At first, I was thinking the cat didn't like what you were doing, but as I watched I realised you were scritching his/her funny spot, on the spine above the tail. Not all cats make that crazy-delightful sound when you do that, but most of them do seem to react to it!

Badzeep is correct--We used to call that the cats 'horny spot'...ALL cats react when you scratch and rub that area on their lower back. It's almost like it tickles them..but all cats do respond similarly in that area.

I used to have a cat who'd make this noise when he was given fish.

He was an awesome cat, lived to be 18 or 19 years old.

He was really intelligent, he never approached anyone while outside and he knew how to open doors. One day he visited each of the family while we were doing work in the yard. He'd let us pet him one by one. That was the last day we saw him. We think he said goodbye to us in that way, before he went out into the forest to die on one last adventure.
