As an umpire there are a few things you live for: 1)getting as psycho as possible when calling "strike 3". 2)throwing someone out of the game. Blown opportunity
I have friends who umpires in the minor leagues. They told me some of the things the coaches said. Sometimes a coach will come up to an umpire and say, "I don't wanna watch this *bleeping* game. Please throw me out.
He wasnt thrown out i bat boy for a minor leauge team and when they do tht with there arm they are signaling a picthing change or some kind of change on the field to the pressbox. Also, he had a pen and paper out because he was writing the name down.
@MrMackey2mhhkay yes the coach was def. thrown out haha. the coach would signal for the pitching change. not the ref. Why would he signal to the pressbox that there is a change? lol I'm sure they could figure it out when 1 new player is walking on the field
@redsox1904 As I said, it happened in this bush league that umps changed calls. See video, "An appeal is worth 1 run". Other times 'foul/homer' calls were reversed (one time call was changed twice) and a few times 'homer/fly ball off the wall' calls were changed. I saw a check swing changed to a strike once, and a lot of times rulebook stuff was argued and won, i.e. how many bases on an error. Ball/strike calls weren't changed. None of the others would have been had the manager not argued.
I bet he was like, "you made a bullshit call, but thats alright, cause at the end of the day, im making 6 digits and getting laid while your calling these bullshit games" lol
he was tossed. after the tossing hand gesture, the ump says "you're done" to him. he was ejected actually for falsifying the lineup card. i worked for the team as an intern from 2008-2011.
Managers argue so that next time they will make the right call. Just like in any sport do you tell your kids ohhhh its ok u missed that ball. No its not ok Catch the ball thats your job. Im talking if your child is really good at a sport. You play to win the game
Why do players/managers insist on arguing with the umps on judgement calls? It's not like the ump is gonna change his mind on the call. It pisses me off when I see a manager come out of the dugout specifically to argue, it's pointless.
@TheRobbo6 its called making a point....setting an example for your team, even though it won't change the call, you let the ump know that he dropped the ball on that call
@TheRobbo6 to let the ump know they were wrong so it doesn't happen again and possibly meet with the other umpires. If you're so knowledgeable of the game why aren't you coaching in the mlb?
@TheRobbo6 its not so they will change their call. A lot of times managers will try to get ejected to start a rally for their team. As dumb as it sounds, it actually works if your manager does it right
@TheRobbo6 A coach or manager going and getting in the umps face can make a difference. The ump won't change a call he has already made (in most cases) but he could potentially tighten up the zone or open it up a little more depending on what the coach/manager had to say.
@TheRobbo6 It's actually not even about getting them to change their minds, it happens sometimes yes, but pretty rare. It's more about setting an example, making the umps think on the next play, as well as setting an example to your team. It's a big part of baseball.
@TheRobbo6 Sometimes its to protect the players, ex. If the player argues over a call it can lead in a suspention but if the manager takes over its just the for the game in most cases
If you ever see a coach go to the umpire after a mound visit, 99% of the time this is the result. He had no intention of staying in the game, and the umpire obliged him.
Most people dont realize that any argument (hostile or calm) against a decision of the umpire based on judgment is forbidden by the rules. Period. They can eject them simply by them walking towards them after a call with intent to argue against a judgement call.
At some point you have to realize that this manager is in every one of these umpire clips. Either he's nuts or the rest of the world is crazy. What a jerk!
You don't have to yell and scream and throw things to get tossed. A simple "You are a horsebleep umpire" will get you thrown every time. As will leaving your position (as he's essentially doing here) to argue balls and strikes.
The manager clearly knew where the line was and knew he had crossed it.
