  • I heard "in a Big Country" when was 15 years old.1985 or 1986, I forget .

I was just a kid in the state of Wisconsin. I went right out and bought the tape. (That's what is was back then.) The tape of the Crossing grew on me. Today, in the year 2011, my iPod is loaded with BC. I was devistated to learn that Stuart took his life. The drums, vocals, and all around sound of BC is sublime.

BC is one of my personal all time favorite bands Thanks BC for bringing a smile and groove into my day!

  • THE "R&B" OF TODAY SEEMS SOO LAME COMPARED TO TRACKS LIKE THIS! STUART WAS A FUCKING LEGEND! THERE IS NO IFF'S OR BUTT'S! HE WAS CLASSED AS THE "HENDRIX OF SCOTLAND" A TRUE GENTLEMAN! GOD BLESS SCOTLAND & GOD BLESS STUART!!!

  • Actually, the Barras gig was the final gig in Britain - they played a far East tour after this.

They also opened for the Stones and the Who in the 90s; in my view the Stones and the Who should have been opening for them. A unique sound and quite sensational live.

  • One of the best gigs I ever went to at Salford University in 1987. Was pissed near the front and was on my mate's shoulders singing all the numbers apart from 2,3,4 in the chorus with Stu's full approval. Also sang 'Give us drink in our time!' near the end of an exhausting, exhilarating gig with a smiling acknowledgment from the man. You just don't get nights like this anymore.

  • best band i ever and ever saw again, BG, MEANS ALL MY LIFE IN THATS TWO WORDS, tk Stu love U were u are.

  • Just got back from Glasgow, hello big man RIP

  • saw big country yesterday, they had some other famous singer on, i forgot hes name, but they were so amazing, Rip big man

  • i was 15 when the band touched my heart....flame of the west blew me away....Stuart Adamson...my musical hero!! for ever in my hear and soul...BIG COUNTRY ROCKS!

  • our guys were amazin in concert,we will neva 4get you Stu.........

  • I have shivers just watching this and I'm only just getting the Big Country magic recently aged 23 after years of my scottish family talking about them being good now I see what they meant. The Barrowland vids from 1983 are simply amazing.

  • This song touches my very soul. What a tragic loss.Stuart you,ve left a space that can never be filled.RIP

  • first band i seen live my dad took me to the playhouse in edinburgh when i was 13 it is one of my best childhood memorys

  • Captures why they were an excellent band. Stuart RIP.

  • excelent really brings me back to being a teenager it was'nt all bad when you have big couuntry

  • amazing to watch this.. brings tears.. RIP Stuart

  • " We're the big country n we're fae all over the fucking place"

    No us or them,just us.

  • long story but the day after Stuart died I was on a pub crawl in Liverpool ...we went in a low brow boozer called the Star ..great rock jukebox ..anyways it was a busy Saturday afternoon with lots of chatter ..then one guy stepped up and played "Chance" ..the whole place fell quiet ...for 3 or 4 minutes the only sound was Big Country ...a surreal moment ..but so so glorious

  • where was this taken?? please help.

  • Glasgow

  • what an amazing, underrated talent. RIP stuart.

  • @wasted6666666666 totally agree they were the best live band i ever saw

  • I have seen lots of headliner music in my day..police, blondie ,bryan adams, Jam, Pretenders,UB40, bowie more recently Stereophonics, Killers, Snow patrol and all were excellent ..but Big Country live was easlily the best dont ask me why ..i dunno ...it just was

  • @Yaldarra Bryan Adams? lol

  • definately the best band ive ever seen live and ive seen them 3 times and was introduced to there fantastic music by janis long who used to work as a dj for radio 1 and her exact words were, this is the best band shes ever seen live and my god were this womans words so true, long live BIG COUNTRY and may the fantastic stuart adamson live in peace.

  • I've always admired how Stuart treated his fans. I'm 16, so sadly I never saw them in concert...but I watch all the live vids and Stuart treats his fans better than any other singer I've ever seen. I love that he encourages them to sing along and I got a warm feeling all over when I saw him leaving the stage to go down and touch everyone, etc. Wish I could have seen them live. RIP STUART.

  • @Torikramone Nice comments and so very true. It was never 'us and them' with Stuart.. he genuinely loved the fans and his craft. I hope that he realised that he wasn't just loved as an artist, but people loved him as a person. Everyone did. There aren't many 'men of the people' left on earth these days. And this guy was the best. I haven't been able to watch any of this since his passing. And it's nice too.. but it's upsetting. Rest In Peace Sir. x

  • wow, even without stuart they are really great....but, stuart lives forever

  • saw them in leeds on their final fling tour fantastic night they were amazing they were supported by the alarm who blew the pa which took 45 mins to repair stu and the lads tho were well worth waiting for very sadly missed

  • So good so sad so Stuart so gone so forever

  • this song makes me cry so much. Favourite BC song -I was lucky enough to see them twice.

  • saw them in sea point salthill someone threw a can at stuart they stopped playing and stuart says are you man enough to put your hand up eejit did swarmed by bouncers and carried out amazing what tennants could do in the 80's smashing concert

  • I was very very lucky to have seen this band live once... and i still say one of the best live shows i ever saw ...and I saw lotsa big names concerts

Live long in them 13 valleys ..we miss you.

  • Stuart saying his goodbyes Very poignant

  • pure class, with no ego.

  • I remember listening to this song live on radio lying on my bed and crying. No sadness......just joy to be lucky to be there and enjoying the music. Is it me or has music lost it??

  • I know just what you mean about this song! Na it's not lost it at all - youv'e just gotta look harder thats all - there's some truly brilliant musicians on here!

  • music HAS lost it, and I've cried several times to this song just out of joy that such a great song was created and that it touches my heart so much.

  • Wow ive cried for Stuart and the loss of his music ..but didnt think his music touched younger people as well, I was lucky enough to have seen them , Just once..But it it was the best concert of my life and I have seen lots of hedliners in my time...respect to you

  • @Torikramone AMEN TO YOUR COMMENT ABOUT MUSIC/BIG COUNTRY/THIS GREAT TUNE CALLED CHANCE-------------I COULCN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I'VE FOUIND MYSELF HUMMING THIS SONG WHILE STUART'S VOICE AND THAT GREAT SOARING GUITAR RIFF STIRS MY SOUL!!!

  • my beloved song from Stu- so sad that there was no chance for himself ...

  • in tears :__(

  • fantastic!(´・ω・`)

  • "You played chance with a lifetimes romance"...........it doesn't get any better than that!!!

  • awsome, but I'd sure like to see the studio version of this aswell

  • ENORME!!!!

  • The greatest

  • Long live Big Country,RIP Stuart"WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DO THIS" Best band I ever saw live.

  • i agree ..this was best band i ever saw live and i seen a lot..

  • good live, saw them 84 passed out twice!!! and again in 86, 89

  • I know; stuff happens and one tries to make sense of it all and the chaos controls, all along. That said: take it all for what it is: life in a big country. I am willing to take that, but how about you? Peace friend...says the man from the Land of Five Great Lakes and who took a chance on life and found.....

  • yeh 14 times live! the best!! luv & miss stu xx

  • happy xmas big country fanz

  • you are one dangerous darling Danny!

  • One of my favourite songs from my favourite group. The first album i ever bought was The Crossing in 1983 when I was thirteen!Still can't believe Stuart isn't here.

  • Mark Brzezicki is our Neil Peart. Know what I mean?

  • I always thought Neil Peart was Canada's Mark Brzezicki....

  • Agreed! Mark Brzezicki can play it all and put it in a tune. Peart is technically good but self indulgent beyond belief. MB almost makes the drums sing in a way Jeff Porcaro did. Brzezicki vs Peart - no contest dude!

  • what a great track. Always brilliant..always great crowd participation. Saw them London Town and Country cluB x 2, Swansea Singleton Park, Cardiff St Davids, Newport Centre, Bristol Anson Rooms Always exceptional

    Dave Howells and Julie

  • Thank you Big Country...........

  • There's magic in that band- if heaven was a place on earth well big country at barrowlands would be right there...

  • Loved them. Walkman full-blast "The Crossing" on the Edinburgh-London train 1983.

  • agree 200% man, talking about Bruce, I just got my hands on "without the aid of a safety net" DVD and during the final track Brucey shows some of his considerable guitar skills, shit those boys have great sense of humour also, they took themselves too seriously like a many other bands that I wont mention here, stayalive mate.

  • Exactly correct. U2. There. I said it.

  • Many thanks for this posting!

My favourite track of all and he held my hand at a concert when I cried...miss him!

  • how come the best always leave us early? god rest big man

  • watching the final fling dvd and seeing this track, with stuart meeting the front row seats, when that guy jumps up and hugs him and he gives that girl a kiss. many many other so called stars would have run from that or the minders would have pushed them away. Says so much about the guy, listen to the words and watch that, if your eyes dont sweat check your fucking chest and confirm that a heart is in their, cheers for posting this friend.

  • i agree with everything u say i sing this on kareoke n break dwn everytime a truly great man thanx for ur comment :) god bless the wee man ! heart of a lion

  • nice comments m8 totaly agree god bless you amazing

  • Watching Stuart with the crowd did make my eyes fill up. I saw them at Birmingham Odeon in the 80's and when i jumped on stage stuart was happy for me to sing and dance with him but a burly bouncer spoilt it and threw me back in the crowd. He still had time to shake my hand as i was led away, a moment i shall never forget. cheers Simon

  • My eyes are certainly sweating..........great words buddy!

  • Excellent tune excellent band.

  • when you feel so low, listen to this.the mans a genius

  • BIG BAND! BIG MUSIC! BIG PEOPLE! BIG COUNTRYYYYY Yeah!!!!

  • Sheer class!!!!!!!!!! Love this song, love this band. The best live act I've ever seen by miles.

  • Fantastico Stu!!!

  • Excllent live band. Best gig ever at Salford University in 1987? Passionate band with excellent rapport with their crowd. Definitely best gig ever.

  • Saw Big Country at Birmingham NEC in 1986 - £8 a ticket, and got 2 hrs 40 minutes of total noise and passion. Best concert I ever saw, capped with a great encore version of "Honky Tonk Women"

  • Man I was there as well........what a gig. 10 mins of Chance lited the fuckin roof. BEST GIG EVER. Stuart RIP.

  • If you want to buy it go to the big country website, shop and order it! I also recommend without the aid of a safety net, another stunning gig. But then I love Big Country so I am biased. If you like them then go and see the rest of Big Country live next time they are in town - they can't replace Stuart but they are still great as a trio.

  • when was this? and how old was stuart here?

  • Just simply brilliant ...such a sad loss .....it sends chills down the spine just to see how good Big Country really were ....

  • great band saw them live in london back in 1984

Salutations d'Ecosse.
