  • hey having a look into it.... and aparently hyperthreading is disliked by games.... can some one enlighten me................................ im having random FPS drops on BF3 i know its buggy and happens anyway but id like to know if i turned it off would it help? specs are : I7 at 3.00ghz 3 gb ram. 480 gtx 1.5gb ram asus rampage extreme 2 motherboard.....

  • Max temp for I7 is 100c intel recomends staying below 88c if you want your CPU to last a few years.

  • @FunnyVideoCollector - 100C would kill it in a short time, below 82C for 24/7 use is a must.

  • I usually encode video or 3D render, but under full load my i7 hits around 95-100c. Would it be worth it to disable HT?

  • @AlTheUnderdog no not at all. Those temps are cold. Overclock some more! 200c is the max tho so i would stop at around 180c .

  • @Braaienator5000 Not a bad idea! Then I could also save power by using the inside of my computer as a microwave

  • @AlTheUnderdog - Ok, if you listened to Braaienator5000 your CPU is dead by now but if you didn't, then 95-100C is way too hot, disabling HT would definately help a lot.

  • @AlTheUnderdog lol do something about your cooling/case, when it gets too hot your performance goes down too. If you OC'd it you should probably turn it down a bit and keep voltages as low as possible. Turning off HT would be the last thing you want to do especially if you use it for highly threaded applications such as rendering/encoding video.

  • WOW, with that 8c increase temp with HT i rather turn it off and overclock the physical ones

  • @johnchen0213 he already overclocked it by alot, and it was at 100% so yea.. HT is better.

  • Are you booting from a broken raid 0 array???

  • @random1337default - No, it just randomly had some errors sometimes...

  • The magic of hyper-threading is when the threads aren't in use the CPU load balances the whole core. So you'll only get higher temps when you are using all those threads. Its pointless to turn it off, you should just keep it on so when you do need it its available without a restart, having it on posses no disadvantages, it will load balance your cores and temps will be the same unless you're processing more.

  • Nice i7 chip. Too bad its running windows. waste of a perfectly good chip.

  • why are you running vista?

  • @HenkSpankK - I am not running Vista.

  • @arvutihull seems pretty vista to me. anyways is it just a vista theme? if so, why would you do that?

  • @HenkSpankK - In this video it may have been Vista but I am not using Vista at the moment, I'm using Windows 7 now. I'm using Win 7 now because it is a bit faster, I liked the looks of Vista more though, also needed WIn 7 for DX11.

  • @arvutihull okay, yeah I liked the vista look better 2. the windows 7 logon screen is also less nice in my opinion

  • it's recomanded for i7 950 4.0 Ghz (OC) and HT on? But i usually original cooler intel plese tell me how's the best OC or HT for me and my cooler?

  • @gogo2144 - With original Intel cooler it isn't recommended to have your CPU overclocked to 4GHz.

  • @gogo2144 if you have stock cooler put HT off, it will reduce cpu heat by alot. I got my 860 running at 4.0ghz

on stock cooler but with HT off , or else the temps go 70 80 + with HT on

  • hyper threading was a very smart yet simple idea. all they did was put an extra set of decoding and fetching units on each core and while the core is not being used by one decode/fetch unit it is used by the other unit. in reality the actual processing components of a cpu are only used about 30% so we could actually have a single or dual core with multiple(say 4) fetch/decode units per core and just have the core actually running instead of using precious power and just sit there.

  • i just turned HT on with my i7 860 (4.0ghz) (1.35) and when i saw that it was hitting 78c i immedietly turned my system off lol!

  • @GamerX7800X - 78C is fine, everything below 80C is good...

  • @arvutihull Plus it was only like, 10 seconds when it already hit 78 so maybe after minutes it could have been 80+

  • wow i must say that bios takes long time to boot

  • @harvard1932 - If you want to know why it is so loud and why it has to be so loud check my channel's FAQ in my channel description.

  • Crappy! my amd 1055t half the price none of this fancy HT crap gets 22546 in cinebench and running at 3.75ghz! Suck that intel you overpriced faggots!

  • 4threads and 4 core(no HT) are the same?????

  • @luimp3 - No.

  • @luimp3 without trying to get too technical, a program could contain several threads, even if your processor doesn't have multiple cores.

Ideally you could have a real core for thread... but in reality you will always consume more threads than cores (more computing power means you will leave more applications running in your computer, hence more threads and processes consuming time in each core).

  • 4 threads and 4 core are the same?????

  • @luimp3 - No.

  • I don't know how you can stand how long your motherboard takes to start loading windows, also you should disable some startup programs in msconfig.

  • @Macabre215 - I'm a calm person and I'm rarely in a hurry, so I can wait until my PC boots up.

  • u got a high temp??

  • @ameerxx12 - Very slightly faster than Vista.

  • @ameerxx12 - Yes, I'm using Windows 7 now, this video is 1 year old.

  • 5 seconds = 10 degrees more temperature....

I dont mind about that as I have my system watercooled :)

    thx for the video m8!

  • how to check the tempreature, i dont think there was such an option in older intel processors

  • Yeah i do have a question, What does the Hyperthread do in Games like Resident Evil 5 or Metro 2033? please dont test crysis. its not good for multi cpu support.

  • @SynodCenturion - I take it as a request and will make a video about RE5, subscribe if you want to see it.

  • @arvutihull

Yeah sure.... that would be awesome... Can u run the Intel 920 at stock speeds? instead at those insane settings? cause i think at those high speeds... I wont see a major difference when HT disabled or enabled...

    anyway..u got urselve a new subscriber :)

  • @SynodCenturion - Yes, will do. Thanks!

  • arvu have you even considered liquid cooling?

  • @chevezez - Yes I have.

  • How do you disable HT on Intel COre i7 720QM? I cant find it in the BIOS menu..

  • I use an AlienWare comptuer for windows 7 and to run my games such as Arma 2 i need to disable HyperThreading, is it really better to have HT off then it is to have it on?

  • @ArmyRanger871 - With ArmA 2 yes it's better to have it off.

  • @arvutihull How do I turn Hyper Threading off. Is that in the Bios?

  • @xBloodXGusherx - Yes.

  • nothing personal but i dont like any i7 processors... :S they havent proved them selfs to be money well spent such like AMD Phenom II 965BE

  • @kimi625

i7 is still better than AMD though.

  • @kimi625

the beat the shit out of amd for performance. PERIOD. the only reason ever to buy a AMD is if you are on a EXTREMLY EXTREMLY small budget.

  • @sausagenmuff its really hard for any company to compete with intel at this time. I bet they will take the humanity into the robotics.

  • The thing is a lawn mower. Who could be productive with that noise? :(

  • Check my channel for FAQ's.

  • @arvutihull No no I know /why/ it's loud. It's just that I wouldn't be able to be productive with it. I have to assume this isn't your workstation, but only your... shall we call it "playstation"? :)

  • My fans are so loud only when benchmarking, I don't run Cinebench all the time =)

  • @arvutihull Oh alright. :) Thank goodness. Are they as loud when you are gaming as well?

  • When I'm playing and not recording they're not loud, when I'm recording and running high OC they're louder but not as loud as in this video.

  • @arvutihull Neato!

  • My dream is game optimised for all 4core + 4 thread..

  • Battlefield BC2 can pretty much support 8 threads. In 32 player MP maps it's using at least 6 threads and runs better with HT enabled.

  • hyperthreading is extreamly over rated. its only usful if your doing heavy editing and stuff. when it comes to gaming it CAPS the whole system. i told some 1 on youtube to turn off ht "playing crysis" and they had a 15-20 fps jump.

  • 5 sec difference not that much but its still better

i got 44 seconds on rendering that image @4.04 GHz Core i5

cant wait till i can afford a Core i7 build

  • @RoCRoikar i5 750?

  • @LikeAVideo yea if he over clocked his to 4 GHz that would pwn my core i5

  • An i7 with the same speed will run faster due to the cache/instruction sets

  • @RoCRoikar

5 seconds is a HUGE difference HUGE.

imagein you have a render that is goign to take 32 hours to complete, it would knock 5 HOURS of your render time.

  • how do i turn hyper threading on on my x7900

    cpu ?

  • doesn have HT

  • nice vid

  • Thanks!

  • Nice video..

I wanted to see the boot time of the system with core i7 Processor. I was planing to buy one just because i was fed up with the boot time i was getting with core 2 due 3.0 GHZ processor. Any way i didnt see much difference so i am not gona spent 1 grand just for a little difference.

But the I7 is very powerfull in aplications. I think boot time lag is one of microsoft's crapy window problem..

Any way Thank you so much for uploading nice video.

    keep the good work up..

  • If you want to improve boot them then get an SSD drive, that's by far the best upgrade you can do in that regard, or stop installing so much stuff on your comp :P

  • I don't know about buying the core I7, for me the only thing that really made it work well is the fact that the motherboards out there were specially made for it, which we don't see with Amd, but I don't know. Is the difference between Phenom X4 965 and the core i7 920 visible, do we actually get to see the difference, or only doing benchmarks, anyway, have a good one !

  • There isn't much difference between Phenom 2 X4 965 and Core i7 920 in games, unless you're using a very high-end GPU setup.

  • Okay, fair enough, but much of my pc usage goes on to watch movie, really heavy 1080 HD, movies, my current dual core athlonxp does a great job, but I see a lot of draw back when I try to work with photoshop, do you think It's worth buying the core i7 920, or for most of my uses it will be just well to go for the phenom II X4 965 ? Hey, thanks for the reply, man, appreciate you taking the time to answer me back ! Have a good one !

  • For photoshop definately i7 920 is faster, only place where there's basically no difference between Phenom 2's and Core i7's is gaming, everywhere else Core i7 is faster.

  • When is the i9 coming out?

  • Not sure yet... somewhere later this year probably.

  • great vid whats up with the error on one of your drives?

  • Thanks, it's been showing this error for 3 months now... saying that one drive in Raid0 is going to fail, but nothing has happened yet. I did a backup of all my important data just in case...

  • a thread is like having extra core?

  • Not exactly, a core with HT technology has two threads.

  • Nice video, although your computer takes a hell of a time to boot.

  • thanks for the vid, I found this info very useful

  • So, in other words, the i5 will be a better deal than an i7?

Higher clocks and smaller prices, just no HT

It sounds like C2 Duo vs. Quad all over again...

  • Basically yes.

  • how about the i9?

  • i9 will have 6 cores and 12 threads. So it will be in it's own class...

  • (this was one of the fastest replys ever :D 9 seconds ftw) is it socket 1366 or something else? and would it be worth to buy it if you already have a core i7?

  • It's going to be a LGA 1366. It's worth it if you're using a lot hard multithreaded applications or if you're into benchmarking, but it won't be worth it if you're just a regular PC user or a gamer.

  • i can't understand what threads are and how i can use them.. help??

  • wow how hot does the CPU get, my amd phenom never gets over 55

  • 79C on full load (30 minutes, 21C room temp, 1.3V). With 16C room temp 68C maximum.

  • mam wtf is that noise

  • My old camcorder.

  • dose you get better overclock performance with HT Desabled.

btw. my Core i7 920 cant use HT anymore.

dont know why. i overclocked it and it automatic desablet HT. whan i set THE HOLE FU**ING BIOS back to default, it stil dosent use HT. and it is set to enable in the bios. ????? WTF. help please??

  • Try updating the BIOS maybe. Or try if it can use HT when running at stock speed.

  • thanks for the help. i am not happy for massing with the bios like that. and i have runned at stock speed. right now i have OC the system evan more and it is faster than stock. hypper thradding (as you tested it) dose not give more preformance than (highest i have seen) 15 %.

i OC the core from 2,8 to 3,0. and dimm rate 1333 to 1750 mhz. thats more than 15 % increes. (the ram)

i tryed 3,2. but i use i bios program called cpu level up. (for noobs like me)

    i have a ASUS rampage 2 exreme.

  • R2E is sweet! Can you enable HT when running at stock speed? I'd suggest you to OC the CPU to at least 3,6GHz with HT on (i'm running it at 3,8GHz for 24/7 myself). Just go to BIOS, set BCLK frequency to 172 and CPU core voltage to 1.3V (with C0 stepping) or 1.25V (with D0 stepping).

  • Depends on what cooler you're using of course... with stock cooler I wouldn't suggest you to overclock anything.

  • i can enable HT in bios. but it dont show up in windows. and i cant set the BCLK to anything. i cant enter the menu to set BCLK.

i basicly cant set the cpu higher than 3,2 ghz.

i get with my overclock 3,2 ghz (cpu) 2000 mhz (ram) 14000 points in cinebench 10. that = 1:02 min (is that higher than good quad cores) i hope

  • If you cant set BCLK manually there's something very wrong. Do you have the latest version of BIOS?

  • no. is it safe to get?? i just bought it.

  • Yes, should be safe. Just make sure that the electricity won't go off when your installing it.

  • whare to install. and how.

btw. when i first strarted the pc there was nothing wront with HT. but still problems with the BCLK.

  • I will say this if I had a machine like that no way I would allow 60 or more processes to be running anyways, of course that is just me and of course how would windows 7 response.

  • Turn express gate off man, waiste of boot time, i got a p6t aswell, you can turn off alot of unnecesairy boot stuff!

  • thanx alot, ,

  • you should right click on the task bar then click task manager, it's abit easier

also nice vid, i was wonder how much HT did

  • Great Video!

    Thanks For The Upload!

    Keep Them Coming!

    Really Useful! Appreciate It!

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks for the upload mate :)

  • No problem!

  • you may actually wanna use resource manager instead cuz taskmanager usually eats up 5% cpu load.

  • I just needed it to show that my CPU is at full load both times with HT on and off. I had it open both times so results are comparable, I didn't make this video to show how good scores my CPU can get.

  • your cpu is d0 o c0 step??

  • C0 of course, D0 wouldn't give so high temps even with stock cooler.

  • Hello, would like to ask u something abt the gtx285, on the tigerdirectblog channel they have the video on xfx gtx285 and they did some benchmark and and i wonder if they have AA on or not?O.O cus i feel uneasy abt my rig.. lols=.=

  • If they have AA on they would say that I think.

  • ok ermm thx for the info.

  • your bios is loading too slowly, about 50 seconds, why?

And why you don't use vista's aero interface?

  • BIOS isn't loading slowly, my Raid0 setup gives me errors (says that one drive is failing) and slows entering BIOS down.

  • since i'll get an sli mobo with it, I think I'll get a gtx 260, and possibly add another/ get a new gpu once it starts to show its age. I think I'll also get a q8400 - might OC it. Will this be pretty future proff? I don't wanna upgrade for another few years. As long as it plays all games that I like on high, I'll be happy :D

I've never had a gaming PC

  • woow!!

    awesome PC!!

  • Thank you!

  • Damn why didn't HT make that big a difference in Pentium 4's lol

  • should I get a ATI 4870 1gb instead of the gtx 260 core 192? it's also £3 cheaper, lol

oh, and I might be able to get the q9550 @2.8 ghz, is that better?

  • Yes 4870 1GB edition would be faster than GTX 260 Core 192. And Q9550 is definately better than Q8400.

  • what is TJ MAX,minimum and maximum? i mean what to they mean? isit the min and max temp of the cpu?

  • TJ max shows the distance to 100C which is an emergency shutdown temp for Core i7 (very dangerous).

  • ?O.O so wad temp is going to be stable if i were to oc the i7 920?O.o

  • Temps should stay below 80C if you want to be safe (full load).

  • oic okie thx!^.^

  • actually 80c is a standard for graphics card now, and even so that applies to ati only, you may wanna get a better cooler, 70c will kill ur cpu really quick, it should stay under 50 at all times.

  • i mean 60, sorry.

  • For Core i7 80C is completely fine when running the CPU at full load. In normal applications (up to 60% CPU usage) it should stay below 60C or 55C.

  • Core 216 costs more also but definately performs better.

  • Wow I did not HT made that big of a difference in performance.

  • great video. I'm gonna get a new PC soon. Is this good?

    Intel Core 2 Quad q8400 @ 2.66 ghz (don't want to OC)

    4gb DDR2 RAM

nVidia gtx 260 (192 processing cores)

    will this last a while?

  • Thanks, yes it's good, should handle all the latest games with decent (maximum) settings.
