  • Thank God she had the look and the voice, cos she was pretty "green" back in those days, huh??

  • This is better than anything from 2012!

  • She sure did this terrific Bob Dylan song proud. She reminds me a lot of my Scottish Friend, Carol.

  • This was quite a good song, I think. I would criticize her stage presence but then I must remember this was her first song (technically her second, but the first was in the 60s and it wasn't a hit). Thanks for sharing this interesting video!

  • Loved her then, and I love her now. A knockout that can sing like an angel. Thanks and Peace always...

  • Voice of an Angel.... Best Always and forever.

  • Great Job

  • Cute! I even love her forehead wrinkles.

  • What a beautiful voice and a very classy lady. I think she was nearly every guys dream angel back then. She is still beautiful, and the years have been kind.

  • Kind of think it was nasty for the Country Western world not to accept her into their folds.I think she was originally trying to be a Country Western singer. I guess she was "too pure to be a beehived, hairs-sprayed, twangy CW singer". Probably for the best. Look how far she came. She's still a favorite of mine.

  • Can't figure out why it's in black and white. I thought by 1971 everything everywhere had gone to color. I guess I was wrong.

  • @TuberOnTheLoose - The clip's from Australia; we didn't officially get colour until 1975...

  • @TuberOnTheLoose I grew up in South Africa and we didn't have television until 1976. Didn't stop us from sending this song straight to Number One in the charts!

  • @TuberOnTheLoose

Not in Australia I guess lol

  • @TuberOnTheLoose First color TV test transmission in Australia was in June 1967 - ATV-0 live broadcast of a Horse Racing meeting. 7 Network Australia did in-house test broadcasts in 1968. Australian Govt. announced color broadcasts would officially begin in 1971 but pushed it back. More test broadcasts were conducted from mid 1974. Color TV broadcasting officially went live on Mar 1st 1975 using PAL std. Australia was late to the party but the uptake of color TV was rapid.

  • She is beautiful......great voice too.

  • Ganz wenige Dinge haben in dieser Welt bestand - Dylans Grösse fasziniert mich immer wieder! Diese Version ist besonders bezaubernd.

  • If I may re-quote Mary Poppins, Olivia is perfect in every way.

  • sandyyyy

  • A Star is born...

  • just gorgeous. love her. voice of an angel.

  • Sure due, this is from Dylan 100%

  • I remember this song well...I loved it! I thought Olivia Newton-John was a babe and bought the album. Olivia was introducing Juditih Durham of the Seekers. The big song in the 60's was Another You. Judith had such a great voice. I guess the Aussies really produced some great talent down under. Kudoes to the Aussie group the New Beats with Friday on my Mind.

  • かわいい~~~~

  • this woman so beautiful

  • This version is clearly inspired by Harrison's version, though.

  • Adorable

  • I like this version LOTS!!

  • Ein absolut herrliches Lied. Es gehört zu den Liedern warum ich Zimmermann so bewundere und nahezu unendlich verehre. Dieses Mädchen macht eine großartige Show und ist einfach nur "Wild". Großartig - lohnt!

  • It was not so long time ago when a singer like Olivia Newton John could just be nice and polite and sing very good! But now, they want to look (almost all artists) brutal and ill-bred. Well, the times the are a-changing.

    Olivia she's great!

  • DOES ANYONE REALIZE THIS IS A GEORGE HARRISON SONG FROM THE ALBUM "ALL THINGS MUST PASS"???????????????????

  • @ironcitydevildog - do YOU realize that the song was written by Bob Dylan, and that George Harrison only did a cover version of it?

  • @Conniptions886 Didn't know that but it doesn't suprise me since George and Bob were very good friends!!!

  • @Conniptions886 - i knew that ... *g

  • @Conniptions886 Actually Dylan give it to George.

  • @Conniptions886 Did you know it was a piece from the Romantic period originally and Bob Dylan only wrote the lyrics to it

  • @Conniptions886 Well done, people is very ignorant.

  • @ironcitydevildog Incorrect! It was Bob Dylan who wrote it but George harrison covered it in his "All Things Must Pass" album. I heard Olivia's version when I was in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1971. Richie Havens does an another excellent cover of it.

  • @ironcitydevildog

haha sorry bro but no i realize this is a bob dylan song

  • @ironcitydevildog ... actually it was first a Bob Dylan song - released one month prior to George's version

  • love her dancing! ^^

  • It always sucks when singers lip sync. But we all know she sings perfectly live.

  • A lot of people do not realize that once this song was sung publically, Olivia became super famous, skyrocketing her to pop stardom. Her version of this song is genius. Moreover, the lyrics are pop, simplification genius by Bob Dyan. Long live pop music, regardless of country!

  • Note of Historical Interest:

In the 60s Dylan had taken a memory course (memory sound) with a very gifted and talented private and public performer. He excelled. "If Not For You" was a part

of that memory sound course. Thank God, he remembered.

  • Has there ever been a more beautiful face and smile?

  • Just a Note: Jamieson

"1965" Australian TV Performance of "If Not for You". Olivia was 18 years of age at the time.

  • @hedwegg - The performance is from 1971; and Olivia did NOT record the song in 1965...

  • Olivia is so innocent in her youth. You can see that certain sparkle in her eyes. Wow, I want to be young again! For those of you who are in just starting out in the world, go after your dreams and never look back.

  • Just think; 10 years later, she would want to get PHYSICAL with someone. she's so innocent in this. Nice job, Olivia!

  • OMG she is beautiful!! I had a crush then, still do. Luv ya Livvy.

  • This song was originally done by Bob Dylan

  • I dated a girl back in the late 70's who was her ex-husband's girlfriend.....Matt Latanzi was from Oregon.

  • Thats not the original sound from this clip... do you not have it??

  • @Greatstuff365 - Unless the station itself redubbed the music portion at some point, it's the original sound, as broadcast on Australian TV in 1971...

  • @Conniptions886 Your prob right.. she's miming to the record.. Still great clip tho..

  • i wanna meet her

  • Love This!!!!!!!! So glad you posted. Thanks!!

  • I absolutely love this gal then and now.

  • =P

  • Like? How about LOVE? Thank for posting this, this is fantastic!

  • What a great video of ONJ!! I remember when this came out. I don't know if that's a slide guitar, but whatever that sound is, it certainly made that song extremely appealing! Thanks for sharing the wonderful video!

  • She's so natural, sorta shy, fun loving, cute dancer. I'd love to get horizontal with her...

  • She was so adoreable here! No wonder she made it big!

  • Wow! She seems a bit awkward and self-conscious, but that "X-factor" is definitely there.

    What a gem! Truly adorable.

  • who needs a microphone or a band??? well you don't if you're Olivia Newton John!!!

  • This is a Bob Dylan song, by the way.

  • @OnThisVerySpot I wondder if BOB has ever seen this...I never did till just now...

  • What I found interesting & true was how she was introduced as the first overseas artist in this Australian program! She is English being born, but she was brought up for many formidable years in Australia and had perfomed in many thing as a very young teenager there. Before fleeing the nest and going back to England.Though in the late 90's she did go back to Australia for a while and became a duel citizen of Australia. She now lives in the USA some say because of a dislike there of her daughter.

  • if i seen her dancing from across the room, i would have been on it.

  • On stage with no props, band, or anything else, just her voice and looks, her stage presence is without rival. She was so adorable at this stage of her life. Her gifts of beauty and voice are truly from Heaven. Live long and prosper Olivia.

  • And stars today come out in next to nothing yet Olivia is more beautiful than all of them in this smock like dress. I love it.

  • this song made me her fan when i first listening to it back in 1991.

  • This is a great video...so fun to see ONJ in 1971, but what about the part with Judith Durham? Could you upload that as well, please?

  • sugary sweet and oh so neat.

  • I think Olivia looks great at every stage in her life!!!!!

  • amazing song! ONJ at her best! thanks for posting

  • It was during this era (Pre Grease days) that I think ONJ was at her best! She looked totally classy and so beautiful. Her look after Grease made her look the opposite.

  • She is so talented and lovely

  • Hermosa canción del genio George Harrison

  • She is bang. Sorry for the inappropriate but truthful use of language : P

  • She's so cute here!

  • a superstar ...doing her thing.

  • both her dancing AND her dancing face are amazing!!!

  • That Wah Wah at the end is just great!!! You would not expect that on this tune.

  • anyone who can look at our lovely Olivia and not break into a smile, simply is not human LOL

  • Very very bangable here.

  • Her dancing is so cute! :)

  • Yeah the 70s were great musically speaking. There were a lot of young people and they all loved music.

  • I just love her facial expressions. I didn't know she could move when she danced as in her later 70's videos she just stood there and sang. Notice she did more dancing and movement after 1979 videos.

  • Wow! This is 1971 vintage notice the beads, her dress styles back then. She is a real cutie love those big beautiful eyes too.

  • This soo cute..!!!!!!

  • She's such a baby! And now, still a total babe! Just love it, and just love Liv. :)

  • Only reminds me why I've had such a mad crush on ONJ for the past (gasp!) 40 years. Brilliant vid! Thanks so much for posting!

  • Wow wee!

  • Superb why is there nothing like it today?

  • Olivia Neutron Bomb!!!

  • so innocent compared to singers today. those were happy sweet times in the early 70s.

  • So beautiful, pretty...love her expressions

  • I'm really diggin on this track. So much better than a lot of the crap we have to listen to today. Bravo.

  • wow she wore that key necklace over many many years :)

  • WOW at 1:23 mark, very cute :)

  • @OfficialRobbieMason wish I had that key...

  • Man I always forgot how gorgeous she was and still is..Man, this whole look is so '71.flowered print dress, boots, shag 'do, even some of the dance moves..She's doing a version of the "Shing A Ling", and has a little of what Tom Jones used to do and it fits her......She sure has a beautiful smile..Great stuff..Thanks for posting..

  • Awkward movements and lipsynching. Good song or course.

  • I love you as well Olivia! you are BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • @Arkady63 She still is really pretty for 61 still has the flowing blonde hair. I want to say she's always taken good care of her body(diet, exercise, never any hard stuff to abuse her body, natural clean living) You can't say that about too many rock stars. And still graceful and sweet as back then. Time has been kind to her, she's been kind to us over time! We love you Olivia!

  • Adorable.

  • such a beautiful woman love she is smiling and dancing

  • @coolkeith77 She can make me smile with her own smile! She was a beauty here, still is. I liked Olivia through everything. She's had more hits than people imagined and she's still very active in film, don't know much about discograph but she's still going strong!

  • i love the slide guitar

  • @Arkady63 I met her a couple of years ago, advancing age has not hurt her very much.

  • Hi, thanks for uploading this video. You wouldn't happen to know where it may be possible to find Judith Durham's performance on this show, proceeding Olivia's, would you? Thank you once again, Adam.

  • I agree, she is one awesome sheila.

  • i knew i should of never broke up with her back then

  • Gosh.Pure heaven. Those big gorgeous eyes could melt the heart of the abominal snowman.Olivia, you should have married me? Soooo.sweet!

  • Pure Sweetness!! I used to try to sing like her!!

  • she is incredibly gorgeous. she was my first crush. great voice, angelic face, and a sweet person

  • WOW-like awesome, loved this song from the summer of '71. Love to see old vintage taping of these fantastic artists performing their blockbuster hits!!!!

  • Saw her in concert twice when she was first starting out. Unbelievable!

  • Great rare TV archive appearance. Olivia is fantastic.

  • What a sweetheart. Had a crush on her in the 70's...

  • I would of loved to dance with her ! She rocks and always will ! Your the greatest Olivia !!!!!!!!

  • What a hottie !

  • Ohh,come back.

    Great memories from the past.

  • What a dear sweet lady. The 60's / 70's what a great time to live. Thanks for posting.

  • I was in my early 20's when she was most popular. I loved her voice and also thought her very beautiful as well !

  • The vocals are so unique in the sense they were so captivating and country style sugary softness that made every country star take a second look who this singer was back in 1973,well , she proved them all you could be from abroad and still be country flavored like she was,on her way to great fame here she was.she had what all up and coming singers wanted to have the golden touch midas at ones early career start.

  • Voice of an angel ! Hit the top 40 charts on 7-17-71. Reached # 25 (should have gone higher ) and stayed in top 40 for 10 weeks . Song was actually written by Bob Dylan. #1 adult contemporary hit for 3 weeks.

  • Very soothing on the ears.

    And eyes!

    Happy Birthday Olivia...wherever you are.

  • Bob Dylan song, but I think her voice and looks are quite a bit better............My first love.......Maybe except for Paula R...........Thanks Mike C.

  • Ah the seventies....great memories...

  • TRUE BLUE AUSSIE BABE !!!!

  • ahhhhhh. my favorite Olivia song.... I love it!

  • 38 years ago. Amazing. Most of you weren't even alive when she did this. And I was buying my first 8 track recorder, so I could record off "FM" radio.

    Hmmm.

  • Beautiful....what a lovely lady...excellent.

  • oh my god ...

  • Australia didn't have colour television in 1971? I wont talk... we South Africans didn't even have television! Nevertheless, we sent this beautiful song straight to #1, where it toppled Alan Garrity's "Put Your Hand In The Hand".

  • She sure looks cute back then singing an old song from 1971.

  • Shes doing a dance called The Bugaloo that was popular back then.

  • mimed but gorgeous

  • I forgot to ad, that's Toni Lamond, Helen Reddy's sister doing the introduction.

  • Tremendous!!

  • You are like God to me right now!! I've been waiting for ages to see this clip in full! Do you happen to have the Banks of the Ohio performance by any chance? Again, thanks so much for the rare clips!!
