@TheRecommended I totally didn't realize it was him when I first listened, w/o watching. lol PB is great, sounds exactly the same now as in the 70's. Amazing.
What a fantastic voice. He has an original type sound and I love it. I like the traditional sounding songs best. The highly polished are nice, but don't sound authentic to me. This is a wonderful posting. Thank you.
I tried to do the lyrics, not sure. It's a bit different than other versions. From Derry quay we sailed away On the 23rd of May We were boarded by a pleasant crew Ohhh! Bound for Americay Fresh water there we brought on board Five thousand gallons or more In case we'd run short going to New York Far away from the Shamrock shore (chorus in original, but not this version)
my great gradfather McCardle came to america just like in this song. I dont really know what part of ireland. anyway thank-you i love songs that tell a story.....peacethanks again for the video
Thanks for the correction on my earlier comment. I was only guessing when I said that I thought it was recorded in Belfast. I only had a small bit of this concert on tape so wasn't sure.
This was recorded at an Irish Gala Concert, Kennedy Centre, Washington; May 13, 2000 for the Kennedy charity Foundation. Steve Earle done a duet with Emmy Lou Harris, and a great version of his "Galway Girl". Elvis Costello also appeared. Liam also sang just before this song with a Bodhran a brilliant version of Sí do Mhamóí. No too sure of the year late ninetees I think!

Nobody sings this song like Liam O Maonlai.
He is so talented. Love to hear him sing in the gaelic.

So fare thee well, sweet Lisa dear
And likewise to Derry town
And twice farewell to my comrades boys
Who dwell on that sainted ground
If fortune ‘er should favour me
And I do have money in store
I'll come back and I’ll wed the fair lassie I left

Well we safely sailed to the other side
In three and twenty days
We were taken as passengers by a man
And led round in six different ways
We each of us had a parting glas
In case that we never meet more
And we drank a health to old Ireland
And Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore
EZEEKEEL 1 year ago
We sailed three days, we were all seasick
Not a man on board was free
We were all confined unto our bunks
And no one to pity poor me
No mother dear, no father kind
To hold up me head went to sore
Which made me think more of the lassie I left
On Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore

When and where was this recorded??
whelo86 1 year ago
@whelo86 I stand to be corrected on this but I think it was in the early nineties at a concert in Belfast. 2 of my other videos
Ricky Scaggs Liam O Maonlai Donal Lunny & Nollaig Casey and
Carlos Nuñez, Nollaig Casy, Sharon Shannon & Donal Lunny
were from the same concert.
