  • this is amazing!! i love it!!

  • mt boom!só achei que o solista tem a voz mt grave...

  • Excellent!!

  • excellent job. one of the best versions i've seen on youtube - deserves to have more views. a great soloist, great range and pronunciation. excellent orchestration. i imagine the sound of it live was amazing. well done.

  • brass is too loud, not solid enough... choir is great though

  • My school is singing Baba Yetu for our winter showcase; this is simply amazing. (:

    Great job! (:

  • This is the best performance I've seen of this song. I felt choked up listening to it. (almost as great as the original ;-) )

  • wow, this is amazing! my favorite video i've found on here of an HS choir singing this song. =]

  • My chorus did this piece as part of Video Games Live with a professional symphony orchestra, and we didn't do it with half the heart of these kids. Fantastic work, all! Bravissimi!

  • that's beautiful

  • And this just brought awesome goosebumps and almost a tear... D:

    AWESOME!

  • Were doing it again!

  • amazing soloist very well done.

  • this sounds beautiful! Congratulations. I got chills listening to this.

  • actually last year my choir performed this outside at disney

  • I LOVED this performance. I was completely blown away. Go Tigers!!

  • percusion is blocking the choir and over powering them. sing louder or lower the precusions. can really understand the word clear.... round up and some are yell and mouthing is spread. all in all.. great singing!

  • this is amazing

  • this song is made to be sung outside. i never seen a choir attemt that.

  • Why do you think that this should be performed outside?

  • @UnsungVeil our chorus did it inside and outside at DownTown disney

  • @UnsungVeil it would sound like wank outside

  • I can't wait to sing this for our spring concert. VHS ROCKS!

  • i've been searching all over youtube for a choir who actually sung this correctly. good job

  • solo nice one of the best i heared for now....but hey dont yell lol alot of ppl love to yell when it comes to that part.

  • soloist is AMAZING but the rest of the choir is really quiet. but they have really good blend!

  • Very nice sound. Although the band over-powered a bit, but what was heard it was wonderful.

  • Excellent performance, but I'm not so sure about the brass.

  • The band overpowers the vocals. Good rendition though. The lead is pretty impressive, especially considering how powerful a role it is in the actual song.

  • percussion is great. very good.

  • stupid crowd, do not cheer while they're performing :/

  • very nice solo:)

  • Ah you all did really well, the trumpet kind of threw it off, but good job :D

  • I love the soloist!!! =]

  • Beautiful! ;) only the band plays no good music xD

  • OMG I DID THAT SONG LAST YEAR!!! Its a good song!

  • excellent !

  • Really great job! Impressive !

  • I liked it! Though it could have done without the trumpet and the chime-thing... The strings were great!

  • GOOSE BUMPS.

    honestly, the band ruins it.

    but es all good :D

  • @OMGPWNTATOECHIPZ

    totally got goosebumps too!

  • very nice work! Very nice, im impressed :)

  • I agree. Really good effort, better than many professional choirs. Orchestra was good, Choir superb, fantastic clear harmonies. Well done to the music director!

  • Amazing, just superb. Thanks so much for this jhoevers

  • I cried, you guys.. seriously :) I'm such a weep^^ But anyways, i loved loved loved the B part at 1:50 and out.. Chills<3

  • 1.37 is where is gets good! lol i love being in this choir

  • wow. the soloist actually hit all the right notes. the other videos on youtube are horrible and the soloists can never hit that high note at the beginning. well done!

  • AWESOME Tenor solo =] were doing this song right now in our A Cappella choir and i hope we sound as good as this =]

  • We're doing this song this year .. I hope we sound half as good as you guys!

    Great job :) <3

  • Can I get sheet music for this?

  • hell ya im on this choir this year :)

  • :) Love this song! as well as the message of the song. :)

  • this gave me chills the whole time...great job

  • wow VERY GOOD version of this song. i've seen a lot of other choirs suck xD

  • check out under clem cano. Thanks

  • gave me goosebumps :)

i love songs that do that

  • another american non swaying variation of the song. sorry no matter how well sung it an african song sing it african style NOT american

  • Thanks for your comment but with all due respect, you do not know what you are talking about. It is a song that was composed by an American Composer that is sung in Swahili. The song was arranged in consultation with the composer. There is no "right" way to sing it or perform it. Its a high school choir for goodnes sake. Give them credit for singing a magnificent song that people from around the world love to hear! Read the other comments.

  • Kaldhore, say wathever you want. These guys have dont a great job.

  • yes it is technically an american song

  • Thank you so much. I agree wholeheartedly with you. My high school choir did this and I hate to say it didn't even sound this good! This song was EXCELLENTLY performed vocally and instrumentally (not to mention the singers displayed an excellent use of diction throughout) and these young artists deserve far more respect than what was displayed by "Kaldhore."

  • Born and raised in Kenya and hearing those young men and women sing every word with perfection almost brought me to tears. I would have wanted to sing along but the shock was ernomous may be next time.

  • Tis a beautiful song, and all the more breathtaking when you can actually see it being performed - even if I'm not much for it's religious content, it's still the kind of music that can talk directly to the soul and bring forth such miraculous emotions.

  • its american just song in Swahili, it was made for the game civilizaton 4

  • It's Swahili sung in Swahili!!

    The composer is american though.

  • This is the Lord's Prayer in Swahili. The music is composed by Christopher Tin who is an American Composer.

  • i thought it was written BY an american..?

  • as a swahili speaking person, I can say well Done, thanks for blessing the world

  • very good performance ! and the soloist is talented !

  • So beautiful.

    I love this song.

    Sounds amazing. =)

  • wow..amazing...for real..i bet you guys one a lot of awards at completions huh?

  • whoah. ok ive been looking for a video of a good baba yetuu, this is by far the best ive seen.

  • WOAH

  • I love this song, your chorus is amazing, I would want to see it live :)

  • Incredible!!! was amazing, God i'm crying!!!!

  • who's the soloist he's awesome

  • Junior. Isnt he great?!!!!

  • wow finally a decent soloist!

  • nice i really like this song :3

  • This is AMAZING! :D

  • I heard this song first in Civilization IV -- man I love that game :)

    Very nice performance!

  • Thank you to everyone who has posted a comment. Just a reminder, the performance was astounding live. The audience was moved by how great the choir, band & orchestra sounded together. This video was recorded with a Sony Cybershot digital, hand held camera being held by one of the parents seated 2 rows from the orchestra. Even still, this was an amazing performance that amazed everyone in the audience. This is one talented group of students!

  • i wish my school would do something like this

  • Be proactive about it and get it done. =)

  • ashley tisdale shouldve been there to see what happened to her high school after she left. this is a very nice version, but i cant hear the choir over the violins and the other instruments.

  • Ashley Tisdale didn't go to this school. However, I am sure there is someone just as talented waiting to be discovered out of this group of fine performers.

  • has to be

  • lawl the soloist messed up a bit on his first line.... but i love everything else! Not too fast, unlike most others

  • it was a little hard to hear the chorus towards the beginning... but that soloist was AWESOME!!!!

  • baba yetu yetu uliye mbinguni yetu yetu la la la whatever na kadhalika. it wasn't tha tbad...but i agree about the soloist...couldn't be from TZ if he wanted. otherwise, good :).

  • The solist and the orchestra did a very good job, but the choir is much too weak. Maybe it's just because of the camera position but you can barely hear the choir.

  • could be better but I did get goosebumps. great job.

  • i cant over how well we did on this song! if only we could do it again!

  • Amazing how one song from a computer game has become soo damn popular...

  • best i've ever heard...ok.

i think the original (the kings of lions) is THE BEST !! , but i like that version ;)

    thehe,sry for my english,but im german ^^

  • im in this choir. it was sooo fun singing this song. the soloist, jr., did not try to hard. thats just how his voice is. i think he did amazing. and we were loud we are just in a BIG audittorium and are singing with a also very big band. thanks for the compliments. this song was soooo much fun to sing =] GO VHS CHOIR<3

  • HUH? haha just joking 3/5

  • Pretty good- I think your soloist tried a little too hard.

Also, the choir needs to be a little louder...you can't hear them behind the instruments and soloist.

    Nice job, though!

  • <3

    Excellent work.

  • most definetly the best ive heard so far too

  • very good! i only listened to the first minute and 7 seconds but best ive heard. we're just as good as them.. and they did amazing!

but the tenor solo could have gone for the high note on the "le le le!" our tenor is!!

good job you guys.... but... VERRRY rude audience!!!!! you do not SCREAM at a professional concert. you wait until the end. shame on the audience members..

  • Agreed.

  • Really touching!!!!! MAN!! congrats, i wish i was part of it! really good!

  • oh man, this was the most incredible thing--so amazing in real life, you could feel the chills of everyone in the room--so incredible

  • Great choir and soloist! The band/orchestra was... meh. Nonetheless, amazing song.

  • yeah, the soloist is definately the best ive seen out of all the videos.

  • The best I've heard so far. My choir is doing this for our upcoming concert. I am in love with this song.

  • My choir is singing this song this spring. we just started learning it last week. But this choir sang it wonderfully. It gave me chills. And this arrangement can actually be purchased in SATB form and its the Civilization Video Game version.

  • That trumpet after 1:10 gives it slightly different mood and it's very interesting. Can't help myself I heard Spanish vivacity inside it. Cool song and beautiful interpretation indeed.

  • good strong soloist for this song, I've seen and heard versions that can't get one.

  • It's really wonderful to hear choirs performing Baba Yetu, and this is easily the best non-professional rendition that I've heard.

  • beautiful,very good,awesome :O

  • I'm just curious to know, who arranged this for choir and orchestra, it sounds wonderful!

  • <333

  • very good performance.

  • Extremely beautiful.

  • I speak Swahili, have attended Catholic mass in Kenya and Tanzania have sang all Baba yetu versions I could think of, but Valencia Hs Choir made a difference I can't help tears of joy seeing young people embracing diversity and singing for our most high God. May God bless all of you who have contributed in this great video.

  • Obama should have this on his inauguration as a tribute to his kenyan ancestry.

  • Exelent! Great job!

  • this is my fav!!! great job

  • Very nice job. My school is doing this song and i hope they do as well as you guys did

  • By far the best performance of Baba Yetu I have ever seen!! Great job! Although, as a trumpet player myself, I would suggest removing the trumpet from the chorus. Even if it was more staccato and on time, I think it would still sound bad at the chorus. Otherwise, phenomenal performance of a very difficult piece!

  • i agree, cut the trumpet part, but otherwise it sounds phenomenal.

  • You just have to love Jr's voice. Its so good!

  • this song is so magical! it gives me chills every time!

  • the lyrics are translated as the lords prayer.

  • Amazingly done. Awesome job. 5/5

  • wow... i just gotta say you guys are amazing.. we're singing this song with all the highschool choirs and its ah-mazing. and we're really good and we go down to florida from jersey every year and take first in everything... even based on that, u guys are awesome. keep up the good work!

  • my school is doing this song in december and all 250 choir students are singing...its gonna be amazing.

  • are you gonna video tape it? or have someone video tape it and put it on Youtube?

  • The VHS Choir would like to thank all of you who have provided us with wonderful compliments regarding our performance of this amazing song. We do love to read these comments and are proud that we have inspired many of you. Thank you for watching.

  • Out of all the choir performances that I have seen of Baba Yetu, I say this is as close to perfect as possible, especially at the climax at 1:48, which literally sent shivers down my spine. The only downside I could see was at times the instrumentation was a bit overwhelming, although that does lend a bit to the epic nature of the song. When I first heard this song on Civilization IV, I knew this was my favorite song, even though I know very little Swahili. It crosses race and culture boundries.

  • people in the beginning... STFU!

    beautiful btw!

  • OMG!! i'm really jelous of this choir. fine arts at my school SUCK! the adv. choir at our school is doing this song, i dropped out cause they suck and sound horrible, especially on this. good job though! i never thought a high school choir could ever sound so good! and the band is good too! i really think i would transer schools to your school for the fine arts if it's always this good!

  • this is really good

but the main part of the choir is almost drowned out by the music...

  • i watch this everyday:]

can't wait for our concert on tuesday

    wooohoo go vhss!!

  • I managed to sync this with the original, it sounds SO AWESOME!

  • i would realllllly love to hear that if possible. i was singing in this choir. and i wanna know how close we were to the real thing =]

  • hi, i'm in a choir thats doing this song right now. It is a Magnificent piece, its easy to learn though.

  • Magnificent piece.. Baba Yetu should be the Earth Planetary Anthem

  • Indeed

  • When Earth is united as one, this WILL be our theme song.

  • my choir is doing this song and i'm so happy to learn it

  • no sorry wrong i mennt to comment on the north west chior vid

    this one was amazing perfect

  • I would have loved to see this live...my choir did this song and everyone loved it. it was amazing.

  • Was the orchestra also a high school orchestra? If so, they did a VERY good job with this!

Probably the best school choir one on YouTube.

  • I was a member of that orchestra last year as a sophomore. It was the Sinfonia along with elements from the VHS Tiger Regiment. Glad you enjoyed it. ;)

  • You know what i love about comments on choir videos? Everyone who comments on them says they either did it or are gonna and are proud of it. I personally did it and am proud we did. its such an insanely great song

  • art, youve outdone yourself this time.

    :D

  • soloist was very good.

my chorus is doing baba yetu this fall

    i hope its this good

  • great i love it its the best from your highschool and you guys out sang shiloh middle school

  • i luv this song! we did this at my school 2!

  • our school is singing this!!!

  • i love this songgggg<3

we're doing this song at autrey mill middle school and i can't wait to sing it!!

    btw veryyyyyyyy well doneeee

  • yeah, this is really good compared to A LOT of other videos of this song i've seen.

my high school show choir is doing this as our opener this year. hopefully we do it justice.

  • wow bravo! by far the best done by a high school! just a few nitpicky things, coming from a composer/brass player.

-The trumpet/trumpets were out of tune. this starkly contrasted with the vocals.

-there seemed to be a complete and utter absence of flute.

-the underwhelming french horns took away from the emotion and intensity of the peice

The vocals were great, and the soloist was the best i've seen for this song having not being directed by Tin himself.

  • my god complete ditto.

especially the piccolo. too much bass, not enough sugar at the top of the sound pyramid -something i'd never thought i'd ever say.

otherwise, it was pretty epic! good job (y)

p.s.: baskilisk, i think you mean overwhelming french horns, and basilisk :)

  • i have watched this everyday for like, ever

  • im requesting to my choir director that we sing this even though we're not a school choir

  • Simply beautiful.

  • They really sound like they know what there saying

  • the solo dude was good just needs more emotion

  • wow... this is one of the best i've heard from a High School Group... amazing... great job!

  • a truly beautiful song, but i really wish people would not scream and applaud in the middle of a song, even though the soloist sounds great. It really makes people miss the whole masterpiece. Great performance.

  • do you have the sheet music from this song???

  • Yes, we have sheet music for this song. We purchased it from Mr. Tin himself. Check his website to purchase it or contact him.

  • I got goosebumps listening to this. Very well done.

  • simply amazing!

  • Greetings from Kenya, I'm swahili speaker and honestly this is a great piece of work, thanks Valencia HS Choir.

  • Does Swahili have like a Roman alphabet like English and other European languages or does it have like an African alphabet or symbols? Beautiful language by the way...

  • unforunately, it does not have African alphabets or symbols....

  • This is such a beautiful version of a beautiful song...which, in itself, is a beautiful version of the Our Father.

  • My Choie did this this Year. It was great. The song remindsa me of Disney lol

  • O.O I. Love. It! The soloist was PERFECT for the tenor solo! Just breathtaking!

  • A masterpiece indeed! Great work!

  • Hallelujah! What a masterpiece! I intend to contact our local high school's talented chorus teacher...

  • THEY SOUND AMAZING

  • The spoke the swahili like naturals.

Bravo guys, I'm proud of you.

  • Damn. That was a nice rendition, i wish West Ranch did the same song with our choir...Anyone from WRHS play civ4? xD

  • O MY GOD, this song has never and will never be nearly close to as good as this rendition of it is!!!!!!!

  • Wow. Absolutely THE BEST high school performance of this song I have ever seen. Bravo! This makes me proud and I don't even know any of you! Just beautiful. Astounding. Such a moving piece. But you all know that by now I'm sure.
