My hero as a lad, Pancho was. The one he scored against Liverpool in the 77 FA Cup final was etched into my napper forever, & that raised fist salute, whenever he scored, used to well me up with an immense feeling of splendid chuffedness that is quite indescribable........he was a fucking good egg.
Always loved 'Pancho', this was THE time to be a United supporter, Admiral kits, scarves on the wrist and a heaving Stretford End, fave match ever was the legendary 3-2 win over Sunderland from div 2 in 74, ahhh happy days, fuck the corporate bollocks that football is now
This is still my favourite era of supporting United. A great side, full of characters and of course standing on the stretford end. Lovey collection. When football belonged to the working class and not corperate companies.
Absolutely brillaint stuff. The 2nd division season was my 1st following United and have also been looking for the Wolves FA Cup replay from 76.My two brothers went to that game,I was too young apparently :)
Great to see stuff from Docherty's '70s sides. And a few glimpses of the fabled travelling support that followed them.
Any more of the Wolves clip which I'm guessing was the 6th round FA cup replay that Utd won 3-2 after being 2-0 down? I've been trying to track that down for years.
@tain36 right 15 mins to go 2-0 down ... then B Greenhoff, Pearson ... and I think McIlroy in extra-time to win 3-2 ... can still hear Hugh Johns: "McIlroy- that'll do !!!"
PS Do you remember the first game 1-1 at OT Gerry Daly scored ... ??
@Torowe1 i can't believe someone else remembers that line, when something's just gone well i still give it a "mcilroy, that'll do" in a (crackly) hugh johns voice, at times. ( he's actually still going, he was on MOTD or some champs league prog last year). that was on the tv highlights, the live game i listened to at my mate's on the radio, faces like pall bearer's at 2-0 down, jumping around like lunatics when we equalised and for the winner.
@aherdofwildebeest NOTHING could beat the atmosphere at Hillsborough for the Semi though ..... Double-chasing United facing Double-chasing-all-powerful-reigning-champions Derby County ..... 55,000 and a couple of Gordon Hill specials !!
@Torowe1 united had a bit of a rep for last gasp comebacks around that time, another was at qpr, 2-0 down and gordon hill scored 2 goals in the last 2 minutes - can't find that though, someone tell me it happened! ,
@aherdofwildebeest actually I recall that reputation was more in the 78-79 season ..... that was when we were known as "Last Minute United" .... and Ole GS was nowhere to be seen !!
@cajjer especially that FAC QF Replay at Wolves ... 2-0 down with about 15(?) mins left .... up steps Pancho, Brian G and "McIlroy - that'll do" - Hugh Johns ....
Great memories of a great UTD player - amongst several other greats.
One great memory of Pearson - against Derby, he was felled in an off the ball incident that thje cameras missed.
A few minutes later the ball came to Bruce Rioch and Pearson sprinted in and felled hin with a thigh-high "tackle". Brian Moore (commentating) said something like "well that solves the mystery of who fouled Pearson". I wish I could find that clip.
We'll walk a million miles for one of you goals ohhhhhhhh Stuart.

Great stuff.
Stuart Pearson was a hero of mine in my chlldhood (Coppell & Greenhoff also).
United's Admiral kit and Pearson go hand in hand.
i'm amazed you have this footage.
Just brilliant.
