Buying a small pack of crayons is obviously a bad idea if you want certain colors. The crayons appear to be a casual way to make kids aware of differences between people. And you can say "but kids shouldn't be made aware of these things", but that is crap. Do you just want to hand them their diploma when they turn 18 and say "oh yeah, there are different races and some people hate other people based on this." Self explanatory really, but every new computer comes with a webcam, so go for it.
you confuse me, first your all like: "what is the point in multicultral crayons. They're stupid" then your all like: "it would've been alot easier if we had Multicultral crayons, instead of stupid glitter crayons". Quite frankly, i think you have no idea what you're talking about
Some people will just never understand. But yea, your right. Lets pick apart her sentence structure instead of acknowledging what her whole fricking point was about in the first place. That was sarcasm. i know i have to point that out.
It's all about integration and community cohesion. But then i'm not for the whole integration, multicultural way of things so the crayons suck in my opinion. Kids are easy targets for social engineering and i'm sad this is the agenda more than ever now. Children should not be used as lab rats in my opinion.
TOTALLY WITH YOU! All these shades are available in the box of 64! It's just helps to point out the differences to kids who haven't noticed. These were on my 6 year old's required school list and I was enraged! She doesn't see skin color, why does her school need to point it out (Catholic school, by the way).
Cute! I've never seen these before. I agree with your comment too. I think people are always trying to come up with something new and different to make that almighty buck.
Actually I think it's a fantastic idea! I've often thought since childhood why there wasn't a crayon called skin instead of everyone having to be peach or pink, but that would have brought up the racial skin tone problem. Well, I guess they've solved it now. The only issue I think is calling it something so awfully PC like "multicultural" crayons.
While I agree I also wonder why they're around now and nobody thought of the idea back then when crayons first came around. *shrug* Oh well. I also get the box with sixty-four however I haven't colored in years. LOL love the glitter crayons though.
I could buy the idea that someone wanted to make a link between the variety of crayons being like the variety of a bunch of kids in a classroom. But I agree with you; why right now...all of a sudden?
since crayola technology is advancing beyond our wildest dreams...i'd like to request that they do the same as with the multicultural crayons, but for HAIR SHADES/ Hair tones/ Hair highlight options and really Crayola as a kid i could care less what my human scribble's color was, but i really did need that hair to be just right...and my options were not there,so put that in the "must try harder basket". thanks.
Anyway, i guess it's to show that there are many more shades of color to the ethnic rainbow. its not particularly bad, as you say, strange they didn't have it years ago. have to say one more thing, tho! there as an increase in mixed raced people that having such a pack might come in handy!
im 22 and remember them. i guess it would be boring to stick all those earth tones into one pack of colored crayons (im partials to the blues and greens) so they make a seperate pack so that when kids want to color people and in skin tones, they will see thats what those crayons are for and try them all out and see all the colors are nice? i dont know. whatever. as an artist, i can see myself appreciating all those colors...even if i am partial to the bright vibrant bold colors (which i am)
As a kid, I tended to choose colors for their appeal, not for verisimilitude. Green, silver, purple, gold skin was good enough for me! But then, I never showed much artistic aptitude. Maybe the real artist types were hungry for accurate skin tones, and the marketers saw an opening.
It's less objectionable than an awful lot of marketing in the US, I should think. Though a bit ridiculous.
Weird I've never heard of multicultural crayons, I'm curious what kids think of them. I hated as a kid that if you colored a person black, then it covered up the lines draw for their face and then for the flesh peach tone you looked like you were just that..peach colored. Hmm, I guess it's just strange they'd devote a whole pack to it instead of just including some new colors in a bigger pack. (Say change 24 to 32 or whatnot)
LMAO! I'm 25 and have never seen multicultural crayons. That is insane! I'm a bit speechless. I even went to college in South Georgia and not once did I ever see those. What I want to know is it more of an acceptance of different colored "skin"? Or is it actually a racial seperation thing? I don't know! I guess it would be more PC to maybe sell a pack just called "skin tones".

The only point of multicultural crayons is to make more money by convincing us that we need those things.
