Good thing they were just hippies, I wonder how many thousands of real lives have been lost due to their Godless culture? perhaps millions depending on how you count?
Killing is a buisenness . Lets not be naive . 100,000 -1,000,000 dead in Iraq . 150,000 in libya . Its beyond calateral damage . We have sociopaths running things .Politician ,banker, mobster , same thing .I wonder how many Americans still think the government CARES ABOUT US(lol)
I hate Ohio to this day because of they called in the national guard to shoot those unarmed civilians. I hate the voters who elected the govenor that called in the guard, I hate the american government (not this land, just those in charge) who ordered the guard to kill UNARMED CIVILIANS. 2 students not in the protests were killed while walking to class at Kent State. May it burn to the ground and be every remembered for the murder of the century.
More than just that, these "PEACEFUL" youths also set the dorms on fire and chopped up the hoses that the firefighters had run from the trucks to the dorms. Resulting in the death of a firefighter, and hospitilization of other firefighters. They also hit another cop with a rock so hard that it shattered his skull and almost killed him. These idiots got just exactly what they asked for !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just think how many South Vietnamese were murdered by the Communists after America withdrew. The Communists stated they were emboldened to keep fighting after witnessing the anti-war protests in America, otherwise they would have conceded long before. There is much blood on the hands of the hippie protester movement.
"Smoke a pig, make baby Jesus smile." I think that is in the Old Testament. I for one hope we see this kind of action again soon. Strange that even with all the shiny weapons, the American public are such pliant heifers. Neil Young rocks, and oh yeah, the heli crashes because of "technical problems" and never because the evil-doers shot it down. Hardy har har!
@crazychildruns Once the airlift of US Embassy personnel & certain key South Viet Namese personnel who were "friendly" to the US was completed out of Saigon, the US Government decided to purposely scuttle those helicoptors overboard off the US aircraft carriers in order to keep them out of the hands of the advancing North Viet Cong Army. Essentially the people in Saigon & the rest of South Viet Nam who didn't manage to escape with the US personnel withdrawal, were abandoned to their fates.
"When government starts shooting its people in the streets, they lose all legitimacy to govern" The United States Government started shooting in the 60's and has never stopped... By their own admission and standard they are an illegitimate enity.
Ronald Reagan was a great man indeed! A++ The hippies and the freaks were absolutely worthless. The hippies and the freaks did not do a dam thing for America! The hippies and the freaks cost the taxpayers millions of dollars do to the willful and malicious destruction and defacement of public and private property that the hippies and the freaks were responsible for. in addition, millions of dollars were spent on police to protect public and private property from the hippies and freaks!
I lived in koonce hall. I sat on that hill behind prentice hall many a night. it rivits your insides to think the chinese do not run over their own with tanks, but we fire on our own. the guard is the equivalent of the gestapo with the DOJ in pocket.
protesting doesn't accomplish shit. you just get thrown in jail or get shot. here in L.A. during the may day melee, protesters, students, women and children even reporters got their asses beat or shot with bean bags or rubber bullets. that's why the fuck with protesting. you may be down for the cause but where does it really get you?
@derirobbie if the cause is good, protesting can accomplish so much, protests are what MK junior used and he ended segregation, Gandhi used protests and liberated India, protests in the middle east are bringing down dictators currently. if no one protested the Vietnam war, it may have ended years later. protests are the best way for people to pressure their government into changing the country. people will be incarcerated, and people will die, but sacrifice is part of revolution.
It's very hard to watch this segment of history! I was 19 y.o. & out on my own for less than a year. I remember when it was happening & just how scared everyone in that same age group was! We all knew that if they'd do this to university students ...who was going to be next!?!! I lived in Houston, TX @ the time & it felt like every cop in the entire state had it "in" for any & all long-haired "hippies" no matter how benign & peaceful someone was!!
The Kent State massacre is one of the few mass murders with Substantial video, Substantial photographic, substantial audio recoding evidence, & substantial eye-witness accounts that as NEVER been prosecuted in the United States. There is no statute of limitation
Kent State civil suits only eliminating shooting citizens. The First amendment of the constitution, is only-now honored for Freedom of Assembly & Free Speech
4 Lives lost & 9 shot - high price for citizen's to achieve real Const-Rights
@MyRepresentativeOrg ....the police could have been prosecuted, but when the military is used to police civilians they are free to do as they please, and are protected by law. thats why there was never a criminal trial. there were wrongfull death settelments made however.
Human Individual Percieving Perfection Intelligence and Enlightenment.
Now May 1st 2011 in Illinois at the Western University WIU another thing happened and the NWO upon us. While all watched Osama killed this was happening to our freedom.
@jjjbabies I thought EVERYONE knew this song but I guess it's only folks of a certain age bracket (40-50+)... shows how old I'm getting, right? Anyway, it's "OHIO" written by Neil Young and sung by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
All presidents have the same genetic hereitage, all have tired to get a dictatorship in America. All World leaders take orders from the evil Vatican, Black Pope! Stop voting for these cowards! Protect your guns! Round up congress and throw every damn one of them in the FEMA camps! WW3 is coming!
@WolfEchoes The Democratic Nat'l Convention was held in Chicago & the "riots" that resulted were in 1968. Kent State massacre was May, 1970. The US Embassy in Saigon was abandoned in April, 1975.
The Kent State shootings—also known as the May 4 massacre or Kent State massacre[2][3][4]—occurred at Kent State University in the city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by members of the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.
@2656music2656 I swear some of the footage looks like it was during the Democratic National Convention held in Chicago in 1968 when Mayor Daley was in power. That was another event that the US Government et al should be ashamed of!!
@CroneGrimalkin , yes, unfortunately for America the US gov. is beyond feeling shame for anyone or anything it does to folks, foreign or domestic. Then and now.
@2656music2656 i know about vietnam (father's war) and war (personal experience). the kent state protests were organized by marxist radicals. these are people who hated america, and regular peace seekers fell in with them. no one deserved to die. my father was spit on and had to listen to jane fucking fonda talking shit about her own country over there on the radio. it isn't hippies i hate, it is seditious traitors. but traitors are both lib and conservative, as are patriots
even if what you say is true, that was still an incredibly ignorant comment. And yeah I dont much care for Jane Fonda or what she had to say about this country.
@2656music2656 what did i say that was ignorant. all you have to do is watch videos of those people talking and giving speeches during rallies. now read the alien and seditions act. can you tell me that they did not violate it and keep a straight face?
@2656music2656 You tell 'em, bro. No hippies, no love for 2 decades. Simple as that. I was too young for movement, but have them to thank for what little love and compassion we see evident today. Wish we can have hippies back for another go at it.
@jhaul21 Two of the students who were killed wern't part of the protests, but were merely walking between classes. Sandra Scheuer (honor student) -shot in the neck. William Knox Schroeder (honor student) -shot in the back. Who shoots a student in the back?! Its discusting! What about them? They wern't ''fucking hippies'' as you put it! They wern't a threat, they wern't protesting they were just there to learn!
It is so surreal to watch this video..being at Kent on May 4...and now seeing ads in the Columbus Dispatch for travel vacation packages to Vietnam.............
It is so surreal to watch this video..being at Kent on May 4...and now seeing ads in the Columbus Dispatch for travel vacation packages to Vietnam...........................
new evidence found in the archives of kent states library cordinates with the testimony of the nation guards men. the protesters used violent force and you can hear the sound of a .38 pistol firing showing that the guards men were using self defense
@nippy818 talk is cheap buddy until you show that "evidence" its just here say. to everyone else all I know is I hope Nixon is rotting in hell along with his whole cabinet, as long as good people fight and die freedom will never.
@nippy818 so there was supposedly one pistol, but no more. What about the other deaths? Don't try to justify the actions of the guards men. it was cruel what they did
Lest we forget....This is what happens when people assemble peacefully to voice their opinions and the government disagrees with what the people are saying. I was a teenager when this happened, and I remember feeling very afraid and thinking that this was not the America that I knew and loved. Think it can't happen in ...this day and age? Think again. I predict that if it does happen again, it will be on a much larger scale. Freedom is worth fighting for, no matter what the cost.
some people will never understand what a true visionary is- A visionary sees things others don't and is usually ostracized and years ago many were put in insane asylums. Men like Galileo who saw that things were not as the masses said, were arrested and called heretics-
It is imperative FOR US TO KEEP AN OPEN MIND AND TRY TO ENVISION THINGS WE MAY NOT SEE IN FRONT OF OUR FACES- BLAME IS FOR LOSERS-
Invading a nation because it could pose a threat is no different than robbing a man because "he would have wasted his money anyhow". But income taxes are a whole different story.
You know, for those claiming that this morally disgusting act was okay, because they were 'pinky commie hippies', how would you feel if your 18 year old son or daughter was shot in the face by your own countrymen for thinking for themselves, and protesting against an unjustifiable war, say...the one going on right now?
@videogamenostalgia WHAT IS AMERICANS PROBLEM? DONT THEY SEE THEIR TROOPS ARE HELPING THE WORLD??? I thank God for american soldiers... they are much better than my nation's... they love justice. why do you slander your soldiers so??
@videogamenostalgia not to mention the fact that two of the students who were killed wern't part of the protests, but were merely walking between classes.
@Maksimfan Very true...and wasn't Bill schroeder even a member of the national guard, or something like that, or maybe on an ROTC scolarship? I remember reading that he went down to observe the mobiliztion of the ONG at the field (there is even a published photo of him walking away...up the hill looking back at guard as he left to walk to class, books under his arm, just a few minutes before he was killed
@videogamenostalgia right on, war is not something that we should send men to just because we do not like the way they are governed, and America is also meant to be a country of free speech, we're meant to uphold that freedom of speech, this is just another thing that Nixon did wrong when he led the country
@videogamenostalgia Yup. Nixon and his Thugs were scared to death by people who think. Come to think of it, modern Repukelicans are infected by the same disease. Republican = Believe on Wednesday the same stupid rhetoric you believed on Monday despite what truth was revealed on Tuesday.
War is ignorant and unneeded for our civilizations as a whole to prosper. Soon there will be martial law on U.S. Soil and people will play into the game like sheep. Race , money, religion will all play a huge hand, and unfortunately people will fall for it and fight against their own brothers. Our main concern as human beings should be our people as a whole, not where we can make a buck, who's popular, and insignificant things that will be our downfall. Look at whats going on today.. it's sad.
Thin blue line is one suck ass bullshit thing...kids died...good kids...just wanted to tell the truth...this whole Kent State massacre makes me sick to my stomach...and I was only 2
It is amazing. If you look at the Bloody sunday inquiry in Britain, we spent tens of millions to prove it was unlawful killings. And our Paras were receiving incoming fire!
You gotta take the law seriously. Somebody should have been prosecuted.
@SvenTviking Well, I'll tell you...one of the cops who fired the shots is a city councilman of a neighboring town today....he's been there for some time....so obviously there are people at least in Ohio who think that this was alright; how else could he have been elected and re-elected? The saddest thing here was one of the four deaths was a girl on her way to her speech therapy class who had no part in the demonstration; an ironic thing was that another of the four deaths was a ROTC student
SavageDoc er freedom? That involves human rights and the right to dissent. Thats what you defend your country for. Thats why the West fought communism. Because they suppressed human rights. Thats why we fight
fundemental Islam. Because they respect no human rights. You mate, are a Nazi. An enemy of freedom.
@SavageDoc45b Does that include the army officer cadet moving between classes?sorry chum, you want to fight against totalitarian communist regimes you gotta be better than them.shooting teenage girls is for cowards and faggots. They were not men. The guys in Vietnam were men. These were rear echelon motherfuckers jerking themselves off cos they blew away some little blond. If you agree with that you are not a man.
@SavageDoc45b Now you are just being silly. You are pumping yourself up to look like a big man. Blustering and acting all rightwing and redneck like some stereotype with a caterpillar cap. Yeehar! If it was your daughter of course, it would be a different matter. And of course the reason the US failed in Vietnam was the press, after selling more newspapers and TV shows in the good old capitalist way, screwed it all up after Tet, which the US forces won!
@SavageDoc45b Trolling? Thats the pot calling the kettle black! And the casualties at Dresden and Hiroshima were enemy civilians you clod. Its when you start killing you own you are guarenteed to lose. Kent state turned more Americans against the war than 50,000 casualties on the battlefield. You would make a fantastic general. For a losing army.
So killing unarmed civilians IS justifiable, we just disagree on the details, thanks. I don't agree that pinko-commie hippies are my own. If 2 'innocents' (assuming one buys the story that two of the four had nothing to do with the riot) must die for every two hippies slain... meh.
The Union suppressed draft riots in New York with bayonet and grape shot, how many unarmed teen age girls died in that do you think, hippy?
@SavageDoc45b Dude, I aint no hippie. I just think you should fight a war like a professional, not like some amateur. You kill four kids at home, you lose the war. Sounding off like a redneck stereotype aint gonna change that. It was people like you who lost Vietnam. Because you views are foolish and strategically disasterous.
@SavageDoc45b Its now the same situation. The US and the west gets attacked by Al Quieda. Evil savage bastards. But good ol' boy George W. Is the president. And fucks up in Iraq and Afghanistan. Cos he's a dumb redneck out of his depth. Now the fundamentalists are stronger. Rednecks make shit generals. They are losers. You are a loser. Your views lose wars. Cos you'd rather shoot teenage girls at home than run the war properly.Shmuck.
@SavageDoc45b You shoot some unarmed chick, you shit on your flag. You shit on the founding fathers. You shit on everything your country stands for and your troops fought for in WW2.
We were there. My best friend's brother got dinged in Viet Nam and we did not understand why he was there. It was a senseless war and a lot of our brothers were killed there. We did not fight to win. The tragedy was that we fought without the force and the will to win, when we could have prevailed with the right support.
@SavageDoc45b so you're "appalled" that more weren't killed?...or are you just wanting to get a knee jerk reaction off the internet. You wouldn't have been born around 1990 by chance?and raised on video games and horror flicks?
Kent state could repeat itself at anytime in this country(it could be you!)...the powers of govt. will always make their excuses to fit their agenda.War..children..it's just a shot away...it's just a shot away.
@austingunsmoke Yes, it could be me... firing on treasonous moonbats. Hippies and other pacifist scum were objectively pro-Communist and are pro-Jihad today. The score was four, should have been more! Let's use machineguns next time, fewer will get away. The cost of freedom is dead bodies - deal with it.
@SavageDoc45b wow,a "whack" job w/full blinders on."Deal with it" just makes me laugh at the level of mind I'm communicating with here.Dude,U don't really bother me but rather "amaze" me that there R thick heads like U.OK,it could be your"Kids"?Still no feelings man?U R so extreme it's Neanderthal.Well,I won't argue w/a moron so comment away.
Kent State shows what happens when Govt. gets scared and loses control of itself like a drunken fool,a drunk w/real Army men to play with. It's sad.STAND!
@SavageDoc45b WOW. You think kids getting SHOT at for no reason is funny? thats fucking SICK what if that was you? would you think it's funny then?! Thoughs kids were protesting PEACEFULY and they had the national guard came in and fired what was is 63 or 64 bullets or something like that in 13 seconds and for what reason?...Thats right Their was no fucking reason. Heck I wasn't born in that time period but damn I not out of touch with reality wich obviously you are! That could have been my dad!
@SavageDoc45b Man, you are a sick puppy. I don't know how old you are but it is because of the "treasonous moonbats" as you call them, that you, or your sons and daughters aren't yanked out of their homes at 18 to be drafted into a war across the world. Geeze man, what's wrong with you.
@austingunsmoke SavageDoc has to be a kid who knows nothing and has no clue why he has the rights he has today - simple as that. Passive entertainment like vid-games and such have bred an entire generation of no-nothing, do-nothing except criticize and sit back little twerps.
Kent State was a tragedy, but newsworthy because white kids died. Jackson State was ignored because only black kids died. I grew up in the south in the 50's, I know about "Whites Only" restrooms, drinking fountains and restaurants. I also know that we ignore at our peril, the message of those who originally settled this continent. Re-connect with your mother, your power lies in what you can accomplish without coercion. peace
@rwoods1220 yes, the information is now available for research on the web... my point was that the Jackson State killings were not as widely reported in the media at the time as were the killings at Kent State... for the reason stated. The fact is that, in this nation, if you vigorously exercise your first amendment rights, or if you're near someone who does, the government may terminate your right to vote... permanently!
Journalists and such divide it all up later but at the time radicals and stoners were just two aspects oof the same thing and I'm sure even the non-stoner radicals felt that too.(whatever you want to call us) were the sea that the revolutionaries swam through. Angela Davis was welcome everywhere.
@GeorgeVreelandHill Typical. Blame the 4 unarmed people who got shot (One of whom was in the ROTC) who were unaffiliated with the havoc of the previous days. I don't condone burning the National Guard building but for christ's sake, listen to the National Guardsmen that admitted that they were not in a threatening situation at all. Who were Guard the protecting? And how do you figure you can kill someone who sets fire to something on your property? Some delusional form of self-defense?
@GeorgeVreelandHill One increasing characteristic about this and other demonstrations in the '69-'70 time period is that many of the people there were not true activists like in the mid 60s but just rioters looking to make trouble...and increased property damage was showing this...true activists realized this soon after Kent State and stopped demonstrating as much because they realized that it was counter productive..I guess that's when they decided to go to law school & work within they system.
first off not one damn hippie ever got shot at it was the radicals that put up the resistance the hippies hung around smokin weed the radicals came wearing helmets and shoulder pads and the blame for any and all deaths belong to thoses who support war if america never invaded vietnam pot pot would have never happened take a bull for a walk in a china store you own what he breaks
Stupid hippies brought this on themselves. When are they going to learn that gathering outside and protesting isn't going to change anything. The government will do what they want.
Thank you! Enough with all of these faggots touting these no good pot smoking clowns as heroes and martyrs. They didn't get shot at once in their fucking lives before they burned down that ROTC building. It served them right to get a taste of what the soldiers on the front lines stood up to every goddamn hour in 'Nam and if they died, oh fucking well, so did people in 'Nam.
@jroberts7387 funny you say that cuase it did ghange things all those protest played a big part in pulling out of that war. "The government will do what they want" thats ONLY if the people let them.
Nixon's swatiska hasn't been eliminated the only thing different is some of the players. Fascism is here . Never forget the injured and 4 that died in Ohio that dreadful shameful day in Our Country.
Watch ~ 911 coincidences by Nufffrespect, the Arrivals by noreaga
Fall of the Republic then Listen to Ron Paul and how to save our Republic.
Obama is not the Hope . He is leading us into more war and killing.
@Souls4Freedom Oh, yeah. We're definitely in a fascist country. Especially when they let you go on a public forum and criticize your country. That's definitely fascism. Oh, and the fact that they allow you to watch this video. Yeah, that's fascist too. You're retarded. Plain and Simple.
@Master0Shake don't you get they were shot because they were protesting. Freedom of speech was killed that day. Get your head out of the dark place it seems to be stuck in and begin to really look around.
@Souls4Freedom Then blame the soldiers who were quick to pull the trigger. Don't go calling America a Fascist State. Freedom of speech wasn't killed, we still have it. So you get your head out of your ass.
In the words of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, "members of the U.S. antiwar movement wound up being involved in the betrayal of Far Eastern nations, in a genocide and in the suffering today imposed on 30 million people there. Do those convinced pacifists hear the moans coming from there?"
First, Isn't a bit disingenuos to blame the protests against one repressive regime--the USA-- for the actions of another repressive regime--the Soviet Union?
Essentially he was miffed because the US capitulated in Viet Nam. You tell me which is worse, killing millions with American bombs or killing millions with Communist bombs?
I am against war. I have always been against all war. I am more against this 'War on Terrorism' -- you can't realistically have a war with a *concept* -- than I was against the Viet Nam War, which was wholly unjustified.
That said, I always have, and always will SUPPORT the TROOPS, and the VETS, (regardless of nationality), who risk their life, limb and sanity at their governments' orders.
US terrorism is nothing new. Look at the history of native americans, black people and other non whites in this country. It looks to me like the students are being terrorized for standing up for their rights. When this was going on Martin Luther King was peacefully demonstrating for the rights of black people not to be terrorized. The national guard had to protect the black children attending segragated schools from homegrown terrorists. We still have them sleeping in our midst!
@christinegoetz This country will never be clear of racism and hatred as long as we label things like the Black Entertainment Channel (BET), Miss Black America & etc. That needs to stop. We have a black president now. That's what pisses off the KKK and all other groups of racist white people. White people look like the minorities now. There's nothing labeled 'white'. When are we ever going to be an equal country? I guess never
Whose definition of 'freedom' do we use? Who suffers the 'cost'?
I'm a Cold War baby. The definition of 'Free' was 'Under US influence, as opposed to USSR or PRC influence'.
The cost? Since no war since the Civil War has been fought (is still being...) on US soil, it is nice that the troops can go home, damaged, posty, wounded, but they *have* homes to go to.
What about the countries we (UK are guilty too) are 'freeing'? When do their tours of duty end? Where do they go, after?
Keep in mind that the US Armed forces in Viet Nam had withdrawn from the country en-masse earlier. Many people think the NVA had the US Army on the run and pushed them into the sea. It did not happen.
Amazing footage~ Sending chills up and down my spine...The world needs to remember those pivotal events with pride and heads up, and embrace those young beautiful people who are our fathers by now, and who had left us their legacy of peace, love and freedom. We salute them!
the us militias have been killing civilians since the early 19th century. Strikers, protestors, all have been killed on orders of government right in the usa.
During the Vietnam War, if I had been drafted I wouldn't have gone. But I never cut down the people who made the choice to go. When faced with forced enlistment or going to prison, it's a highly personal choice. Every person gave a great deal of thought to that choice.
AC, did you ever face that choice? What was your draft number? Did you ever stand in the hall of your high school comparing draft numbers with your buddies?
AC, those protesters WERE fighting for their country and they gave their lives for it. It will never be known just what impact the protests really had, but at least they stood up and fought for what they believed in. A person can rarely know what is really right or wrong, but blindly following a government is not now, nor has it ever been the path to freedom.
serves them right, i would have arrested all protesters who were bad mouthing the boys fighting for their country, all protesters would have been arrested for un-american activities and charge with being supporters of communist
Hell might as well move to the Soviet Union or China. If we had you in charge there would be no difference. Good thing we can voice our opinion when we disagree with our government. And oh by the way, did the dominoes fall?
@RMcVey461 Yes, two dominoes fell, Cambodia and Laos. The transitions were brutal and culturally destructive and some historians believe without the resistance put up by the United States in Vietnam similar communist regime changes would have occurred all the way into Indonesia.
And other historians have documentary proof that the USA knew about the Khmer Rouge (a genocidal group in Cambodia, who were not so much 'communist', as fascist) and supported them.
In fact, the USA was desperate to get out of SE Asia, until the Tonkin Gulf Incident, which turned out to be a sonar blip. What a *good* reason to waste so many lives for so many years, all to no purpose whatsoever. It might have been a dolphin.
Nobody learnt anything from the Viet Nam War, except PTSD.
@Stannage17 That"s true. Even after the war as over, even as late as the '90's I think, the U.S. prevented Cambodia from passing a law saying that leaders of the Kymer Rouge coould not hold public office in Cambodia.
AC you should learn a little about history. these people were also petitioning about the forced enlisting of young americans into a war that was based on elimination of a new free governement in a country which had no threat to the US. These protesters wanted american men to live. the were pro american. how can you call yourself free if you are forced into war with a huge chance of death. supporting communism was never an issue. it was sad, but thats american foreign policy i suppose.
@WhenYouveGoneGuru, You can argue that position. I personally believe we sucked them into the conflict and lost them and Vietnam. Had we not supported the recolonization of countries folowing WWII Vietnam would still be what it is today.with less brutality than took place following more than 20 years of war.
"The record stands: No colonial war has yet been lost by a colonial people once entered into." The War of the Flea, Robert Taber. I have seen nothing that tells me Vitenam was anything more than a colonial people seeking control of their own country.
the opinion of similar comunist regimes continuing through to indonesia is a hypertetical arguement which is not worth the lives of millions of innocents. also these comunist countries are not all cut from one cloth. i feel that americas superiority complex has led them to dehumanize non americans to a certain extent, percieving everything alien as a threat and in turn leading them into war.
I do agree with RMcVey461 on the colonial issue. interesting remark.

protesting doesn't accomplish shit. you just get thrown in jail or get shot. here in L.A. during the may day melee, protesters, students, women and children even reporters got their asses beat or shot with bean bags or rubber bullets. that's why the fuck with protesting. you may be down for the cause but where does it really get you?
derirobbie 8 months ago

@WolfEchoes The Democratic Nat'l Convention was held in Chicago & the "riots" that resulted were in 1968. Kent State massacre was May, 1970. The US Embassy in Saigon was abandoned in April, 1975.

@2656music2656 May 4, 1970. See Wikepedia

Look at whats going on today.. it's sad.

@SavageDoc45b Trolling? Thats the pot calling the kettle black! And the casualties at Dresden and Hiroshima were enemy civilians you clod. So killing unarmed civilians IS justifiable, we just disagree on the details, thanks. I don't agree that pinko-commie hippies are my own. If 2 'innocents' (assuming one buys the story that two of the four had nothing to do with the riot) must die for every two hippies slain... meh.

Re-connect with your mother, your power lies in what you can accomplish without coercion. peace

Dukegrievousangel 1 year ago
@GeorgeVreelandHill One increasing characteristic about this and other demonstrations in the '69-'70 time period is that many of the people there were not true activists like in the mid 60s but just rioters looking to make trouble...and increased property damage was showing this...true activists realized this soon after Kent State and stopped demonstrating as much because they realized that it was counter productive..I guess that's when they decided to go to law school & work within they system.

To be absolutely clear, I must say this:
I am against war. I have always been against all war. I am more against this 'War on Terrorism' -- you can't realistically have a war with a *concept* -- than I was against the Viet Nam War, which was wholly unjustified.
That said, I always have, and always will SUPPORT the TROOPS, and the VETS, (regardless of nationality), who risk their life, limb and sanity at their governments' orders.
SUPPORT OUR FORCES. BRING THEM HOME!

@Stannage17

I guess never

freedom does come with a cost
No1pearljamfan 2 years ago
Whose definition of 'freedom' do we use? Who suffers the 'cost'?
I'm a Cold War baby. The definition of 'Free' was 'Under US influence, as opposed to USSR or PRC influence'.
The cost? Since no war since the Civil War has been fought (is still being...) on US soil, it is nice that the troops can go home, damaged, posty, wounded, but they *have* homes to go to.
What about the countries we (UK are guilty too) are 'freeing'? When do their tours of duty end? Where do they go, after?

...."the final days of that US occupation."

My draft number was 11, I had NO choice....praise the ones who went
sirjayny 2 years ago

Binabik56 2 years ago
serves them right, i would have arrested all protesters who were bad mouthing the boys fighting for their country, all protesters would have been arrested for un-american activities and charge with being supporters of communist

Hell might as well move to the Soviet Union or China. If we had you in charge there would be no difference. Good thing we can voice our opinion when we disagree with our government. And oh by the way, did the dominoes fall?
RMcVey461 2 years ago

Stannage17 2 years ago
@Stannage17 That"s true. Even after the war as over, even as late as the '90's I think, the U.S. prevented Cambodia from passing a law saying that leaders of the Kymer Rouge coould not hold public office in Cambodia.

AC you should learn a little about history. these people were also petitioning about the forced enlisting of young americans into a war that was based on elimination of a new free governement in a country which had no threat to the US. These protesters wanted american men to live. the were pro american. how can you call yourself free if you are forced into war with a huge chance of death. supporting communism was never an issue. it was sad, but thats american foreign policy i suppose.
blacker1977 2 years ago 2
@WhenYouveGoneGuru, You can argue that position. I personally believe we sucked them into the conflict and lost them and Vietnam. Had we not supported the recolonization of countries folowing WWII Vietnam would still be what it is today.with less brutality than took place following more than 20 years of war.
RMcVey461 2 years ago
"The record stands: No colonial war has yet been lost by a colonial people once entered into." The War of the Flea, Robert Taber. I have seen nothing that tells me Vitenam was anything more than a colonial people seeking control of their own country.
RMcVey461 2 years ago
the opinion of similar comunist regimes continuing through to indonesia is a hypertetical arguement which is not worth the lives of millions of innocents. also these comunist countries are not all cut from one cloth. i feel that americas superiority complex has led them to dehumanize non americans to a certain extent, percieving everything alien as a threat and in turn leading them into war.
I do agree with RMcVey461 on the colonial issue. interesting remark.
