Even now we see China and other countries calling for a change to another currency that will actually hold its value. For example, a currency based on oil (where a paper note can be redeemed for some quantity of crude) would serve well. But this would destroy the US government's ability to monetize (inflate) itself out of bankruptcy.
It's not the value of the silver dime as a dime that makes it valuable enough to purchase a gallon of gas. It's the value of the raw silver (for example, melted from the dime) that can buy a gallon of gas today. It illustrates how the government has completely destroyed the value of our currency, so that the dollar is a joke. The only thing that makes it valuable at all is that every other country has devalued its currency even MORE.
Austrian economists and proponents who, for whatever reason, seem to FEAR rigorous empirical studying and analysis of actual data, are being left behind because they can't realize how outdated and absurd their methods are. ANYONE can do what they do- write silly books inferring a relationship between this or that economic factor on a more logical or philosophical basis with only a little bit of data and facts thrown in here and there.
Austrian economists may have some good points to make, but they muddy the waters with the rest of their bullshit on EVERYTHING ELSE. In 2011, when the economy and technology are SO ADVANCED, even much more so than just the past 60-70 years alone (when Hayek and Mises wrote their 'best' books), we CAN'T just rely on logical and philosophical BS "methods" of determining what is and isn't an economic truth! The world is far too complex. RIGOROUS STUDIES have to be done.
Look at all the butthurt libertarians and Paultards RUSH in defense of him or libertarianism in such a sad manner. Lmfao
Look, they may distorted Paul's "true" positions or statements a little bit, and the "racism" thing is disputable (to a fault), but the OVERALL message- that Paul is a loony libertarian douchebag who wants to take us back to the 1900s- isn't lost.
The video is an excellent example of the use of "framing" to distort facts to mislead. See the Wikipedia article on "Framing (social sciences)" to see how it works. In this case, the video uses the too-common ignorance of economic principles to make Paul seem crazy. The "gas for a dime" quote is in fact quite sane once you understand the background.
@SpareSimian Did most people WATCHING that debate even know what the hell a 'silver dime' IS? I didn't! I had to look it up myself.
And what do you consider "economic principles"? Austrian "economic" nonsense spewed by idiots like Hayek and von Mises and Hazlitt? Stuff that has NEVER been proven empirically and is argued on a purely philosophical and "observatory" basis?
Oh, wait! You Austrians DON'T CARE about empirical evidence for your economic claims; you say it's "impossible"
@whoo689 I guess that's why the Austrians failed to predict the bubbles while the Keynesians saw them coming. Oh, wait. It was the AUSTRIANS who saw them coming well in advance and the Keynesians who swore up until the collapse that everything was fine!
@SpareSimian Well, to be fair, I'm sure at least a handful of prominent Keynesians DID predict the crash. Plus, those bankers who fucked up their busineses, like Lehman and Bear Sterns, sure as FUCK didn't see it coming! And I'll hazard a guess and say that most of the people running those companies PROBABLY weren't Keynesians but more right-leaning economically.
The fact that more Austrians predicted the crash DOES NOT necessarily mean Austrians were "totally right" about everything.
@SpareSimian Austrians subscribe to this silly mode of thinking known as "praxeology" where you can only 'prove' things like economics by "logically" thinking about economic history and finding certain patterns WITHOUT rigorous statistical or econometric analysis, for one thing. Without doing hard testing of the data
@whoo689 You might find enlightenment by looking at Tom Woods' blog of November 11 titled "Austrian Economics Is ‘Unscientific’". (Alas Youtube blocks links or I'd link it here. Googling "Austrian Economics Is 'Unscientific' | Tom Woods" should pop it up.)
Whoever makes these videos clearly doesn't understand Paul at all. First of all he's never taken any of the government benefits or bloated salary.
The worst thing you can throw at Libertarians is their "racism." You say it's so BAD to let racists run their shops how they want. But riddle me this: How did anti-racism laws get passed in the first place without the majority of people being AGAINST racism? And since racism is so widely frowned upon, how do you expect them to STAY in business?
So who would you dumbasses vote for in 2012? ANY other candidate would continue the wars and continue the status quo. @nutt66 Conservative Democrats were the ones that own all the business, all the plantations, had all the wealth in the south. Today you can still find them, just like today there are Liberal Republicans. White people are not under attack, its American that's under attack. We are slowly becoming a Nanny State, taking away Peoples Rights. Socialism is showing its ugly face, and runeing America. @Craydon I would be glad for regulations...if the government wasn't bought out by the corporations already that allows companies to put fluoride in our water, aspartame in our food, Oil and toxic chemicals in the Gulf Coast, and thousands of homes left vacant due to foreclosure fraud.
@nutt66 Is that why Robert Byrd was accepted by Democrats as House Majority whip until the late 80s? You're a fool. The Republicans haven't changed all that much since the party's founding ideology. It is the Democrats that have switched from treating minorities as slaves, to perceiving them as children.
@1337wafflezz Byrd "Be sure you avoid the Ku Klux Klan. Don't get that albatross around your neck" ... "was sorely afflicted with tunnel vision —a jejune and immature outlook—seeing only what I wanted to see because I thought the Klan could provide an outlet for my talents and ambitions."... "I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times ... and I don't mind apologizing over and over again. I can't erase what happened."
@BigDirtyBasterd Know your history. The KKK supported republicans ever since they help elect Nixon to the White House. They switched parties after Lyndon Johnson got rid of Jim Crow. Google "southern strategy" The KKK democrats who are now republican were and are conservative not liberal. MORON!
@captcrais101 You are right for the most part. The KKK and Southern Whites did change parties but most of it began right after the Second World War when Harry Truman desegregated the Armed Forces. This pissed off Southern whites so much that the bolted from the Democratic Coalition and got behind Strom Thurmond and his Dixiecrat Party. Years later, Republican Barry Goldwater would run for President as the pro-segregation candidate.
@captcrais101 I never said Liberal, I said Democrat. I dont care what later in history they did, we know why they changed. They started as Democrats. There is no reason for name calling when discussing History.
If Wrong Paul thinks that the death penalty is the "one place" that racism still exists and still thinks its wrong for the federal government to tell the states not to have the death penalty, then its obvious he's done nothing to help stop THAT racism.
Wrong Paul HAS, however, worked to reinstate racism at other levels of the economy and in government. THAT has been documented in his voting record and in the bills he has tried to pass. Wrong Paul is Racist.
The private-public distinction is kind of phony, when you think about it, at least money-wise. It's not about WHICH sector spends it but HOW they spend it and whether or not the incentives are there to make sure they spend the dollars more efficiently. Unfortunately, government bureaucracy IS kind of a monopoly in so many areas (although I wouldn't advocate running gov't "like a business"), but in SOME areas, a little competition and freedom for those bureaucrats to be more efficient wouldn't
I mean, for christ sake, we wonder WHY these bureaucracies always spend so damn much on shit NORMAL AMERICANS CAN FIND FOR A MUCH LOWER PRICE EASILY?? There are so many governmental rules for bureaucracies and agencies buying even normal things like COMPUTERS that I think could be loosened a little without any trouble, and it would save taxpayers money. Why CAN'T a bureaucracy buy the best-quality product at the lowest possible price, like just about everyone else does?
And while you may be getting "someone else's tax dollars" for welfare-state programs, the fact is, you're STILL getting private revenues from "someone else's spent money" to get a wage and whatnot! Of course, the latter may be MORE voluntary than the former, but it's still someone else's money. The voluntary distinction hardly seems relevant in the end. Money is money, and there's no 'magical' evil properties conferred upon it like voodoo b/c it's spent by gov't. No "dependency-creating" ones
relying on a wage working for some private company. You're getting the money from SOMEWHERE ELSE. The only TRULY 'independent' workers are those who are self-employed and make their money entirely from selling a certain product and being their own 1-man enterprise, few and far between as those folks may be. Even corporate execs aren't "independent" totally. They need A LOT of lower-level employees to help run those companies. After all, they don't have 100 hands and 500 hours a week.
Back in the day, either an old person essentially starved and died on the street, or they HOPED that their family would take care of them and could afford medical care. Then Medicare came along, as well as SS, and old people DIDN'T have to rely on others for their retirement. They could retire comfortably ON THEIR OWN, becoming much more INDEPENDENT, even IF it was due to taxes. They could pay their own bills, get their own healthcare, etc. How is that "dependence"? No more 'dependent' than
This is a strange assault, these videos seem a pretty good, though (intentionally?) inaccurate presenting of Ron Paul's viewpoint on the federal government. Also there is a great deal of false equivalency in some of the statements.
...but I don't really get the point. Paul's core argument is that the imposition of the federal government into state(s) internal business, and all govt into individuals private lives & business, is antagonistic to personal freedom.
@UtubeMyAccountName "Inaccurate presenting" of WRong Pol's viewpoint? What is WRong Pol's viewpoint?
Even his biggest fans can't agree whether he supports gay marriage, for example. It's also confusing that he claims his 'heroes' are the gangs of angry Black men who FORCED themselves on racist business owners thus depriving them of income (theft), yet he believes property rights are sacrosanct, and that business owners should never be FORCED to serve Blacks, lolwtf?
Obama also said he thinks marriage should be between a man and woman, but that he opposes legislation to mandate it.
He says he admires those who take the front lines against legislative discrimination, based on class, race, sexual differences/preferences & that he defends an individual's right to refuse service to anyone in their establishment, the same as they can refuse entry to anyone into their home. There is no contradiction.
WRong Paul claims he believes in property rights, and that no person should be deprived of their property, or be FORCED by anyone, even the govt, to be deprived of their RIGHTS to conduct a private business any way they see fit.
And yet, at the same time, he also claims that people who forced unwanted associations on private business owners, and deprived them of income (theft) are his 'heroes'. Um...yeah, no contradiction there at all, ROTFL!
@PostSurgeOperative No, that's not right. You didn't read what I wrote clearly, nor are you clear on what Paul is saying.
His argument is not that people who force unwanted associations on private business are his heroes, but people who oppose legislative (as in institutional) discrimination are admirable. He makes a clear distinction, as did I.
@UtubeMyAccountName It's an extremely absolutist position that is JUST NOT TRUE in so many cases. I mean, if you have access to unemployment insurance AFTER YOU GET LAID OFF, helping you keep your house or apartment and pay the bills WHILE you look for another job, how is that "anti-freedom"? I'd say that GIVES you financial freedom! Lets you KEEP your financial freedom for a limited time while you try to become independent again. The sad thing about libertarians is that they don't realize
is that even if welfare state programs DO make you "dependent", the reality is that they help you become INDEPENDENT in a sense. You get a check, food stamps, health insurance, whatever, ON YOUR OWN by registering for those benefits if you're poor enough, and you don't HAVE to go to a relative or a friend and ASK him and just hope that he'll help you out and has the money. Sure, it may have been the latter back in the day, but not everyone's families are wealthy enough to help out in bad times
You argue that Paul's assertion is wrong because it is absolutist, then immediately proceed to make an absolute assertion of your own. You argue that becoming dependent actually means you are becoming "INDEPENDENT in a sense.". You argue that receipt of resources provided by appropriation of others labors, are resources acquired "ON YOUR OWN".
Your every sentence ends with an argument opposing the very argument with which it begins.
@mw2assault and Ron Paul who wants to let corporations have free range over people without regulations, allowing companies like BP to pollute more of our water, factories to hire children for cheap labor, and keep perpetuating the system that caused millions to suffer called the monetary system, and wants to get rid of social systems that actually help some people.
There was a time BEFORE fiat money where people were exploited and put into poverty you know...hero worship is not healthy.
i think if he was racist the the media that is controlled by our gov would have been all over it. you dumb azz. they ignore him cause thats the only thing they can do they have no dirt on him. so ppl like you make up s*h*i*t*. if you woke up and saw that every candidate besides ron paul supports global gov. your just another add to the brain washing added to the media if ppl believe this you might as well say good bye to the dollar
I am no Ron Paul fan but this is a bit of a low blow lol
I assume your main point though is despite any supposed intentions he has, it consequences that he has to own up to. But he has basically said he hopes it works out, and thats all he has the right to say lol
Your brain is partly cored from heavy drug use, half of the teeth in your mouth are rotten and you are, generally, a huge failure in life. And you appear to have developed a lazy eye.
I guess I can see why you're such a cynic. Ugly losers usually are ;)
You do know Dr. Paul has never took any government benefits and gives back part of his salary and budget every year? Yes that is right he returns a portion of his salary every year. He returns a portion of his office budget every year. And Dr. Paul's healthcare cost the taxpayer $0 dollars. And Dr. Paul's retirement will cost the taxpayer $0 dollars.
ooo ... paneling and naugahyde, harvest gold frig -- is that shag carpet? ... chipped siding, diy camo station wagon -- this is the most realistic puppet stage I have ever seen ... kudos to the set designer -- lol
@ExUSSailor But don't you know that economic social darwinism is the best thing ever? If you get rid of all the useless regulations like food safety laws, pollution standards, and workers rights then what's best for business will surly be best for America, the Gold Bond Wall Street Business Tycoon Ron Paul said so. Besides those regulations are unenforceable anyway because they're full of loop holes so lets get rid of them instead of fixing the loop holes like a sensible social democracy would.
@batfly OK. I'll say it again, I don't like Rush Limbaugh, nor do I endorse ANY RethugliKKKan candidate. I AM A SOCIALIST. If it were up to me Paul, Limbaugh, and all the rest of the Fascists on the Right would hang.
@ExUSSailor The thing about Libertarians that pisses me off so much is, despite claiming that they hate the two parties equally, and that they agree with Democrats on social issues and civil liberties, when push goes to shove and they do vote for a major party they almost always vote with the GOP. They'll bitch about the GOP's track record on human rights and bad foreign policy, but it's all window dressing to keep people voting for narcissists. Glad I'm no longer a Libertarians!
@Painkill3r4 Wrong Paul is the only solution America has that 90% of people know about, because we know that the Corporations, Banking Cartels, and Private Industries own our government by controlling all politicial financing and lobbying, the supreme court has ruled consistently that Money=Speech.
So let's vote Wrong Paul for Economic Social Darwinism, we'll start with taking entitlements away from the elderly and disabled, damn leeches.
So why is Wrong Paul the only other option we're shown?
Wow what a realistic look at Rand, and Ron Paul. xD

It is the Democrats that have switched from treating minorities as slaves, to perceiving them as children.
1337wafflezz 3 weeks ago

MORON!
captcrais101 5 months ago
@captcrais101 You are right for the most part. The KKK and Southern Whites did change parties but most of it began right after the Second World War when Harry Truman desegregated the Armed Forces. This pissed off Southern whites so much that the bolted from the Democratic Coalition and got behind Strom Thurmond and his Dixiecrat Party. Years later, Republican Barry Goldwater would run for President as the pro-segregation candidate.
Activeassholeonpills 5 months ago

Xerock 5 months ago
The private-public distinction is kind of phony, when you think about it, at least money-wise. It's not about WHICH sector spends it but HOW they spend it and whether or not the incentives are there to make sure they spend the dollars more efficiently. Unfortunately, government bureaucracy IS kind of a monopoly in so many areas (although I wouldn't advocate running gov't "like a business"), but in SOME areas, a little competition and freedom for those bureaucrats to be more efficient wouldn't
whoo689 5 months ago
hurt.
Why CAN'T a bureaucracy buy the best-quality product at the lowest possible price, like just about everyone else does?
whoo689 5 months ago
And while you may be getting "someone else's tax dollars" for welfare-state programs, the fact is, you're STILL getting private revenues from "someone else's spent money" to get a wage and whatnot! Of course, the latter may be MORE voluntary than the former, but it's still someone else's money. The voluntary distinction hardly seems relevant in the end. Money is money, and there's no 'magical' evil properties conferred upon it like voodoo b/c it's spent by gov't. No "dependency-creating" ones
whoo689 5 months ago
relying on a wage working for some private company.

PostSurgeOperative 5 months ago 4
This is a strange assault, these videos seem a pretty good, though (intentionally?) inaccurate presenting of Ron Paul's viewpoint on the federal government. Also there is a great deal of false equivalency in some of the statements.
...but I don't really get the point. Paul's core argument is that the imposition of the federal government into state(s) internal business, and all govt into individuals private lives & business, is antagonistic to personal freedom.
How is he wrong?
UtubeMyAccountName 5 months ago
@UtubeMyAccountName "Inaccurate presenting" of WRong Pol's viewpoint? What is WRong Pol's viewpoint?
Even his biggest fans can't agree whether he supports gay marriage, for example. It's also confusing that he claims his 'heroes' are the gangs of angry Black men who FORCED themselves on racist business owners thus depriving them of income (theft), yet he believes property rights are sacrosanct, and that business owners should never be FORCED to serve Blacks, lolwtf?
Plus, he's a flip-flopper!
PostSurgeOperative 5 months ago 3
@PostSurgeOperative What does that have to do with my question?
Obama also said he thinks marriage should be between a man and woman, but that he opposes legislation to mandate it.
He says he admires those who take the front lines against legislative discrimination, based on class, race, sexual differences/preferences & that he defends an individual's right to refuse service to anyone in their establishment, the same as they can refuse entry to anyone into their home. There is no contradiction.
UtubeMyAccountName 5 months ago
@UtubeMyAccountName You exactly prove my point.
PostSurgeOperative 5 months ago 3
@PostSurgeOperative No, that's not right. You didn't read what I wrote clearly, nor are you clear on what Paul is saying.
His argument is not that people who force unwanted associations on private business are his heroes, but people who oppose legislative (as in institutional) discrimination are admirable. He makes a clear distinction, as did I.
UtubeMyAccountName 5 months ago
@UtubeMyAccountName It's an extremely absolutist position that is JUST NOT TRUE in so many cases. I mean, if you have access to unemployment insurance AFTER YOU GET LAID OFF, helping you keep your house or apartment and pay the bills WHILE you look for another job, how is that "anti-freedom"? I'd say that GIVES you financial freedom! Lets you KEEP your financial freedom for a limited time while you try to become independent again. The sad thing about libertarians is that they don't realize
whoo689 5 months ago
is that even if welfare state programs DO make you "dependent", the reality is that they help you become INDEPENDENT in a sense. You get a check, food stamps, health insurance, whatever, ON YOUR OWN by registering for those benefits if you're poor enough, and you don't HAVE to go to a relative or a friend and ASK him and just hope that he'll help you out and has the money. Sure, it may have been the latter back in the day, but not everyone's families are wealthy enough to help out in bad times
whoo689 5 months ago
@whoo689 Your arguments are their own refutation.

He returns a portion of his office budget every year. And Dr. Paul's healthcare cost the taxpayer $0 dollars. And Dr. Paul's retirement will cost the taxpayer $0 dollars.

They'll bitch about the GOP's track record on human rights and bad foreign policy, but it's all window dressing to keep people voting for narcissists. Glad I'm no longer a Libertarians!
