  • Yes, this concert was shortly after his motorcycle accident. He broke his hands during that accident and was told he would never be able to play again. If you notice early in the concert, he walks to the apron of the stage and makes a motion like revving a motorcycle and then shows his hands to the audience, front and back, as if to say, "They're in one piece."

  • im almost positive billy is playing with a broken thumb in this concert...he will always be a great pianist, him and elton john by far top 2

  • @TheBeatlesJPGR53 he does shake his left hand in pain a lot during this gig. There's no one to top Billy and Elton on the piano, but I'm coming round to thinking Billy's a better player

  • His band look like they have had more fun then he does.

  • lol when he kicks at the audience.

  • his new band just isn't up to par. it's no ones fault, that is just the way it is. actually, it's billy's fault. he kicked the original guys out of the band. still love the older tunes as the original members which are displayed in this clip.

  • This Song-I heard-It haunted the shit out of me-Years later I am a Cop--I actually get Mr Joel to sign something (FOR ME)& I told him that story----1 Great Person he is----He said he songs are his story of his life-The Good The Bad.

  • 85 or 82?

  • I saw him perform "The Stranger" from his concert tours, 1977-1982. Best performace of the song was when he opened with it, Berkely Greel Theatre, 1978. Just him, the piano, his whistle which was in it's prime and the single spot light on him. Awesome. That whistle , and, the key that the song was originally written in, makes it tough to sing, AND whistle. that high E is a bitch!

  • The way he plays the piano in this is awesome. Love this song, go sick on the triangle.

  • best live performance of that song

  • i love watching him perform The stranger, he gets so into it! he didn't play it wen i saw him! :(

  • To see him perform The Stranger nowadays, you have to see him in Japan. It's the only place he plays it anymore.

  • Honda was using it for one of their TV commercials in Japan

  • Figures... it seems to be his most popular song in Japan. I don't get why he plays it over there, but when he plays here, he'll play some of the singles from that album and, sometimes Vienna. The Stranger is easily the best song on the album and easily one of the best songs he ever wrote. He should play it everywhere.

  • Heh...homeboy's rockin' out on that triangle...Liberty DeVito is an incredible drummer! But I think something happened during the outro, there...drop a stick maybe? Did you guys see Billy nod towards that area like "you ok, bro?" Whatever the case, he covered it perfectly.

  • It's sad that him and Billy had a falling out and then he left

  • wow thank you for posting this up! good video. i'm a billy joel fan too!

  • is this 1985?? that's wrong this is Long Island 29/12/1982

  • Good video, I love piano.. i just learned. this is a nice sounding song, and i like the whistle at the first part, and then the up beat near the first part of the movie.. this is a good song..

  • Thank you! I've want to see this concert again from I was 16!

  • Hmm, this was a nice song. Great video too.

  • Marvellous & Remarkable Classical Music..*_*

  • I actually like it! It's very upbeat and true. Love the whistling in the begining.

    Great song!

  • Sorry. Disregard that question.

  • What concert was this? I know I've seen him play Prelude / Angry Young Man here. And I think it was in 83'. If you could tell me, you'd superior to everyone. (Thanks for the vid by the way)

  • Live From Long Island, you can get it on VHS.

  • shame it's never been put onto DVD.

as much as i like the tokyo and giants stadium gigs.

the long island gig is my favourite.

  • I own it on DVD...search for it online, look hard enough, you'll find it. "Billy Joel: Live From Long Island"

  • He belongs at the Nassau Colosseum, plain and simple. Enough with this Garden bullshit.

  • @JSwanKilowJ its Live from Long Island (he is playing at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, in Uniondale, home of the New York Islanders NHL team) just like the other person said, and its 1982
