They ditched DOS/MS-DOS way back in the 90's and made their own kernel Windows NT. Which you also have to keep in mind that Microsoft has one of the most compatible Operative System in the world.
Which also put out such "high" performance than any other system yet have to show.
So instability is something that isn't that present in the Microsoft area if you know how to maintain it correctly.

@TheTechnoToast My Win7 system stays up almost all the time (I run my own media server on it), and I also do some casual gaming on it (Civ 5, NFS, COD etc). I even do a bit of development on it :-/ I haven't received a BSOD in a loooooooong time (say more than a year?) and the one I did get was due to Chrome and Flash not playing well together.

@Freezeman1602 Dos came from Seattle computer company which they lied and bought it for next to nothing. So not stolen but they did claim it was there OS they came up with. WIndows was a copy of the Mac GUI. John SCully was worried if MS did not develop office for the Mac is would fail. So they had a poorly written contract to use basic GUI features for use in office. They then took it and made windows. Apple sued and lost because of the contract was to vage.

I've been learning how a desktop works, and I learned how the old 1992 computer worked.. It's amazing how complex a computer is, and how it works, and I will never figure out how Bill Gates did it.

@Zizumia1 he leveraged his own knowledge by using the knowledge of more creative and intelligent people and used his business acumen to convince people they needed what he was selling. I doubt he had a lot to do with the engineering of OSes since they bought DOS for a hundred bucks from another company, then he copied Xerox's desktop OS like Apple. Brilliant business man, computer pioneer, but no engineering genius.

He has done so much for the world when it comes to computing, I mean yes maybe he did steal from Apple but if he didn't Microsoft wouldn't be as big as it is today and as a result we are not paying £1000+ for a computer now. We configure network services like Samba, NFS, Apache, BIND, MySQL, PostgreSQL...etc. We write or edit shell scripts that collects logs & email it to us or start/stop services at pre-scheduled times. Dude, you gotta seriously work out exactly what kind of support services you are selling.

some people still can't differentiate the two steves. There's one, who really invented the Apple computer. this guy is an electronics genius, and i have much respect for him since i started programming 8-bit computers back in '85. the other steve is just Apple's public relations. just an average person, never wrote code for the apple, neither designed any Apple's circuit. The first steve above, i referred to is Steve Wozniak ( the REAL apple inventor ). steve jobs knows only how to sell stuff.

He is giving millions of computers (for free)to poor schools is poor countrys. So when those poor children have their Microsoft accouts in school they'll understand how great a computer is, So when the poor children pass school they wan't to buy their own computers, They'll haft to pay 400 euros for a computer.

Are you aware that they wrote DOS after *buying* the rights to a rough OS, and the original author (a friend of paul allen) was hired *and accepted* an offered position @ MS to continue it? Are you saying they stole his promising project, by offering a lot of money and a job to it's creator? It would have flopped, they saw potential. Thats called observing opportunity in business, and they 100% legally followed the proper procedure. Don't whine because they made a smart decision.

You're insane. His name is Tim Paterson and he most definitely worked for Microsoft for over 10 years during the 80s, he fuckin wrote MS-DOS. Regardless of who got copyrights and legal shit, Tim Paterson is rightly considered the "father of DOS" even at MS and was not "stolen" from. In fact, the OS MS bought from Tim was in a legal dispute with another company BEFORE MS was even involved. Stop talking out of your ass

That's completely true, but in this case his product was bought AND his employment from MS followed to continue work on it, which is different than that. I don't follow anymore, is your argument that he stole DOS, or that the terms of the agreement were not fair? Because in the case of the latter, Tim Paterson seems like a happy, satisfied guy, and stuck with the company for a decade. Gates deal was legally accepted... anyone pissed off over that deal is pissed they weren't involved

Gates has a tested IQ of 160; he wrote computer programs at 13, made and sold a computer to Seattle when he was a teen, and constantly rewrote last minute code of Windows himself; Yea I'm sure he's just a sly businessman and really doesn't know anything about technology. Or maybe he just happened to see an opportunity, and had the balls to take it. He got to where he is now out of intelligence and foresight, and your a fool if you can't see that.

Actually he got where he is by stealing. They did not develop DOS, WINDOWS, Powerpoint, IE. Windows came about as a badly written contract that allowed MS to copy the GUI of the Mac. With Jobs gone and an iddiot running Apple it allowed MS to gain control. But as we see now MS is losing ground in all areas to Apple, Google and others

@Freezeman1602 Dos came from Seattle computer company which they lied and bought it for next to nothing. So not stolen but they did claim it was there OS they came up with. WIndows was a copy of the Mac GUI. John SCully was worried if MS did not develop office for the Mac is would fail. So they had a poorly written contract to use basic GUI features for use in office. They then took it and made windows. Apple sued and lost because of the contract was to vage.

They developed the mouse too and Apple had a deal with them for some stock in Apple. Actually yes BG lied and marketed the heck out of DOS while Mac had the GUI then it wasnt till win 3 that win took off. Also DEV team at apple thought win was junk dismissed it. Had they saw it as a threat they would have dev something to compete and maybe held win back.
