  • Thanks, great information here and a lot to work on! Thanks again.

  • there needs to be a"love" button. hella easy to follow lessons. thanks man

  • last but not least...great choice of song and excellent breakdown...

its kinda of like bare-back riding a horse or dolphin or eagle...

    way fun...

  • This is wonderful-- thanks so much!

  • nice,real sweet work

  • Excellent video! Weir stuff would be cool....Let It Grow jam maybe? This band never ceases to amaze me. Garcia style lessons are like manna for the soul. Thank you so much, you are doing a really cool thing just by playing and explaining the music much in the same spirit Jerry would share his music. And now....back to playin'

  • Seth, I just watched a video from Alpine 89 and if you ever do a China/Rider could you maybe add some licks from that killer version? Thanks man! You're the new King!

p.s. who's the Dead cover band 'Sparkomatic'? They have some vids out there.

  • Thank you so much for doing this. These are the best Garcia lessons on the web. I agree wholeheartedly with your statement that it takes "serious guts and energy" to do this nightly. Please do more. Any song will be appreciated.

  • please please post more. Of all the videos I've seen, you are more of a rosetta stone of how he composed his vocabulary and phrasing. And I can pick up what your layin down.

  • Thanks! This video is great.. Would love to see some Weir licks.

  • Thank you Sparkomatic This is by far the best Jerry instruction I have seen! I wish you were in Chicago! Your instruction really gets to the bottom of what Jerry is actually doing and your phrasing is excellent - now...I have a few requests: Franklin's (we all know the chords) but need Jerry's soloing concepts Cumberland Shakedown Terrapin Jack - A -Roe - solo mainly Loser Should I go on and on? You are awesome and I would pay money for these : )
  • Excellent breakdown, and your dialogue with mulefan74 is spot on! I'm just amazed every time I listen to Jerry's live solo's, always a big grin on my face. He was definitely one of a kind.

Thank you for sharing, this is very valuable.

  • Nice Vid! Yes, keep 'em comin'! Pete B.

  • Just enjoying these more and more. I have to engage myself a little more to figure it out more by ear, but i guess that is what you want to be doing anyway. These videos are deep resources. Thanks again.

  • very very nice! thanks for taking the time to break his style down! really a great breakdown on how he approached these types of solos. keep'em coming! how about a breakdown of cumberland?

  • Thanks very much for posting these. You are now my favourite lick guy. More if you please. Would you consider I know You Rider?

  • @jamjax Thanks, I'll try to do one on Rider. The Rider jam has some real nice Weir stuff. Maybe I'll just do a video on Weir during the China-Rider jam.

  • wow. awesome lesson! best jerry lesson i've seen. really helps to see the basic music theory behind what jerry is doing... it takes the mystery out of it.

the more i understand of his solos and try to play them the more amazed i am by his unique approach.

    awesome vid!

  • @mulefan74 Thanks! I agree that while analyzing and breaking down Jerry style leads is demystifying, it actually makes you appreciate him more, for the reason you stated--his unique style--his originality. You'll start to hear him reuse licks alot, you'll start to recognize and understand what you hear him do, but it just makes it a deeper appreciation. Improvising every solo every night takes serious guts and energy. The man was one of a kind. More lessons to come.

  • @sparkomatic yes completely agree. The more i try to play jerry tunes the more I am amazed at the inventiveness night after night. Utlimately no one can really imitate his "style" because its such a unique blend of folk, bluegrass, rock, banjo licks that are pieced together differently each night. . I agree with the other fellow that Chin>rider transition would be really cool to learn more on. Thanks for your efforts! your lessons are the best out there i've seen
