The United States is not a Democracy it is a Representative Republic. In a pure democracy the rights of the minority voter is not upheld in court and human rights violations can run rampant. Without civil rights and other rules founded on human rights the majority can always hurt minorities either racial, economic or philosophical. This is why the Bill of Rights is so vital and why the Constitution limits what the government is allowed to do. So sad we don't obey the US Constitution.
