One thing that always surprises me is how natural they move with that complicated coreography while singing at the same time. Especially Mary. Looks like second nature to her but they must have work hours to achieve that effect.

I agree with all the comments here. Mary was right at her peak during this appearance. Wow. Just something. Mary knew her role with the group; and she managed herself with Barry Gordy and Diana. As such, she enjoyed a long and financially successful career. Smart.

@smashingtimemod You are right. Mary is considered one of the most beautiful women of her generation. She was a doll. I remember when I saw them in Chicago at the Opera House in 1968, I was sitting on the second row front and I kept thinking: "Wow, the one on the right is a dynamo but too skinny; the one on left is sooo cute but kind of big; the one in the middle is perfection, face, body and personality. (I was 10 years old and didn't know their names)

Fabulous performance! There's one thing that always kinda confused me, that was Diana's insistence on smiling no matter what she was singing. "Stop! In the Name of Love" is such a sad song, but she's just smiling away. :) Still all three sound amazing. I must admit, I absolutely LOVE how Diana is interrupted by huge applause for Mary and Cindy. :) I don't mind the hiccup thing, I think it suits her.

I love this. I remember this. Do you have the beginning where they sing the title song "T.C.B" if you do can you post it, plus, where did you get this would love a copy. One of the greatest female groups. They had it all especially for the era. Remember black women were not on the map for beauty and glamour, the Supremes proved they 'black women" could do it. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Florence Ballard was the one who always said, "Honey, we is terrific". This is a wonderful video. I remember staying up late (for a 6 year old) to watch this. I don't think I stayed awake through the whole show but I loved, really loved, those gowns. It was a wonderful time.

Check out the arms thrown in the air after Stop in the name of love. People think Diana alone always through her arms in front of the other members. Not true,check out 1:04-7 they all equally raise their arms in triumph..a move totally shared by the entire group. diana is still doing the gesture. folks think its her Ego which she does have(we got one)..jus wish folks would remember she was jus as much a supreme and still as she is diana ross.her an mary are the supremes.

Diana, Mary & Cindy were the bomb. True talent. As a Latina I hope my Black Brothers and sisters recognize what the Supremes & Tempatations did for Black music & Entertainment. In the troubled and turbulent 60's they managed to get on TV, their own show and kicked butt. To date nobody has done a TV show liked this with all that talent. Diana, like her or not paved the way for all women black or white. She had looks, style, talent, could sing, dance & act. The Temps, harmony & soul. Greatest!

i think on all these TCB clips you can really hear Diana's voice! she really can sing i think, i mean i know she can sing, but her voice hs a really qood quality i think in these clips.and great showman ship,too!

You're right. She does it alot. It's her way of sounding 'cutesy wootsey' if you will. In the early days, there were 'adults' around to keep her from doing that and also other annoing things like bugging out her eyes. Later on, she was given more freedom to pretty much do what she wanted. I still like her and the girls anyway!

I remember seeing The Supremes at the Opera House in Chicago and from the time they came out singing I noticed that "hiccup" thing on the lead singer. I couldn't figure out what the hell she was doing but it was great. Later on in the show I "discovered" Mary. I had never seen such a beautiful body, face and stage presence. I was 12 at the time and came out of that theater totally in love.

I know the supremes may never perfom together again but wouldn't it be great if this special was released on dvd and diana and mary and the remaining member of the temptations and perhaps some of the surviving musicians could do the commentary/voice over and give us some details of the filming of this historical event.

@lloydj74 I was 11 or maybe 12 when this came out. i had heard the supremes on the radio but i had never really seen them. i was mesmorised when i watched this on tv. where the heck is the dvd of this special!!! it's american television history for goodness sake!
