@yumher1 Thanks! I like the sound, it has a nice purr to it going down the road. If I can ever find a good place to do it I'll upload a video of it doing a drive by the camera. Sounds different from the outside driving by
@THECANDYMAN1111 Thanks! I'm not too sure the original cost of the mufflers - they were given to me, however I think they were pretty cheap. Something like I wanna say $80-100 for the pair? Nothing like those inflated Magnaflows and all that though.
Nope, just some generic mufflers available at my local muffler shop. They would probably be classified as mini turbos, quite reasonably priced. I just had them chop the old ones off and tack these new ones on with the new tips.
Don't worry what other people think, as long as you like the car that's the only opinion that matters. It might not appeal to kids who think a souped up Honda with a huge wing and a fart can muffler with some Altezza lights is cool - but I'm none to concerned with their approval. If you like the sound of the video, to be honest it sounds much better in real life. The camera distorts some of the sound. Leave the resonator on though or you'll get some annoying drone - I still get a little with it.
Buick's engine was this in the 90's, I'm glad it was available in basically every model car they made lol. except the Roadmaster, that got a Corvette engine! Go Buick!
Pretty much, the only other one is the 3.1 in the Century. I always liked that Buick stuck to the 3800 where Pontiac used the 3.1 and 3.4 a lot more. The 3800 is the most reliable of all those motors, and the most powerful. I've always wanted to drive a Roadmaster or better yet a Fleetwood - the Fleetwood's of the 90's were a Cadillac version of the Impala SS and yet they are much cheaper than the Impala SS since the Impala has gained a special following the Fleetwood didn't.
Haha, I'm sure that's a little noisier than this one but with the resonator in place I think the Riviera sounds much better than the other 3800s when they put loud mufflers on them. Post up a video of your's sometime - there's not many other Riviera exhaust videos on youtube.
We had a GTP with these mufflers on it before and comparatively it was much louder and boomier than the Riviera. It had the DP, cat delete, U-bend delete, and these mufflers but they were much louder. The resonator on the Riviera makes them much quieter (I've heard Rivieras like this with glass packs that didn't sound too loud) so that definitely seems to be a big factor in the volume level.
Thanks, Buicks are very underappreciated cars. Most people would never consider them simply due to their image but they make lots of nice cars. Most people would rather a Grand Prix GTP over a Regal GS but they're the same car, except the Regal GS has a much more quality built interior. Rivieras like this can be had for great prices if you can find one, not too expensive to maintain at all and I have 151k on the clock.
Thanks, I know the 3800 isn't quite as exotic sounding as a lot of other six cylinders out there but I do enjoy the sound this car makes. It's a nice go between for not being too terribly loud and not too stock sounding. Funny enough, the Grand National sounds similar in the exhaust department, but it does differ in the large whistling sound from it's turbo. While it is fast, I still wouldn't trade it for the supercharger sound!
Thanks! Indeed, most of my family are Buick people. We just bought an '05 LeSabre which is a nice maroon with some nice factory chrome rims and it rides like a dream - you can't even tell it's running! Not quite as fast as the Rivie here but it's no slouch! You can't even tell how fast you're going so you really have to watch the HUD!
Sweet! does the LeSabre have the 3800 series II? The Rivie you've got should be the 3800 supercharged right? My century is the 3100 series... It's definitely no slouch either, i have a vid on my page of it doing 0-60. I used to have an '84 Buick Electra... it was not slow by any means either... had a 307 5.0L V8 in it. My father also had an '05 Lacrosse... it was very quick... My Century is very quite too, can't tell it's runnin either. Always wanted a Riviera though!!!!
Yes, the LeSabre has the 3800 Series II N/A with 205 hp. This Riviera has the 3800 Series II S/C with 240 hp. The last car I remember with the 3100 in it was an old '94 Cutlass Supreme. A good running car but it wouldn't squeal the tires or anything. Surprisingly while the Riviera runs good it's not as isolated and silent as the LeSabre. I can't put my finger on it but it's just not as isolated feeling as some of the other cars I've been in and I don't know why - I guess the age mostly.
Seems to me like you have the wrong setup. My flowmasters sound good and not to loud. Did you cut off the res. I left mine on. Check out my video and you'll see. Nice car tho
lol, Flowmasters are overpriced crap. The exhaust doesn't care if you paid too much for a muffler or not and trust me, I know the 3800 sound - you're not going to make it sound different. A Honda or a BMW would be something different, but 3800s sound the same when loud.
I did not take of the resonator, didn't want to hear the drone on the highway. I'm telling you, your car probably sounds the same in person, probably just louder.

I'm going to have to upload a video pretty soon.
2 Thumbs up.

Definitely the best sounding Rivera I've heard thus far. And I'm a fan of the Buicks too. Especially the famous Buick Grand National. Haha (:
