Two years later, I managed to make it work defeating this guy with all three characters:

Cloud lvl 81, Cid lvl 79, Brt lvl 78.

Same set-up as above, but Apoc sword for Cloud (3X growth), used 2x Hero drinks off the bat. Beat the hell out of him with Hades/KotR x7, W-Item Turbo Ether+whatever(Cloud) then on the last sequence, Hades+ Phoenix (revive), then Hades KotR + Mime Cid and Brt. Load Cid and Brt with tons of materia for massive growth.

Very satisfying :)

In episode 110 your mime materia has 48774 AP and you got 50000 more from emerald. Shouldn't it be almost mastered in this video? Instead, its 48,774 still. :-P

@PKDraven2 There is no prize as far as I'm concerned. The only reward is your own sense of fulfilment. The master materia is one of the best rewards you could possibly get, but the gold chocobo is beyond useless. You would need to have a gold chocobo by then to waste the Weapons. If you wasted them without KOTR then you have no need for a gold chocobo. They may as well have left it without a reward at all.

1. It makes him more challenging

2. I defeated him without paralyzing him even once

The tentacles will attack you randomly. My favorite strategy is to do Sneak Attack- Kotr followed up by counter-mime, counter-mime, counter-mime, counter mime, ect

The tentacles are able to stop you from running, deal status effects,and take a percentage off of your health or mp.

They actually can't kill you unless you've been poisoned or you get hit by ruby weapon. Also you could've learned Shadow Flare from Ruby weapon.

I basically used your same strategy except I had final attack+phoenix and i let him kill cloud so that phoenix would revive us and then started the hades KOTR hp absorb mp turbo combo, i had one extra mime that grew from killing emerald and the master command so i kept everyone else miming that. I like having my party alive i guess.

On top of the paralysis he gets from Hades, Ruby Weapon also gets Slow. So that alone is funny.

I didn't know about any of the strategies people use on the two "super" Weapons, I basically winged it and it worked. Doing it THAT way, they actually ARE very difficult. I mean -very- difficult, lol. Nice work making such short work of both Weapons =)

The watch words for this Weapon fight being "Slow" and "Grind" as rightly said it is the easiest optional boss, I struggled more with the random monsters on the underwater plane...

Okay, so, it is easy with paralysis, but... without it? We didn't get to see much but Ruby Flame almost kills you, Ultima can't be much better, etc. Maybe with ridiculous grinding but else, paralysis is about the only way to beat him. Anyway, good job even if there was not that much to it, sadly.

Also, it seems Emerald battle isn't available for some reason. It'd be great if you could this somehow, HC. If not... too bad, I guess.

Fun fact: If you take that Chocobo to Gold saucer to race he is the most god aweful piece of crap you'll ever see!!!! Try it just for fun you'll see.

@swords9023 Yeah, that's because chocobos inherit stats from their parents and grandparents. Since that Gold Chocobo came from nowhere, it has no stats to inherit, so it's really bad at first.

you dont need kotr or mime to defeat emerald weapon. use cloud cid and yuffie and use there ultimite limit breaks and yuffies doom of the living. only materia i used was an hp plus in each and an enemy skill for big guard. thats it. it will only hit u w 1111 hp for every materia u equip on each player so max ur hp out at 9999 and put 2 matrias in each person. then when it hits u with its air tram attack it will do 2222hp damage putting your entire party on lucky 7s.

Also going of what HC said. Not only should bosses be immune to all status ailments, but so should super bossess period. They should also have good rewards unlike Omega Weapon in Final Fantasy 8. Thats one thing they did right with Emerald and Ruby Weapon in this game at least then items can be traded so you get good things even though you really don't need them.

that Gold Chocobo reward is a fuckin joke. They give you it right when you DON'T need it.

Two things though show that they didn't intend Ruby to be as hard as Emerald:

a) Ruby gives less exp/ap

b) the reward you get is pointless

however, with Emerald:

a) gives most exp/ap out of anything in the game

b) the reward is AWESOME

Emerald IS the toughest boss in the game.

What works better than the mp turbo is the quadra magic with w-summon, you can get up to 8 summons in one character.

I beat him the first time i played using the 777 life trick with Cloud.

Cheapest and easiest way I know that requires 0 grinding and no golden Chocobo is to abuse W-item glitch and get yourself a bunch of Dazers (item that para) and Elixirs. Then fill up the rest of the materia slots of HP plus (lvl 1 that you buy) so you have enough HP to survive attacks.

Then you Dazer+Elixir in one turn, and 2x Cut in the next turn.

Takes awhile to kill him, but way less time then breeding and racing Chocobos to get kotr/mime.

Ruby Weapon can inflict Gradual Petrify, but that's the only status ailment I remember. I remember it because he broke my Knights of the Round Spamming Bonanza into tiny little pieces with it.

The fun thing about the Master Materia you get from Emerald Weapon is, once you've gotten that particular set, you've more or less eliminated one of the only two reasons you'll ever actually need them.

I wish I'd left the Weapons alive in my current file. I'm just about finished maxing all my characters and the "important" Materia out (KotR is the only materia left to Master--only 36 more Magic Pots to go!), and I have nothing else to beat up except that joke of a final boss.

Ruby would be hardest, but it's to easy to get rid of the negative thing about him and exploit the positive ones.

And, unfortunately, his reward is only good if you don't have copious amounts of time, which makes the battle harder.

Unfortunately, there was no way for me to modify your plan to keep my other characters alive. But since Ruby never touches you, I loaded Cloud up with Materia that would level up with 50,000 or less AP.

Nothing better than seeing 7-8 materia level up/master in one shot.

Used Mystile + Enhance Sword, all slots full.

Didn't bother with Hero Drinks either.

Getting 2 KOTRs makes this PATHETIC, since you can link HP absorb to one and MP absorb to the other...

The Gold Chocobo he gives you has CRAP stats, since it didn't get to inherit stats from generations of Chocobos you trained.

Even if you didn't have KOTR yet, this chocobo isn't really worth it since your own raised Gold Chocobo will be superior for racing.

HC, i beat ruby with w-summon, Master Summon, counter=mime x6, lvl 89, no paralysis, cloud only, and when ruby tried to hit me with ultima the second time it fuckin missed!!!! but i didnt have any speicak armor or accessory that protected from it, considering out of the 6 times hit hit me with it only ONE missed. on vhs tape (waiting to get a dazzle so i can put it on youtube)
