  • so f...g sexy

  • god he's so hot!!!!!!!

  • in my opinion his "new" teeth ruin his charismatically look :(

  • don't you dare take my notes! classic!

  • 7 people didn't listen to what mommy said about Major Tom.

  • @denisethepainter. R u the same Denise from Orlando? If so, u rock!! And cute also! U did my kitchen in bamboo!!

  • He's obscenely sexy!!! Gorgeous-i love everything about him.

  • yr proper good Molly. x

  • @MrSophieo I can never work out how Molly got all those great interviews. Bowie is a actually interacting here, not doing his usual "show".

  • I'm sorry, but the "bored, unamused rockstar" bit for the most part is just that, a bit. BUT NOT FOR DAVID. He has enviable ability to stupify all query.

  • Wow what was he high on here?

  • Comes across as very likeable. The interviewer, good ol Molly Meldrum, was a ripe target for sending up but Bowie was good mannered throughout.

  • at times he is so intresting but other times he can just be a pop artists it is really a weird combination.

  • was his hair naturally dark brown then? he is gorggggeous

  • David Bowie is one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen!

  • God, I'd kill to see him act live in theatre.

  • i wonder what he's eating

  • @DaphPota18 I think he still did some drugs well into the 80s, but at a much more moderate level than in the mid 70s.

  • i love his teeth before he got them fixed. he's got the most gorgeous smile, and the teeth added character haha.

  • He's right about Aladdin Sane sounding better in retrospect. That is one of the greatest Rock N Roll albums of all time. I grind against the bars on a subway train when I listen to it.

  • handsome guy, but his teeth are really ugly :S

  • @jaspreetroxable NO HIS TEETH ARE SOOOO BEAUTIFUL NOW YOU GO AWAY

  • @ofalltheranters HELL NOOO THEY'RE ALL BENT AND CROOKED/. but whatever. he's still hot

  • yeah his teeth added character loved him in labyrinth so multi talented. Wish I'd seen this looks awesome.

  • smoulderingly sexy.....sigh

  • He's so cute. I love him, he looks good with his fixed teeth but i love his crooked smile and smirk so yummy haha -giggles- For some reason alot of people like the crooken smile...i have crooked teeth kind of and people tell me they think i'm beautiful and have a nice smile and to not change anything and i'm like....but they bug the fuck outta meXD

  • David Bowie=Legend

  • The way he smiles at 0:06 is just so beautiful. What can I say? David defidently takes my breath away!

  • Bowie is a joke, a very good one.

  • Anyone ever notice he always seems uptight at beginings of interviews but quickly softens up usually with humor by the end? Just a thought.

But wow! Sooo attractive! Always has been, hopefully always will be. And amazingly poetic and unique music!

  • 4:16 ... god, I love this man.

  • david bowie is a trully gentleman.apart every year that pass he looks more young than ever

  • how old was he than?

  • He was 33 in 1980

  • @sawbird Holy crap he's old now, but he's still hot

    THANK YOU ^_^

  • @sawbird How old was he in '81?

  • 4:15 bit hypnotic there

  • A great period for Bowie...for me that period remains his most exciting work and possibly the quintessential Bowie sound. Though Bowie is still thought of as the Ziggy persona, the references 72-75 are still very much American whereas his work 76 through to 80 has to me personally a greater appeal due to its experimentation and 'wordly consciousness'. As relevant and influential today as it was extraordinary then.

  • Couldn't have put it better myself. You should be writing rock critiques - seriously.

  • @Ashley999Thorpe 76-70 WAS bowie it was just absolute genius! i defy anyone not to love station2station and low.

  • Believe everything I say...especially the lies:)

  • the storm outside with this is very beautiful

  • David Bowie possesses, was born with, the most sexual, sensual, delicious, delectable lips, teeth and eyes that I have ever ever, ever seen. And so very desire.

  • He shouldn't have had his teeth fixed

  • I thought I was the only one who thought that! I loved his jagged little teeth. lol.

  • @sawbird

Absolutely not! His teeth make his face soo unique.

  • @sawbird I agree. He was much sexier and interesting without "conforming." I used to love his lips - now I'm not so sure.

  • @sawbird Indeed ! He shouldn't ! The real teeth made him looks charming younger ! ... and the "S's" sounded much better !

  • @sawbird I agree.

  • @sawbird I thought it was only me thinking that way. I like his natural teeth better.

  • @MyCatWatchesMe I love his teeth!!!!! and lips!!!!

  • He´s sooo beautiful, just the perfect male,

and I love his voice. He could talk about anything and that would sound interesting but he´s very bright so he has always something interest to say.

  • Why would YOU write something like that, because we Bowie fans care.

  • i agree, i would say more, however they are already missing the point

what would be the purpose of telling them how foolish they look ? is it not already evident their social lives are in the ruts

let them go on about the appearance of a musician ..why not its all the industry has left in popular culture

now that i mentioned it, i see way more comments about his look then his music

guess ill take the liberty of saying scary monsters was a pretty good album

  • @yunaxxx There's nothing wrong with liking the way David Bowie looks as well as sounds. Sorry but he just happens to have legions of female admirers who find him sexy as well as liking his music.

  • are you serious? did you respond to a single point of mine

anywho, his function in society would be more to make music (i would assume) then to simply provide a face for us to look at...or wait no you just tried to refute that ...alright then

did you not see the part where i mentioned that comments are not being made about the music as much about the look? or does this seemly logical fact fly right by your decency to retort an appeal of a "feeling based" comment

    read women read

  • may need to add a "to" or so in there

  • Bowie is one of the few muscians in which image and his look are important for his iconic stature. He's not like Dylan or Springsteen where he just sings and plays good music. People have been and always will be fascinated by the way he also looks .

This is why I responded to your post about people going on about his appearance rather than his music. I actually responded to most of the points you made. We ALL know he is one of the most brilliant music makers ever... but he looks damn good too.

  • Just because I´m talking here about his looks doesn´t mean that I haven´t talked about his music. I have all his officials albums and could talk endlessly about his music and I have. But this time I commented on his looks. So what, it doesn´t mean that my social life is in the rut or I´m foolish. I think you´re the foolish one.

  • He is beautiful, I loved his 80's look he was at his sexiest then

  • Isn't it funny how a composite portrait of the two left sides of his face yield an English Alain Delon, while the right sides would amount to Yootha Joyce? Try it at home or desolated bus stops ....

  • Well I'm seventeen so I guess that's a little different. smiles but yeah I am a huge David Bowie fan and I love all his work! David is rock!

  • Ah I wish I could have seen this play....If I abide by the rules,I will be happy. Lovely work~

  • Im a 15 year old girl too! Hahah, and guess what? I'm a David Bowie fan xD

  • Even if he was talking about spoons I would listen interessted every minut! I love him so.

  • I was starting to think the same thing. But then I'm always thinking I'm going insane.

  • lol ! Well this 50 year old man thanks you for posting this. 1980 was a great year for Bowie. I remember how proud I was of him for getting such acclaim for "The Elephant Man". I never saw it. I couldn't afford a trip to New York. I'm suprised nobody ever taped a full show.

  • haha :p Actually I'm also 15...

  • same here. i just turned 15 and have been a David Bowie fan for a long time, golden years is one of my fav songs.

he's so charming and sweet! I just love him!!

  • tha lamp is swinging in the backround....wild is the wind .lol

  • he's so sweet and so clever! and i love how his music is everlasting - im 15 and space oddity is one of my favourite songs :) absolutely brilliant!

  • anyone else see him eating throughout this? lol. i love him

  • So Beautiful!

I'm In Love With Him Since I Was 5!

    Now I'm 14!

  • Sounds illeagel.

  • i like his eyes , different color

    so beautiful

  • Actually no, they are both the same color, but one of his pupils is permanently dilated due to a punch when he was about 15. It gives an illusion. :)

  • 4:38 when he laughs ^_^ and 4:18 when he has his tounge out and then he quickly put it back in like hes all embarressed :)) i love this man. i REALLY want to meet him :D

  • don't you feel some butterflies in your stomack when you look at him? i'm so adoring bowie!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Labirynth is the best film ever

  • It's a long time since I've watched somebody who's character and mentality is so interesting. He seems so cool in the interviews but he's obviously engaging with the interviewer and not being surreal for the sake of it. He's an interesting mix of eclecticism matched with a very keen intelligence. It's still a peculiar juxtaposition how a man who has been so successful both in the media and financially can come over like he isn't really bothering to try.

  • David Bowie is a very natural actor. He turned very handsome in the 80's from where he looked a bit sickly in the 70's.

I love the English nobleman in an exotic land persona he had in the 80's also. He had a genius way of reinventing himself.

  • no.

  • such a quick mind

  • Happy Birthday David, Please tour and make an album , we miss you !

  • How illuminating this man has been on an inspirational part to the timeless creative universe!!!! Ah how i would adore his presence! Happy sixty-three years my roll model!

  • Can't express in words how much I love David Bowie and his music!

  • Good.

  • classic !

  • Quel homme !

  • He looks tired, very tired.

He's a bit flat, unusual for him.

  • Bowie is one of the coolest stars ever!!!!!

    He can do no wrong......

  • i actually love David Bowie. he rocks!

  • 'Don't you dare take my notes.' LOL Rock on Bowie! :-)

  • How come at the beginning, the interview says. welcome to Australia. Then it says NEW YORK 80? That has always confused me.. Where is this interview taking place? Maybe the play NY, interview Australia?

  • It takes place in a New York Japanese restaurant, but it's an Australian TV show so he says "welcome to Australia". The interviewer is known for saying strange things.

  • the interviewer is known for being drunk

  • beau.ti.ful.

  • In this interview, everything about him drives me crazy

  • FANTASTIC. I've always wanted to see his performance in Elephant Man, these stage clips are priceless. Really. THANK you!

  • Awesome upload & very rare! Thanx!

  • Is there really no full video of David Bowie in the Elephant Man? :(

  • Sadly, no. I'm sure a film exists and I'm sure Bowie has it (he keeps everything). But I haven't heard of any plans to release it.

  • Well that makes me sad. :( I love already love theater and David Bowie separately, so both together would be a dream come true.

  • Typically idiotic questions from Meldrum.

    God he sucks.

  • Cool performance in the elephant man .. and he was clean !!!!!

  • what a difference 5 years and no coke makes ...in 1975 he was 40 pounds thinner and seeing people fall out of windows in his hotel room

  • He's very appealing.

His gestures make him very appealing and interesting.

  • sorry didn't mean to post that twice

  • David is so cute when he tries to take those notes away! I love him so much he is the best! He always will be the best. He is so hot an awesome and hot. I hope he makes more music soon. David Bowie rocks!

  • OMG David is so cute when he tries to take those notes! I love him so much he is the best! He always will be the best. He is so hot and awesome and hot! I hope he does more music soon. David Bowie rocks!

  • Wow! I didn't realize there was any footage of Bowie as the Elephant Man. I've been waiting to see that clip for about 25 years.

  • take me David! take me now!!! :)

  • You know, I've loved David for years - loved his style, loved him - but I 'd never really noticed what a gorgeous smile he has. He's a great man!

  • Oh my God he's so perfect, so beautiful, and his smile is the most gentle, the most nice smile I've ever seen! I LOVE HIM!!

  • HOT.

  • cool !!

  • Marry me David!

  • Odd to see him in brown hair, look fine doh.

  • David is the best. He is an attractive, sweet, actor/songwriter/performer. I love him.

  • How did he get discovered and become famous?

  • From 1964-66 he played in a number of rhythm and blues bands in the UK with very little success. Finally had a hit in 1969 with "Space Oddity". Had difficulty following it up until he created a rockstar character called Ziggy Stardust, built a band and album around it, toured it to death and went supernova by the end of 1972. By the time of this interview he'd done his best work.

  • whatever.. I love let's dance, outside and earthling

  • he was singin great five years ago, he can sing now, and he could always act.

    David Bowie= ultimate musical chameleon.

  • don't agree, outside, earthling and heathen had not ben recorded yet and are three of a perfect pair

  • WTF IS THIS elephant man thing? Can someone explain!!!!! I'm only 18 and new to bowie so I don't know very much. I loved him in the labyrinth.

I wish we had these kind of artists still today.

  • The Elephant Man is a wonderful play written by Bernard Pomerance, and it's based on the life of a deformed man named John Merrick (Bowie played Marrick). If you don't want to read the book, see the movie with Anthony Hopkins. It's one of my favorite movies, but I highly reccommend you read the play first. It's such a great play.

  • so why's bowie doing it? Was it like broadway :S

  • Yeh, he just wanted to try out acting in a play. Simple.

  • all of the clips from the elephant man are so moving, that must have been a very hard role to play and it looks asthough it was so simple. its beautiful, and i got a little teaty. hes so talented.

  • "oh don't you take my notes"

    lovely Bowie!!

  • wow! the cutting up of paper with three different aspects of one subject is interesting and can be a way of looking at life at times, for some?

  • hes such a great actor!

  • does any one kno where i can get a copy of the play w/ bowie playing in it? i'd love to see it!

  • Unfortunately, only parts of the play were shot (or at least broadcast). So there is no complete tape in circulation. Not to my knowledge anyway.

  • For everyone who claims Bowie was on drugs here you should know tha the kicked the habit after Station to Station and was totally clean by 1979

  • I think Meldrum sounds more like he's about to take an exam on "The History of David Bowie" and he's quickly jotting down all the answers by asking Bowie himself, rather than doing an interview. He rapidly goes through each of the Bowie eras, but doesn't seem interested in the answers.

  • That was always the problem with Molly. The questions were more like statements (often overlong - watch an interviewee's face as Molly tries to complete his question). There was no logical flow to the conversation as Molly never understood the responses, often interrupting them to get to his next pointless question. You can understand why Bowie suggest they discard the question sheet.

  • Well said. And I wonder how these people get to interview people on television. I could do a better job! At least he isn't deliberately insulting like Russell Harty.

  • elephant man footage is priceless.

  • lol...2 ciggs in 9 minutes :]

    he's a legend...smoking AND singing :D

  • He doesn't smoke anymore today

  • I liked his acting in The Last Temptation Of Christ.

  • AHA! I only read the discription after I had watched the video and I knew it was Miso he was sippining into the interveiw. I never knew he played in a play How dare I call myself a fan. Haha well what good show.

  • I saw Bowie in Chicago in The Elephant Man. He was excellent. Worked much better than his film acting, and this was a very tough part, requiring a tremendous amount of focus, and subtlety.

  • so in the elephant man david bowie plays the weirder guy?

  • He plays THE elephent and, also know as John Merek(need spellcheck)

  • DAVID BOWIE IS A GR8 MUSICIAN 2.

  • Bowie is one of the greatest actors of our time.

  • I cant quite agree. I dont know why but his acting in the movies isnt anything more than average aside from the labyrinth but then I see his play whitch is absolutly astonishing. Maybe its a conflict of intrest?

  • I agree. It is the world's great loss. He is a superb actor. One of the greatest, perhaps the greatest. Sad thing is, back then, if you were a musician already, no one took you seriously as an actor. Especially if you were David Bowie. No-one who did not live back then knows how very very shocking he was in the 70's. He was marginalized, he was the epitome of everything that people feared and did not understand. Words cannot convey how very unreal he was artistically. It was da da

  • Yes that's true but some part of this "unreality" were simply musicians he worked with. For example Fripp's guitar or Eno's electronics. Bowie would never make this on his own.

  • Thanks for posting this. Bowie still remains one of the greats.

  • Ah, this is so beautiful...I was transfixed at the age of 3 when I saw this on TV. Thanks sawbird! x

  • I'm actually more impressed with the eloquence of the insults on this page than anything.

its so refreshing to see people using a nice vocabulary rather when arguing online, rather than talking like retards while ARGUING ONLINE.

    oh irony.

  • What is it with these miserable little,exhaust-sucking, botched lobomty rejects imposing their pathetic ignorance onto thoughtful, and creative artistic posts? There's no shortage of compatible, like-minded,leech-sucking inbred scum out there to bond with. Wrong turn lads!! Go south, and you're a mere flush away from drowning in your own collective ahem....fluids, bon voyage.

  • why is he acting like that??

  • what the fuck?

  • Did the intended context get lost somewhere sawbird? I was responding to the botched lobotomy who thought David was coked up in the interview, I have zero tolerance for ignorance and lies. Are all systems go now? Excellent then, I wouldn't want the truth to evaporate into the symbolic ether, cheers.

  • Yes, Spark, I see the know-nothing remark now. YouTube is clogged with ignorance from a generation of kids who think everything that came before them is rubbish. It is a result of a style of parenting fashionable in the 80's called "empowerment of the child". Now they're empowered adolescent misanthropes.

    "Diss" away, kids.

  • Well, I'm in middle school and have an obsession with David Bowie and the 80s and I'm not ignorant. In fact my next birthday party is 80s themed and I would do anything to actually live through the 80s, exspecially 1983.

  • invite some people that lived through the 80,s as young dudes, people acually liked each other in those days no fighting at home party,s good times i meet bowie myself in 1983 he is a true artist good stuff

  • Did you actually meet Bowie in 1983? Just living through that year (and remembering it) gets you in my book!

  • sure did,i filmed him on my home movie camera and gave him a kiss {i,m female} this happened at the airport it's good to know that this kind of music will live on because of you younger people out there i must respect you for that

  • Thank you! I would love to meet him. Is he charming? Is the video on YouTube by any chance?

  • Um, I'm 15 and I adore David Bowie(though I must admit I liked his music in the early 70s far better than his 80s stuff). We think everything that came before us was rubbish? No way man. Its the stuff that we have now that's rubbish. It was "before us" that music was actually good. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

  • out of every generation/ years comes at least a couple bands that are great, you just need to open your mind

  • i agree

  • im 15 too. and i totally agree with you =]

tho there is stuff we have now that i love.

  • cool!

    what stuff exactly?

I mean I can occasionally find stuff I sort-of like in an ish sort of way. But I can find nothing that even closely compares (in my mind anyway) to people like David Bowie.

  • WTF...Been sucking on deisel exhaust again mate? (hint)witness the lucid and articulate man during yet another critically acclaimed segment of his astonishing career.John&Yoko were loyal friends. Bowie has more talent in his left testicle, than the entire genepool of your inbred ancestry, lol.

  • On drugs or off who are we to judge. This man is stunning and talented. There isnt anyone like him.

  • look at bowie, the cóked up ísolátion tóád from néptune. lennon would have laughed at him
