The Melkite Catholic church I attend is more Greek Orthodox than this one. Get rid of the organ and return to Greek Byzantine tones, not operatic or Russian.
These are G O choir members from So.Cal I recognize some of them. Orthodoxy has always incorporated expressions of the people's indigenous cultures into the Church to make it their own. We do not need to make people become Russian or Greek so that they can become Orthodox - that is a sin, and since we live in the West then so should our music change. I like polyphonic mixed choirs much better than Byzantine chant. May God Bless all of my Orthodox brothers and sisters in Christ!
@livatha IMHO: the liturgical worship of the church isn't "Greek" or "Russian." The fathers never recognized such ethnic boundaries. Liturgical chant, akin to iconography , isn't a mere "cultural expression" but was given by the fathers to the church as a whole. Indigenization can only happen within the context of Holy Tradition. Monophonic chant in 8 tones is part of the very essence of Orthodox Sacred Music, and is present in ALL orthodox churches, irrespective of ethnic moorings.
My apologies. I have done my homework and found out it is the Choir of Loyola singing the day the University granted a Honoris Causa Doctor degree to the Archbishop Demetrios. Axios!
Sorry about my last coment. It is indeed a non orthodox but honest choir singing well a hard singing doxology.
praise him with timbrel and chorus, praise with resounding symbols. instruments are only used to give the Eson, this a beautiful rendition of the Doxologia Megali. And if the archbishop is in attendance, im sure he is enjoying it as well =]
Wow! They used a real pipe organ and not one of those electric organs!
Why Geneva gowns?!!? We aren't presbyterians! My church choir wears that ridiculous stuff too!
Anyway, that's a nice setting for the Great Doxology. I'd like to hear it in my church with the acoustics we have. I like anything that takes a long time to chant. I heard one setting that takes 13 minutes to chant!
This is not Orthodox. :/

This is not one of the better vocalizations of the Great Doxology.

@AgiosGiorgios Why not attend an original Orthodox Church? Try searching the Romanian Church. God bless brother!

How about chanting the doxology according to the anastasimatarion instead of these arrangements...
