Yes, this concert was shortly after his motorcycle accident. He broke his hands during that accident and was told he would never be able to play again. If you notice early in the concert, he walks to the apron of the stage and makes a motion like revving a motorcycle and then shows his hands to the audience, front and back, as if to say, "They're in one piece."

I saw him perform "The Stranger" from his concert tours, 1977-1982. Best performace of the song was when he opened with it, Berkely Greel Theatre, 1978. Just him, the piano, his whistle which was in it's prime and the single spot light on him. Awesome. That whistle , and, the key that the song was originally written in, makes it tough to sing, AND whistle. that high E is a bitch!

To see him perform The Stranger nowadays, you have to see him in Japan. It's the only place he plays it anymore.

Figures... it seems to be his most popular song in Japan. I don't get why he plays it over there, but when he plays here, he'll play some of the singles from that album and, sometimes Vienna. The Stranger is easily the best song on the album and easily one of the best songs he ever wrote. He should play it everywhere.
