some of those were only rated to about 525 hp ,,, it may not do as bad on fuel than most think ,,, we had some off highway trucks at work ,, the one with a 12v did the best on fuel
@Desmodromic916 -- 12V71 means it has 12 cylinders of 71 cubic inches each. That adds up to 852 CI, or about 13.9 liters.. Detroits are 2 cycle engines so they put out more horsepower per CI than 4 cycle engines. My last truck was an International ("cornbinder" in trucker language) with a 6V92 that put out 335 HP. 2 cycle Detroits aren't built anymore since Daimler Benz bought Detroit Engine Division.from General Motors Corp. No big loss, they were very thirsty and leaked oil like a sieve
My friends got the 12 pack running already but they are to busy for me to go down and shoot the video will see if they make some time I want hear that monster roar.
Stretching frames is my specialty...when it comes to trucks, especially when there's no glider kit involved. A lot more work to it than a glider...which involves cutting of what you don't need...as opposed to butting in what you do need...
@SteelKahuna We (My Dad and Brothers) have put together a few trucks ourselves there is nothing like the feeling you get when you can say you built yourself. From streching the frame to repowering or regearing or any mechanical on a truck.
That is what it's all about!!!! I got in some arguments with pipe welders who though they were the best on the planet. I explained that our projects go on the highway...some of these projects pull over 40 tons net weight on & off highway...
They wanna disrecpect me by swearing @ me, not realizing I can snap their necks w/a flick of my wrist...
This is actually my friends project. Your right it feels good when you go out and work with a truck you built . Your sure of all the components you used and all the sweat and long hours you put into it.Makes it worth while when you can say I put it together myself.
We had a few KWs with 12V71 in Australia, mostly W series but I know at least one was a cab-over on trans-continental express work in the 1980s, very fast truck.
@gm16v149 It originally had a Cumins. The 12v71 came off a W900a extended hood Kenworth.I like the way it's turning out . I will try to make and update video .
Cabovers were made to meet wheelbase restrictions here in North America for the highways here. Once most of those restrictions were lifted, the need for cabovers went away.

amartinez97 2 years ago
I wouldn't trust it my self but I've seen people in them when the cab is lifted.
hanks1961kw 2 years ago
because of more liberal overall length restrictions.
