Because the DS lite isn't flimsy enough yet... (Ok it's not that flimsy but it will break if you drop it off a bunk bed. That may sound reasonable but my original DS has survived such an incident without a scar.)

3 ribbons, small battery, top screen has no support, the only way to hear the sound is to use a headphone coz i dont think a speak will fit on that thing.. just where where the speakers are..~_~ most of the gamers of NDS are KIDS! do you think parents will buy something too fragile for their KIDS? i got NDS, DSlite, and DSi and its all working.. but still i like DSlite more because of GBA slot which enables me to play guitar hero..^_^

They really should try this design. The screen shouldn't snap if you put enough support. but the only problem is the mother board. If you've seen the mother board of an actual DS it clearly will not work since the mother board won't fit. They might be able to compress it but I doubt it since the DSL is already pretty small
