My favourite song from the band. Happy days listening to this when I was a child. My two older brothers loved this group, and I remember an old radiogram in our sitting room, and putting this on when they were out. Brings it all back, and now sadly one of my brothers is no longer with us, so whenever I play this now on the cd player, hes with me, stronger than ever. Happy days indeed.
Datos libro The Beatles.
Well I saw Paul play at Hyde Park London last night, and he played a LOT of Wings songs - stunning version of Letting Go, which sounded as powerful as the Wings Over America '76 version, and about half the tracks from Band on the Run - some very rare tracks like Mrs Vandebilt, 1985 etc They sounded great, but perhaps one of the loveliest rarities was Ram On. I take it all back - Paul got the message to scrap the usual boring set list!! Still nothing from London Town or Back to the Egg though!
Why doesn't Paul play some of this material off London Town or Back to the Egg live, instead of the usual boring set?! It would be great to hear live after all these years!
a just question. i don´t know all of pauls solo albums, but this is my favourite,- it is really outstanding, and deliver your children especially. you can almost fell it was made on a boat!
Do you know what the songs about?
What does it mean when macca sings "well i was low on the money"?? :DD
@MoveOverCasanova I don't think this song really is about anything in particular. It's one of those songs McCartney writes in his sleep, with lyrics that sound good, Jet being another example. It's full of platitudes that sound profound (if you want good eggs you gotta feed that hen!), but don't add to any sense of story. I'm not dissing the song by saying this - I really love it. Sometimes lyrics like these that aren't literal work better on our right brains - we sort of intuit a meaning.
you sound like somebody knowing about how songwriting works! i agree with you! i just found the "low on money" pretty daring, but not not worth second thought, or as gabriel said - .. i talk in pictures not in words...
@WilburyVision true- not everything makes sense- I think sometimes its nice to listen to or write silly words instead of a billion love songs or sad stuff. you should hear the song "london Town"- talk about really random but awesome
No, I don't think it is literally boring. I love McCartney as a musician and performer. I have seen him 6 times over the years, since 1989, though, and what I meant was that his set is fairly predictable nowadays, with very few surprises. Large areas of his musical history and back catalogue - London Town and Back to the Egg in particular - are neglected.
@WilburyVision I think it's too sad of memories for him--for the first few years after Beatles breakup all 4 Beatles refused to play Beatles songs--Paul started Wings for that reason..o make new stuff, but after at least 3 Wings breakups/people leaving he had to feel the pain of the Beatles breakup all over again.
@4FabBEATLES Possibly you are right - there must be some reason for 77-80 bring a 'blind spot' for McCartney in his own musical history. However, he has played Coming Up, and you might think that song is associated with bad times - the Japan bust, Lennon's murder, and maybe the Wings breakup as you say. Another theory is that McCartney simply began to believe the critics of the day, and wrote off London Town and BTTE himself as poor albums. I wish he'd listen to what the fans say in 2010!
Denny is one of the nicest guys going. Shame how Macca treated him at the end. It was never clear what had happened to that relationship. Denny was lot closer to Paul in the 1970s and beginning of the 1980s then John ever was.
no offense to anyone or anything or Denny Leine, but i honestly can't believe that they would be closer than John and Paul. John and Paul knew each other since they were 15 and Paul helped John through his mom's death... and even after the beatles spit and they had that big feud John was caught wearing an "I love paul" button and someone asked him why and he said, "Cause i love Paul!" I think they were pretty close...
mccartney and wings were totally underated at that time, this stands up better than some of the rubbish that came out around 77 ..I was 16 where have the years gone !!!
well just wanted to say, i'm a huge beatles fan, and therefore everything that goes solo with it. "london town" is my favorite post beatle solo album. hard to believe maybe, but true
Denny actually contributed a lot to Wings. I asked him last night why as good as lead player he was he left the leads to others. Well, look at the caliber of the guys we had or words to that effect was his answer. Still, his harmonies and leads were just as good as Paul's were, except for "Juniors Farm", "Listen to What the Man Said", "With A Little Luck" and a couple of others. Denny was the cement on 'Band on the Run". Paul could have treated him better at the end, or even now.
Yeah, he's on tour with Badfinger's Joey Molland and an awesome band doing a complete performance of the Beatles' Abbey Road album, plus their own hits. Not sure where they are playing now. Might check Denny's MySpace.
@rockon1898 Denny's contribution was very significant - agree there. Regarding his treatment at the end, I understand Paul felt betrayed when Denny quickly left Japan after the bust, and moreso, when he sold his side of the story to the tabloid newspapers to make a quick buck. I don't think Paul forgives betrayal easily - you get one chance then you're out.
@TorpedoSam88 I agree that Denny Laine is almost criminally underrated - check out Time To Hide from Wings At The Speed of Sound / Wings Over America in particular - one of the best songs that Wings ever did!
London Town fue sin duda alguna uno de los albumes de mayor calidad que produjo Paul y su Grupo ( su hembrita y su pata Denny ). Derrocha calidad y creatividad renovada en cada tema del LP siendo el mejor de todos : With a little luck
