I know we can't compare players from different eras, not just because of the level of play back in those times as compared to today, but also the lifestyle. Back then, kids didn't grow up learning dribble moves and post moves off the computer. They learnt by getting out there, trying new ideas, and perfecting those ideas to the point of perfection, like the no-look pass, or the sky hook. Can't we just accept these greats for who they are? Legends?

I respect Cousy, but I don't think he would be an all-star if he played in the 90s up to today. He was good at hook shots with both hands and he was a smart ball player, but he lacked athleticism and his left hand dribble looked weak. Small guards like Isiah Thomas, Iverson, and Tim Hardaway with speed and better dribbling skills would likely tear him up.

With his head down like that, there's no way he could dribble the length of the court with his left hand in a game because he wouldn't be able to see where he was going or who to pass to.

And, today's players are stronger and faster due to better science, nutrition and training methods, developing more skill in less time.

I disagree. Many of those old guys were uncoordinated compared with today's players. And, they competed against a much smaller talent pool. The US population in '58-'59, Bill Russel's 3rd year, was about half of what it is today. And there were no international players.

in this video, u can clearly see that Cousy had absolutely no "jump" shot, probably couldn't dunk and he could barely dribble with his left hand (2min mark). I doubt he would even start today. CP and Rose would embarrass him.

I think the reason why he is an all-time great is because he shaped the PG position into flashiness and coolness (if that's even a word). You look at the no-look passes and flashy passes he did, and you can compare him to our modern players. I didn't watch Blue Chips but I'll watch it.

I've heard he has disproportionately large hands and long ass arms for his height which are a definite plus. But he unfortunately has a very long, neck/sloping shoulders, so his standing reach wouldn't be as high as you might think.

Guys today train from the time they're 10 years old to be bigger, faster, and stronger than the competition. Look at MJ at the beginning of his career compared to the end (1998). His body totally transforms because of the weight training. Great players are great players, regardless of era. Cousy, Mikan, Russell, Wilt, they'd all adapt to today's game.
