  • Great Job man! I'm thinking about rebuilding mine also. How much did you spend just in the engine build it self?

  • Great Job...*** Excellent***

  • Good job...I really digg the fact that you did all the work yourself instead of getting raped by some shop. Wish I had that same automotive knowlege to know how to work on my '94 Z28

  • @WhoIsKashMcFlyy thanks man i really appreciate that... i really didn't have a choice when i blew the head gasket. Plus I really wanted to know more about the LT1's so me and a couple buddies tore it apart! Its honestly not bad at all!!! I think LT1's are one of the easiest engines to work on. I now have a 6 speed ls1 camaro with an ms4 cam and it hauls ass but a well built LT1 ain't no joke!!!

  • hey dude check out my lt1 rebuild video mines going in as we speak ill upload a video of it runnin, yours looks awesome, love that idle

  • @MOTiVATEDxDEViL hey thanks! Your car is clean as hell!!! What kind of transmisssion you goin with? Also, whats all done to your lt1?

  • @HellenKeller9 I got a brand new 700r and its got aluminum angle plug heads cam 495 lift 650cfm Rochester carb

  • @HellenKeller9 a 700r, stall, the Lt1 has aluminum angle plug heads, cam 495 lift, everything inside is brand new besides the crank.

  • hey man cool vid. i am looking to drop an lt1 into my 88 firebird. shoould be fun!

  • how did you tune the computer to run the cam and different head setup

  • did u balance the rotating assembly?

  • @junior17817 no balancing... after this build i put forged pro comp i-beam rods and forged keith black 2 valve relief pistons... still didn't balance it and it ran great!!!

  • what kinda cam did you get cus im rebuilding mine and it has a procharger and i wanna run a cam as well

  • how much power is she putting down? i am lookin to buy a lt1 based car and kinda wanna idea of what to expect

  • @TheBears84 haven't had her dynoed tuned yet. It's an automatic with a big stall so as far as numbers to the ground they are not going to be as high as a 6 spd. Big stalls usually loose 25-35% through the drivetrain. I'm not concerned about the numbers... I just want to run 11's.

  • sounds great you will have a lot of fun when you run against and beat a ls1

  • how much did this all cost cause i wish to do a rebuild as well and i have a 94 camaro lt1

  • @cheartw at the time without rebuilding the transmission, or buying pistonsit was $250 for cam, $250 for timing chain set, $100 for lifters, $150 for rockers, $100 for piston rings, $80 for all bearings, and about $100 for all block work. Really its not that bad. I wouldn't rebuild the lower end unless you ABSOLUTELY need it. You can put a pretty wicked heads and cam combo in these cars for pretty cheap compared to everything else. Good luck with the build!

  • @HellenKeller9 so about $1100. i was planing on doing the whole thing. i plan to do all this and throw a centrifugal supercharger on it but put all forged pistons and forged everything else so it will be a pretty penny and a methanol injection system to increase my octant and later on do my rear end. what parts did u go with? i will just start with how u did it probably.

  • props to another sick LT1 build! Our underdog motors have more potential than LS1 people realize!

  • @hellcat320 thanks man! I have a different setup now and it runs pretty good! LS1's are absolutely amazing engines but the LT1 is no joke.

  • I was told I might have a blown head gasket bc I saw little puffs of smoke that was a little grayish coming from the manifold/valve cover area on my 94 impala ss. I think it could be an exhaust leak bc the manifold sounds like it makes the "tick" noise when it has a leak, they're pretty beat up so this might be the cause. Any advice?

  • @BigDually58 a bad manifold gasket will make a ticking noise (its awful). If it was a head gasket you would probably have coolant in your oil. Pull your oil plug out and see if any coolant comes out, or take off your valve cover and see if there is a disgusting beige gooey substance everywhere. Is the car smoking like crazy out the exhaust? Does it run hot? Are you loosing coolant? More than likely its just a manifold gasket... its very common on LT1s.

  • sounds nice! i see you have clear turning lights what color is the bulb?

  • very nice! whats your best 1/4 mile pass with that setup?

  • @ivanruiz89 well... the car is in need of a tune bad! I put 30lb injectors in it and had the computer recalibrated to accept the injectors, but the car needs to be dyno tuned. I've had it one the track once and it wouldn't shift until i got COMPLETELY out of throttle in every single gear. At about 5400 rpms the injectors/ignition was cutting out. So i managed a poor 13.2 at 106. My brother has the same setup but no tuning issues... he ran 12.7 with a terrible 1.60ft.

  • i was starting to think i was the only guy who removed a lt1, or ls1 through the hood anymore...

  • @benchmstr haha yeah... i wouldn't have it any other way

  • @benchmstr I DO lol

  • Comment removed

  • @JPARKERZ28 lol i laughed pretty hard when i saw you wrote "lloyd banks makes good kits". I'm sure you ment lloyd elliot. Isn't lloyd banks a rapper? I'm pretty sure he is. But yes lloyd elliot is the way to go. His prices are reasonable and he makes great hp.

  • @HellenKeller9 haha i fail... yea i was watching tv until my girl put on mtv and she wanted to watch some rap crap it was some loyd banks music vid... i can't believe i typed that in... i am such an idiot

  • i did a head rebuild..how do i get the dipstick all the way in?

  • @captinsavenohoes yeah those dipsticks are a nightmare the first time you try to put it back in. You can't put it back in until the headers are bolted to the head although you probably figured that out already. Honestly all i did to get it in was have one person under the car and one person above the car push and twisting... unfortunatley that is about all you can do. What kind of heads did you go with?

  • @HellenKeller9 i was on a big budget so i just had them to a full rebuild with mild port thats it...

i was going to do them stock but the dude like me and was like ill do some porting for you and he said i will get a extra 25 hp for the porting he did and will vacumm leaks i felt the difference

i dont plan on keeping the motor going ls2 in a few months

  • how much would u charge 4 a job like this??

  • @Kingofnorthside i would not do the lower end... if you need a cam or heads i could do that. If your trying to get a random quote on a whole rebuild it cost me about 1200 but that was EVERYTHING, even stuff that i didn't need. You could re-ring one of these bad boys for about 500 if not less. Thats including all the gaskets, bearings, etc.

  • @HellenKeller9

Hey man i was just wondering i read the end there, when it said what u used, why did u go hypereutectic over the stock flat top forged pistons? i own a lt1, and i know that those cranks are especially balanced for a lighter top end (forged), so u have a chance that u might snap your crank. not to mention forged is much stronger.

  • i have a 98 camaro and im wanting to put a lt1 or ls1 in it would it fit right in or do i need to do some cuttin and stuff.

  • @MrStumpy53 i would go with an LQX engine... it is basically a ls series engine but has a iron block and accepts the same heads blah blah etc that any ls would. tad heavier then an ls1 but can handle gobs of boost or spray and can be found for as little as 800 bucks on ebay. but really if money is a concern it is way cheaper to buy a z28/ss unless your real handy with a wrench and familiar with a good parts distibutor... but would make for a fun project... good luck bro

  • I bought a 1994 Caprice. It came stock with a 4.3 V8 265. that's what the sticker on my car says. The guy who I bought this car from said he did a motor swap on it, I guess the other one was blown. This mechanic, might not have known the 4.3 (L99) existed so he replaced it w/ what my new mechanic thinks is a 5.7. The car now only runs on 6 cylinders instead of 8. I just came back from the junkyard and bought 2 new ECM computers hoping to fix the problem. How do I know it's a LT1 & not a L99?

  • Good work sounds good.

  • good work I hope to see new vid .

    keep up

  • Does anyone know any good tuning places? I'm in NEED BAD!

  • @HellenKeller9 im also need my computer tuned for my trans am can you let me know the place and the price to have it tuned when you find out

  • @HellenKeller9 pcmforless...........com

  • @HellenKeller9

Hey man i own a lt1 myself and im just curious as to why u chose hypereutectic over the stock flattop 10.5:1cr forged pistons just would've had to go .030, not to mention the crank in an lt1 is specially balanced for the lighter top end, u have a chance u might snap ur crank. ive seen it happen.

  • @thisisfake agreed sir... the setup in the video lasted about 600 miles due to a lifter collapsing and damn near ruining the whole block. I went with the hypereutectic pistons because they were cheap and this was a budget build and at the time I didn't know ANYTHING about engines. I now have forged keith black flat tops (2 valve relief), forged I-beam rods, and ported/polished heads. Car is in need of a tune but so far its holding up great!

  • @HellenKeller9 Good stuff man!, nice choice, ive actually got my z28 on a hoist right now, doing a rebuild, not sure exactly yet but probably gonna go 383 stroker, with all forged internal 4340, some nice ported and polished heads, (lt4) along with the lt4 intake, but im just not sure what cam to get....ive been reading for over 3 weeks and still cant decide on a cam, i heard the xfi stuff kills springs, unless u get a really really good set, so im leaning toward cc503, or cc306. or maybe xfi280

  • @thisisfake comp cams makes a 280H which is a very lopey idle 280* dur and .480" lift

  • @HellenKeller9 My 94 Z28 needs tuned as well. LMK if you find some one to tune yours.

  • no head work??

  • there isn't a hole for a distributor for this kind of engine? does a cam with the gear for distributor fits??

  • @XxMusclecarsxX the distributor fits in the center of the cam and the dowel pin on the cam is longer than the usual cam because it has to spin the rotor in the optispark

  • @HellenKeller9 but can you fit traditionnal heads or cams that would have fit for exemple a 1969 camaro?

  • @HellenKeller9 no... the older ones didn't have a gear driven water pump. As far as the heads I really don't know...

  • oi

cool rebuilt did you use high performances parts or anything like that ?

i wanna do this sometimes did you use cams or rockers or anything like that

let me know how it came out i wanna add cam and rockers and stuff

    the end

    :P

  • I would have sprung for the MSD opti-Setup. Nice woork, tho.. :D

  • @35057 actually the MSD opti have been proven to be less effective than the stock OEM replacement.

  • @HellenKeller9 ahh.. I'm not much up on LT1 tech, but I've heard the main problem with the stock opti is that it overheats and the MSD is supposed to have a better vent system.

  • @35057 yeaht thats what I thought until my brother ran into problems with it... the stock one works the best... my opinion.

  • @depends what year i think they changed it in 97 good thing thats the year of my maro

  • Congrats on the rebuild. My 95 Formula blew head gaskets last year at 230K. A friend and I re-built 'er. Took it out the top with intake to manifolds still on cause we had no hoist. It was tight. Had to tip it vertical. Just rebuilt it stock. A $400 complete gasket set is all you need to buy, but its weeks of cleaning, sanding gasket surfaces and painting, I had a shop manual. After running it I had to re-adjust the valves. Lifters had no oil from sitting too long. Not too difficult.

  • nice rebuild,,hope that ws not an summit opti,,,,,,,,if not crank trigger,,,dynaspark ftw

  • no its not a summit optispark... I just put the sticker on it because I was bored one night

  • im in the process of rebuilding my lt1, went with .030 over speed pro pistons hyperutectic , clevite bearings eagle cast crank, lt4 hot cam with matching valve springs, new optispark, super damper harmonic balancer 3.73 rear gear, aluminum drive shaft and and eldelbrock wet shot kit.

did you get rid of your EGR and Smog pump?

  • @mysterysk822892 yes. I don't like AL GORE

  • how much did you spend on the set up and whats it running with and with out nos on the 1/4 mile? gonna try to do that to mine probably start this coming month

  • I like how they took the motor apart when it was still in the car, ahhh youth...nice job btw , sounds nice...

  • @chowhound3 the reason we took the heads off the engine while it was in the car is because I wasn't for sure if I wanted to pull it out. Originally I was just going to pull the heads off and replace the gaskets but at the last second I decided to pull the whole thing.

  • ive replace the o2 sensors a year ago.. i think its the exhaust leak coming out off the manifold an all the exhaust escaping is screwing with the o2's but im gonna do a budget top end rebuild and im ordering a cam.. did ur car run at the first start up? im going .550 intake and ,546 exh. to much you think?

  • Does anyone know where i can get a cheap set of stock lt1 heads? I have an burned exhaust valve. causes a vacuum in the exhaust.

  • ebay

  • song name

  • down and out by tantric

  • my impala has a misfire i cant get rid of i replaced the opti-crap and the plugs and wires, the fuel injectors are only a year old so did your car do the same before u blew the head gasket?? thats what ive heard a head gasket could cause a misfire

  • Sounds like an O2 sensor. Try replacing them and then see what happens. A blown head gasket would not cause your car to mis-fire. Sounds like the only thing you have left is either O2 sensors, EGR stuck open, or adjust your rockers (if they've been adjusted before). Good luck! Let me know how it goes! Try replacing the O2 sensors first...I bet thats your problem.

  • so can a bad cam or tweaked valve

  • did you pull the motor out the top? if so how hard was it.

  • Yeah the motor came out of the top. It was not hard at all. Take out your bellhouse bolts, motor mount bolts, take off your intake, and remove all electrical and pull her out!

  • did you gain hp or did it stay about the same, i was thinking about doing that to my 93 camaro z28

  • let us no some 1/4 times and dyno stats im about to replace head gaskets on my 97 lt1 ta any hints/tips? sounds good man!

  • quick question what other year 4L60E transmissions can i use on my 94 camaro z28 with a LT1 ? i have a automatic (unfortunately).. but im curious what other years can i use that will bolt up and work with no issues..?

  • a 4L60E will work out of 1994-1997 firebird/camaro. 1993's won't work because they came with the 700r4

  • i might by an lt1 for my Firebird yes Firebird not trans am :/

Looking to make it a trans am and the engine

is 500 bucks with 70k miles on it

with no tranny so is this a good buy?

and do you recommend me buying it?

  • I use to have a v6 firebird and I always wanted to put the LT1 in it but its just not worth it... Sell your car and get a formula/ trans am/ camaro with an LT1. Its actually cheaper that way. As far as buying an LT1 for $500, yeah thats a really good deal!

  • sounds fucking awesome man

  • how much that rebuild set you back?

  • about 1700 for everything

  • how much HP shot of nitrous you was use?

  • I never sprayed the new setup but when the engine was stock I sprayed a 125 wet shot. I have the engine out of the car again... this time it got forged rods and pistons so I can spray away!

  • whats the difference btw forged and hyper pistons?? whats the name of this song in the vidoe??

  • hyper pistons have a lower melting point. Forged pistons are the best... mine now has forged keith blacks with forged procomp rods. The name of the song is Down and Out by Tantric

  • in the video the block was bored .030 over. It is now bored .060 over. If your cylinder walls are fine then I would even bother but if you do then I'd bore it .030 over.

  • im thinking about getting federal forged pistions. it comes with the lt1 350 rebuild kit from summit racing.. did u have urs machined? and if u did how much? im thinking im gonna go .030 over bore.. id love to convert it to a 383 stoker but i dont kno what internals are different

  • that idle sounds sweet .. i just bought an Lt1 that was in a wreck buick roadmonster for like $170 i just tor it down to the block and im ready for the machine shop.. I want mine to sound like urs do u have advice for me? i also have a 96 impala ss with the same LT1 motor theyre great motors : )

  • Make sure you have every part and gasket ready to go when you start building it. Also I don't recommend press fit wrist pins... get floating wrist pins. If you want your to sound like mine then you need comp cams 503 camshaft. If you get that cam you need springs that can handle that much lift so I recommend comp cams behive springs that can handle up to .650 lift. Sounds like you have a great taste in engines! They are a great motor indeed and pretty easy to build. Good luck with your build!

  • Also don't get hyper pistons! Get forged! Its worth the money! Mine has forged pistons and rods in it now.

  • that's a good Job man

  • Hey man great build i'm a 18 year old and to this is a dying sport its sad but i've got a 94 z28 I've been doin a bunch of work on the only thing i got left is the motor and suspension and i'll have it built. Im 383 stroking it with all forgerd internels cause im going to put a procharger on it but i seen you just pulled the intake and heads then pulled the motor from up top rather than out the bottom do you think it was easier that way?

  • yes! You can have the heads off of that engine in a couple hours. I recommend pulling it out the top!

  • how long did it take you to do the full rebuild

  • about 4 months every weekend but I was waiting on parts and in school. I'm in the process again becuase I had a wrist pin pop out and nearly ruin the block. The local machine shop admitted it was their mistake so they are doing all the block work. Now I'm just waiting on some keith black pistons and I'm ready to put it together again.

  • I like that low idle sound

  • Nice build, tuned or not sounds good hope mine sounds half that good I'll be happy

  • That thing sounds horrible... I'm sorry but it sounds like it idles a bit low, maybe the mix needs monitoring.. But I'll tell you this, that engine setup is sick!

  • yeah... it was untuned on the first startup. Thanks for your opinion...

  • about how much did the parts cost total??

  • about $1800 in the motor and $1000 for the transmission.

  • is it hard to rebuild an engine

  • its not too hard if you have the right tools. Plus it helps having someone there whos done it before.

  • sounds awsome how difficult and long to take it out from the top? I want to do it to clean everything and while its out make stroke it a bit

  • well... since I had school and work all through the week it took about 4 months every weekend. A lot of the time was waiting on parts though.

  • awesome job dude :) dont bottle it, it doesnt need it any more lol

  • wasn't really hard... just time consuming!

  • was it all hard and do you and your friends know some what on working on cars

  • Just wondering how come you didn't go with a 280 cam? Bad ass build tho..good job.
