near as fun or nice to drive. If you watch the video of ZR1 you will see how crappy it is to drive. Its all over the place, steering wheel is moving all the time, its like it has nothing to do with the cars direction. R8 is controllable and does exactly what the driver wants, and gives a lot of feedback. When you're driving a ZR1, what you're doing is preventing it from hitting the wall 90% of the time.

This is Horst Von Saurma, Editor of Sport Auto from Germany. He's held the record at "the ring" numerous times so if he looks bored, it's because he's been around 1000's of times, similar to Sabine Schmitz. Jason Wright Brown is a complete fool if he thinks Horst doesn't have balls. Jason probably couldn't break 10 min in an R8. Watch what you say if you don't know what you're saying. @wrenhour hahah 1000's of times or no, he still managed to get just bored enough to lose concentration near the end, not guage his speed going into the last corner, and had to correct by stomping on those big ceramics and throwing the shifter down a gear as fast as he could, lol, you can tell because he managed to get the wipers going full speed in that little moment of panic LOL

The camera placement is absolutely annoying. Using 2 cameras to shoot and using an insert to show the driver would have been much better. I must say I have even greater respect for the creators of Gran Turismo 4, they simulated this circuit beautifully and I knew where he was and what he was doing just from playing that game. I even could tell where he would back off in places you don't have to in the safety of a video game.

I own a R-Tronic R8. He is not using an R tronic transmission. There are no shift paddles on the wheel, the R-tronic gearbox does not make such a loud metallic click when shifting and you can clearly see his arm moving the gear lever horizontally a number of times, something you would have no reason to ever do using R-tronic (also if he had R-tronic why would he keep bothering to move his right hand to the stick while trying to set a laptime?)

Yes it is the manual gearbox. The R8 has the metal gated shifter that's why you hear the clicks when he shifts. Do you see any paddles behind the steering wheel? Didn't think so, obviously it's not the automated manual. It even says right in the video description that it's the manual.

That's no manual gearbox, dude!! It's the Audi's R-tronic or Tiptronic gearbox kinda like the DSG gearbox on Volkswagen but a bit faster on the gear change... It's an automatic and sequencial gearbox. And he's using the sequencial mode!!
