Ken squier was the best at calling races, "And Randy lajoie slams into the WAAALLLLL!" he should be in the nascar Hall of Fame one day. And by the way, I was at this race sitting almost directly across from the crash and I'll never forget the sound of him hitting that wall, it sound like a huge cannon went off. He only suffered minor injuries, but it did knock him out. I remember seeing his helmut resting against the window net.
man i was at this race with my dad and uncle, we were sitting in the grandstands adjacent to where he hit the wall. I will never forget the sound when he hit like a cannon. there were people in the infield on top of campers man they were running for cover
@xpn52 i really dont know much about the crash other than seeing it in a nascar magazine. Both of the cars were demolished and it didnt look like either one of them would have survived! sorry i didnt get back sooner

My Dad(Gote Snellman) built this car with Bob Johnson . I love watching this. His Name is on the quarter panel . Kaj and Gote Snellman Double R racing . I went to so many races back then on the Nascar north tour . And Randy did end up winning the championship up there a year or two later.
It's amazing how CBS/TBS could capture perfect replays in 1984 and from 2010 onward we'll still never know what exactly happened to Elliot Sadler at Pocono, thanks to ESPN's shitty coverage. Thanks ESPN.
Ken Squier was a marvelous commentator. One of the best in my book, hands down.
so were people wondering what the hell Daytona was thinking with that wall in 1984? Or did people not really think about it until cars started flying towards it? If we saw that kind of wall today so close to the racing surface I'm pretty sure every fan and driver alike would be hollaring about it. I mean, yeah Pocono has similar angled walls but they are a good distance off the race track... this was in a prime area where cars have always spun to the inside.
"OH, AND IN TROUBLE ITS THE 07 LAJOIE!!! RANDY LAJOIE SLAMMING INTO THE WALL!!!!!! RANDY LAJOIE OUT OF NORWALK, CONNETICUT HAS DESTRYOED HIS AUTOMOBILE!!!!
Does anyone have both Twin 125 races for 1984 as well as the 1982 & 1986 races? I've seen the 1980 & 1981 Twin 125 races. I would love to see these races...Thank you :-)
This isnt the first big crash Lajoie has been in. Back earlier in the years, He and Jim Hurtibuise has a serious crash at Talledega or Daytona. It was really bad!!
I was at Daytona sitting across from the wreck in the stands. It sounded like a bomb went off. I looked at my brother and we both said at the same time, he's dead.
@ma55aracin9 i think that's part of why Randy went on (after his career was over) to start his racing seat company, The Joie of Seating, which makes roughly the safest seats possible for race cars
i agree with you 100%; those were the days when real sportscasters called the play-by-play -and lap-by-lap- just as it happened; nowadays all we can hear is -mostly- some jockeys uttering the wrong moves....AT THE WRONG TIME
Ken Squire is the man - "2nd generation driver" - the man knew his stuff!
