I would say he took off at too slow speed and climbed too steep and probably a tail heavy condition too. The plane did not seem to want to stay level and gain speed even after he put the nose down. The tail dropped once or twice more, then it stalled.
Flaps are very fun to use but remember, if the plane is going too slow, the ailerons do not work. To fly these big heavy warbirds requires patience by letting the plane fly and not over flying the plane. Also, big warbirds with flaps need to be flown with rudder too. Good luck next time.
Your analysis doesn't hold up--watching the video, but stopping it often, once can see the tail does a major sag downward while the gear is still down. It's not the gear. Looks like imbalance, possibly combined with an elevator defect. Were there two elevator servos? Were they in the tail? Or up front, with a long pushrod? I'd look for lack of rigidity in that pushrod.
@dandrew81 :( agree, but lesson learned on the gear up /flaps mix, expensive lesson mind you, model flight, if your in to it, is like early aviation, full of crashes and really good fun
The standard.......Radio Glitch.....my ass, You ran out of airspeed and experience at the same time. Poor airplane.

Flaps for landing. It was way tail heavy too. Waste.

put some lead in the nose or take some outta the tail!! that was not the flaps fault, u need to balance your airplane for it to fly correctly!!

that made me laugh :)

Sorry it looks like tail heavy.

Don't use flaps for take off. Use better runway and let it build up speed prior to pulling up.
