I always called my beagle mix Molly a Bagel: part bassett, part beagle. She was bright too. One of our other pooches was mostly deaf. One day, Molly came down and the other didn't. We told her to go get her. Without missing a beat, she turns around, runs upstairs, then comes back down about 30 seconds later with the other dog following her. Training not needed. LOL
I've noticed beagles don't really understand words, but the way you say them. For example, whenever we tried to get my beagle, Leo, to roll over, my mom always said in a higher pitched voice "Roll over boy" and he did it. But when she didn't say it in that higher tone, he wouldn't.
always remembered when we arrived home after school, our Beagle always run toward us and wants our attention. He gets angry if we don't pay attention; one time i tried to hide behind a door, and he managed to find me hehe...one of reason i love / cherish to have a beagle. I believed he learned a few tricks as well, which when I tap specific at location in the sofa, he jumps in the sofa and goes there.
i trained my beagles to do this as well as twirl around like a ballerina, sit, speak, and shake. never really got the hang of stay though lol or come.
Beagles are hard to train. You must have train her to do that for a very long time and consistently because Beagles' minds tends to wander off a lot. They are considered dogs with the biggest ADD.
@heat4yoass Actuaally they dont take very long to train. Im 12 and i trained mine to do this within a week and we didnt work on it much each day maybe like 10 minutes after school.
@heat4yoass, Watch the videos of my beagle, he's super smart, obedient, and extremely focused at all all times, WITHOUT A LEASH "EVERYWHERE!" No leashes/chokers/prongs/or e-collars, No Gadgets period. Just my 3 y/o (purebred) beagle and I, in public. I can't stand when the uneducated repeat something they heard from some so-called expert, because they're lazy or too "ADD" to train dogs. They give bad info,to feel educated. They're lacking & selfish. Beagles Don't Deserve It. Get Informed.
I took a look and i'm somewhat impressed. I can do that too, but just like your dog, she strays off every once in awhile. You still have to scold your dog from what I've seen on your videos. If you take your dog where there's a lot of activity, i'm pretty sure his ADD will kick in. It's a natural instinct for beagles.
@heat4yoass You know someone just told me toay that I had the best trained dogs they have seen in a long time. However, they also thought that I had to micro manage my beagle far more than my other 2 dogs. I never really noticed that before, til I actually watched my own videos. Of all 3 of my dogs, my beagle is the only one that has to stop and sniff, even if for a second, he is the only one to do it every time. I guess its hard to see your own faults, huh.
It's cool man, we all do. I've been around beagles almost all my life and I know for sure that beagles have an ADD when it comes to their nose. They are stubborn as hell when they pick up a scent. It's not their fault. They're just not like other dogs. They're easy to train as long as you're not around any foreign scents. But beagles are the best dogs in the world. They're never mad or angry. they're always affectionate and loyal.
@heat4yoass yep i have a beagle myself she is so subborn like one time my dog loves my brother over everything in the world even food so my mom took my brother away for a day and so she peaed in my moms bed and even on her side of the bed they are so spiteful that is what i mean and my dog hates my mom my dog loves her but not the best hahahha
@a1b2c3d4e535 I sould have replyed much less defensive. I just hear it so often (I'm a trainer, Obedience/off leash/civil protection/behavior issues/dog sports), people warn others not to get beagles, or were warned not to get them. Like they just can't be trainedor under cntrol. I got my beagle from someone who was going to show him but just couldn't handle him, but I thought he was easy to train. P.S. I don't condone showing dogs for looks, only for sport, agility, obedience, and field trials.
Beagles aren't hard to train, they learn quickly and very good problem solvers. They can just be stubborn sometimes. That's why I love them, they love you and loyal but still have tons of personality and quirks.
Beagles are so smart . Some are a little too smart . Most go to pounds and shelters because they learn how to jump a fence to run and smell everything . Two of mine have gotten hit by cars so they can use their nose . I have a acre yard for them to play in and I take them to my nearby woods everyday for a few hours to smell everything . They still jump the fence . Beagles also know how to get there way by looking at you with those beautiful eyes and cute floppy ears .
beags are easy to train, im 13 and now i have a beagle,10 weeks old when i taught him to sit. after that he learned everything very easily. im training him to agility, at the moment, and he really likes it! course, bagles are very food motivated. but my pup doesn't get lot of treats...
Beagles are easy to train . The thing with beagles is their not really stubborn ,its just the fact that ther sniffers are going all the time . This makes them easily distracted . Like a child with autisim ,you have to find a treat or a toy that they love more than anything else in the world ,and use that to get and their attention and keep them focused on the task you want them to perform .We have Three beagles Momma Daddy and a pup we kept from Freckles last litter .
I never understood why people say they're hard to train. My beagle is the first dog I had who could understand words without needing hand gestures for tricks. They get distracted easily by smells, but the trick is always to use food and good eye contact.
@ooberzombies when you say bang, have them get down to the ground and lay there. then give them a treat. praise them like it's the greatest thing ever. keep doing this. keep doing this. keep doing this. eventually he/she will get the sequence-> 'when i hear BANG, and i go down, i get something awesome'
you have to physically get them down. be gentle with them (not like a vicious circus bastard).. so say 'bang'.. then gently push them down (i likened it to laying a baby to bed) to their side to where they lay down... then praise them. and give em a treat. the treat is a powerful weapon. be consistent and he/she should get it. daisy took 30 minutes in the first day. i think i got lucky. but it seemed automatic ever since. throughout the day and in random times, just play 'bang'.
ya my beagel wouldnt listen he had a scrap with a pittbull but still amazing dogs and yes very stubborn with telling the sumthin like give paw u would have to show him a hot dogg
I just got a beagle puppy a while ago. His name is Bailey.. Taught him this trick this afternoon. lol, it's so cute. He also learned sit, down, speak, sing, shake, stay... and to ring the bell to go outside. I was surprised at how easy it was to train him compared to my last dog.
I used to have a beagle. We taught her tricks and all... but they're pretty stubborn. She'd try to sit, lay down, and speak AT THE SAME TIME instead of bothering to tell the tricks apart. Good dog though.
lol sooooooo cute. playing dead was one of the many tricks my mom wanted me to teach my puppy! it actually isn't that hard to teach as long as they know how 2 roll over. and dogs r never stupid!
@Kasukasu69 No not really I have 3 beagles and they are dumb LOL but only 1 of my dogs can do a trick....... It can sit in its hine legs and that's it lol
I wanted to call my beagle bagel !!

When their puppies they're very easy to train. A little harder when their older because they have a short attention span.
But yeah, they tend to trick you. My DJ doesn't understand commands until I give him incentive...incentive being food.
Food = trick, so they refuse to listen until they see the treat. Too smart for their own good XD.
