the "holy" holly was linguistically linked with Hel's yonic "hole". It was the most sacred of trees, according to a carol sung by medieval pagans at Yuletide, saying holly "bears the crown." In the Dionysian cult, female holly was paired with the god's male symbol, ivy.

this made my day. thx. pete and pete halloweenie best holiday themed episode ever on alot of levels. halloween in two days. iggy pop in the episode was a nice touch, "you missed a spot.... stooge" lol. down goes the pumpkin eaters!
