love your guides and stuff bro, just put a fenderwall into my 2000 impala last night, subbed bro, ps any idea how long it takes to change valve cover gaskets in a 3.8?
3 things GUARANTEED to happen to specifically 3800 GM owners: death, taxes, and intake manifold gasket replacement. I love the 3800, had a 1996 NA Olds 88 and I remember doing this to mine. You are correct, very time consuming to the meticulous. Good Luck with it and keep enjoying it, I miss mine(rusted out)
Easy but time consuming. As long as you have some help, a good set of tools and a chilton guide its straight forward. The hard part is just taking everything apart. My best tip is to label ziplock bags so you can organize which bolts go where.
Fenderwell is the way to go. I have a scanner so I was able to compare a fender well vs running an open cone and with an open cone I was getting 2* of KR more Vs a Fenderwell.
If you have a Regal its easy, If you have a grand prix your going to have to cut the fender brace.
LIM gasket is easy just time consuming. Especially if its your first time. Hope you have a few days off or a spare car =)
I need to get mine scanned for KR. I've got a GTP. I hope I dont have much KR. I've got a 3.5" pully, dhp pcm, colder plugs, 180 stat, high flow DP.
Toying with the idea of a FWI or headers.
I've done a few 3800LIM's but more 3100 LIM's. They are such a crappy design. (remove the pushrods to get the LIM gaskets out) Just waiting for a warm day to do mine.
With a 3.5 inch pulley, Fenderwell intake,3 inch downpipe, poly motormounts, intense pcm, colder plugs,180 degree tstat and highflow muffler I was getting about 2.5* KR.
When I put in a Short Stack intercooler I dropped down to a 3.2 inch pulley and I see 2* of KR but not until 100 mph or so.
I just got togs and need to put them in. Hopefully thatll kill the KR up top
My car didnt like the huge open cone right on the throttle body. I was getting massive KR with that set up and my IAT was 25 degrees hotter then the outside air.
Fenderwell intaks and the Iat is at most 5 degrees higher then the outside air

Me and my dad had to change his intake manifold gasket in his lumina twice with the 3100.

How do you like that fenderwell intake?
I was thinking about getting a JMB, but heard mixed reviews. Did you have to do any body modifications? Where did you get it?
BTW, I have to replace my LIM gaskets here soon too......

Yea, It's an on going battle about CAI/HAI/FWI. But with my scanner I see only about 10-15* higher temps than the ambient air temperature outside.
Im happy with a 50$ intake, and the filter was 45$, lol.
