You need to read the Manga. Mask changes and we don't know why But those hollow eyes come and go. It's something with Ichigo.

I prefer the canon colors. The stripes are always black when color by Kubo. Anime takes liberties. Manga kicks it's ass. For some reason...the good guys can't lose body parts like they do in the manga. Bad guys can...but a lot more amputees in manga

It is filler. Go to BleachWikia and go in the "Episodes" section. In the Content list 1.11, it should name the arc "Zanpakuto Unknown Tales arc." That is the arc where the Zanpakuto spirits are released. That's when Muramasa fights Hollow Ichigo.
