In 1978 the Armenian Nagorno Karabakh Oblast erected a memorial dedicated to the 150 years of Armenian settlement in Karabagh. The settlement of Armenians took place after the adoption of the treaty of turkmenchay in 1828. The Armenians had arrived from a city in Iran, called Maragha, in fact a region of Karabagh was later renamed after Maragha.
