when you do your leg raises in the beginning...stop taking a step and then doing the next one. kick...foot down...step forward with the leg you just kicked with...then kick leg waiting behind....and so on. and i always say this........put more UMPH! into your wushu. peace
@afy300 Thanks for your comment. This is a really old video, so my basics are much better now. If you don't mind, check out my long fist & broadsword clips from CMAT 17. =)
Khwaab, thanks. I was just trying my best because I've worked 8 hours and had 2 Taiji classes prior to doing this practice drill that day. As a matter of fact, I've been up for more than 16 hours during this filming and my enegy level was almost down to zero. hohoho~~~ =P
Yeah the new student is kinda funny but I think he´s good (a lot better than I would B), he´s trying hard and that´s always good. The girl in black looks tired but impressive cause she keeps going. And U R good too! U´ve got a lot of energy in your moves. U seem 2 give 100% in all the moves, gr8!

May I just ask you...I wonder if one has 2 B in a certain shape or U know, have a certain basic strength B4 starting Wushu? U C, I´m afraid I´m too weak 2 start and I´m wondering if I should start when I get more body-strength? Right now, I´m about 6 kg underweight and I´m so out of shape that I can´t even stand on my hands...never been able 2 actually:( So basically, do I have 2 B fit B4 starting? I´m so afraid 2 make a fool out of myself...
I think as a beginner, its important that you do a lot of conditioning to build up your endurance and flexibility. Everything takes time, so don't stress too much if you can't get one thing at once. I admit that I'm still not capable of doing certain drills as well as many 1st year students, and this is already my 3rd year!
Hey there HuoXingC! I´ve never done Wushu but I just wanted 2 thank U for posting this practice session. I think you´re very brave 2 let ppl see your educational journey in this gr8 artform. I´m thinking about starting Wushu and seeing videos like this helps a lot so really, thank U very much!
I´ve only done Karate years ago and I miss it a lot. But this time, I want to try Wushu.
during ur warm ups, u need to keep ur body more straight cause when ur doing ur outsides, it looks like ur bending into it which ur not suppose to. In that area u need to stretch more. Um and your too rushy when ur doing ur steps, there are parts where u have to pause in the stances. Iunno how to explain it but maybe i can find a video. And your difficulties such as ur bkicks, your foot needs to be pointing ut, and u have the wrong approach.
Thanks! I actually have a more updated video after working on some of the drills. Its posted on my "Video Responses" so hopefully you can see at least a little bit of improvement.
I agree. Losing some weight will probably help a lot. But if you want to post a comment on my video, please work on your spelling, you stupid dumb dumb!!!!!
Hi Adrian, nice job. Your basics are pretty good. One note about your jump inside and butterfly is to not stop the momentum. Seems like you're running up to them, then slight pause right before you jump. Slow the motion down and keep the movement going until you get a better feel for the transition of your body weight from one leg to another. Then speed things up as you get more comfortable. You look like you're a hard worker, and with time, you'll be great. Keep up the good work!
jump slap kick - i'll just start with the obvious and get into more detail.
1. jump off the right leg and kick with your right leg straight with your toes pointing forward.
2. keep the left leg in FRONT of you at all times with your knee raised as high as it can go and the toes pointing straight down. try to land with your right leg only with your left leg in the same position (the high knee thing with the toe pointing downward).
when you do your ooloong panda (the spinning with the arms and then slapping the floor), don't let your feet lift off of the ground. when you turn right after that to make your fist hit your hand, don't let your right leg lift and go behind your back. make sure that right leg is forward and bent with the knee raised as high as it can. don't forget that the toe also has to be pointing down.
Yeah, I am the one that's in all black with the white brace on my forearm. I don't have the feiyue shoes. Does it really make any differences? I've tried the feiyue shoes before, and I had a hard time balancing with that shoes.
heh - well, that's the question! Different kicks, slightly different contacts. You're not wearing feiyues, are you? If you have a rubbery toe part, that's the part that makes the best sound ime - also, you need to get the "heel" of your hand to it in my experience. I remember first seeing my teacher, when he was fresh from China - the sound of the slap alone was enough to impress us! If you experiment, you'll find the right way for you. Best of luck on your wushu journey!
I loved doing this kind of training - and it's still a part of my daily routine, and still the best leg training exercises I've seen! One thing my coach stressed is explosiveness at the points where you slap your feet - like "ba dam!" - even if the leg raise isn't too fast or too perfect - like mine, lol, an explosive, loud, fast contact can really imrpove the over all impression given to an onlooker/judge. Maybe find a different part of the feiyue to slap, to get a better sound. Otherwise cool!
I never realized how important explosiveness was when slapping the feet. Thanks! I've been slapping the outer side of my feet, so is that the correct place to slap for the explosiveness?
your ne student is really good for beginning

Lol, the "girl" in the black is my mom. She's in her mid-40's, which explains why she seems tired. =P

kicks - keep your arms straight. don't let them bend or move around.
don't let your heels lift off of the ground. this makes you unbalanced.
snap your legs down harder when you bring your leg down. make sure they're straight, so they'll be at full speed when you pull them down.
