Interestingly enough this is not a metal tube but a new composite airframe. Which makes this a massive achievement. I prefer to fly Boeing aircraft when I have a choice.
Don't get me wrong, it's an achievement; It's just that our current form of aviation is severely outdated. The fact that we're still flying around in metal tubes (the equivalent of the horse-drawn buggy) is an insult to human potential and industrialism. Much of flying also requires skill and technique as it is still a fairly manual process, but Things have got to change. Aviation should open up to everyone / Far more people should experience flight.
@Youbian Aircraft are no longer really manual crafts, most landing are now done by auto-pilot, as is 95% of the flight. Pilots still have an important role though. And there are more efficient ways of flying, like the flying wing, but the reason that isn't implemented is more social, not technical. Since people don't want to be 40 seats from the nearest window. And the equivalent of horse and buggy? The 787 might not look as different as other planes but it's whats inside that counts.
reducing of noise , and sound , too much electric components. let get electricity , the bearings also got clone , wish make it difficult to check the originals

Homophobes are usually borderline closet fags...just sayin'. Dudes who are so quick to label something as 'gay' for not being overtly robust and masculine have insecurity issues and are probably short in the pants...still just sayin'.
@kmdroell if anything this aircraft will be one of the most successful ever built..it is way more economical then any other aircraft built and I think Airbus have got it all wrong with the A380..Its to big and in the airline industry bigger is not better, its about cutting the cost and reducing the emissions and that's exactly what the 787 dreamliner will do..
@lenny820 But passengers are not goining tuo use such a gay plane ! I would rather swim over the Atlantic than fly with that pussy light blue 2engine Joke .......... It´s a shame .... Just for gay people !

this plane looks smaller than the 767 it was supposed to replace? i have waited a long time to see boeing's new bird, looks like a 737 with 777 engines on it, lol
I guess you have to see it flying and built to appreciate the beauty of planes, when I first saw how the wings were going to be I thought it was ugly same thing with the 380 I thought it was an ugly plane but now I think hat the 787 and the 380 are the most beautiful planes
Witam wszystkich. To jest naprawdę piękny samolot. Cieszę się, że Polska będzie miała ten samolot jedna z pierwszych. Mieszkam około 5 km od lotniska i nie mogę się doczekać oglądania go. Hello everyone. It is really a beautiful airplane. I am glad that Poland will have this plane one of the first. I live about 5 km from the airport and I can not wait to watch it.
shouldn't it have touched down a bit harder though to the weather conditions, there whas a big change of waterplanning. they have touched down with like -185 ft/min
while it should have been with over -200 ft/min. just GROUND CONTACT is the safest way to land in these conditions, not every soft landing is a good landing.
still, good landing for a first 787 landing, beautifull.
In flight the wings curve up because there's alot more composite material used in the 787. Wiki says in wing stress testing they were curved upward to 25 ft. The airframe is 3/4 composite (ie carbon fiber, etc.) Might see some heavy flexing in turbulence.
@SPYGUN011 concorde is made by boeing also, and the Concorde unfortunately can't fly anymore, so what's the point of saying that. The concorde is also the Boeing 2707, nicknamed concorde.

Of course, the 787 upwardly pointing wings are also aesthetically pleasing. Peace out.
@justtakeiteasy actually if you look up "wingtip device" on wikipedia there's a pretty good explanation of the various devices. the 787 has a "Raked wingtip" which supposedly reduces vortices, increases lift (without increasing drag), increases the effective chord length. Very similar to the curved winglet of the 737's, but slightly more efficient.
Will this airplane be famous for ultra smooth landings? What about high wind and turbulence? Will the plane still have the ability to land so smoothly?
common sense I suppose. Gut instinct. The stresses are far too high on a minimal number of points - it's inevitable. I'm going to say it - this aircraft is dangerous. I hope and pray people become aware of its congenital design flaws before people lose their lives.
How on earth did they not see it? Quite a few people have made comments about how strange the wings look - so it's pretty obvious to any casual observer. Why not boeing? Pride - vanity - denial?
Hey - I don't care if you believe me. A lot of life experience and a certain centered perception can indeed enable people who care enough about our world to view things outside the box of conventional thinking. In effect - there is no box. Human beings are wise until they learn not to be. God frustrates intelligence.
This is our world - we are entitled to take an interest in any part of it and express what our hearts tell us. I have that right. I'm no scientist just a human being.
I heard in one of the comments and information from previous research on the "dreamliner" - that boeing have out sourced a large percentage of the parts for this aircraft. Would that be part of a unified industrial platform as with airbus consortiums in germany/france/uk? or just companies making parts for whatever? I suspect generic manufacturers producing cheaper parts.
This is how Toyota cars ended up killing their passengers and hundreds of thousands of models are still being recalled.
One more point - I believe Toyota had quite a few scientists employed in the models that are now dangerous and defective.
Shareholders are not more important than passenger safety or the future of our world. Outsourcing is a dangerous affair with latent manufacturing anomalies as the contracts go to the lowest bidder to satisfy shareholder incentives.
