Sorry but many things ment and designed to do as you said fail safe fail all of the time,would not take many failures to make life not possible we are already on the edge of that now and you assume in the event would not be world wide in a star emp not all reactors are built the way they should be to be safe.

The problem with emp attacks its still as if we did a full nuke attack.I think thats why we are using atomic reactors if someone hits us with a emp strike all of nuke plants protection systems go offline pop mega meltdown everyone glows in the dark.So if anyone thinks we will ever stop using nuke power plants they are dreaming.If it ever comes from our star we are all screwed big time.

Sorry, but, the fail safes are designed to go into place in the event of a massive failure like that. If power is cut and electronics are destroyed, by default this flicks a mechanism into action that will drop the cooling rods into place, stopping the reaction. That fails safe is present in all reactors now since Chernobyl.

How literate of you. See something you disagree with and then call them names. Way to go. Fukushima was a very rare case in that it suffered a double whamy. First, it was struck by the Earthquake, causing damage, then, it was hit by a tsunami, causing further Damage. This damaged the shell of the reactor itself and then the explosion caused even more damage. Fukushima was compounded by several factors such as these. What we are talking about here is a simple EM Pulse.
